  1. The consensus from this and another RS site is dirty old oil, yes, it looks a light brown color. I did find that small square black cover this morning. About how much DOT4 do I need to purchase and do I need some type of suction device or just open up the bleeder and drain, add fluid, pump lever etc.? BTW, I was told there is a PDF file for the owners/service manual for the Royal. Does anyone know where I can find that file? I guess my other option is to order a Clymers manual form the dealer. Thanks Les R.
  2. My bike with 17k miles has developed a spongy clutch lever problem and bike won't go into neutral. This has all happened in less than a week. Don't see any leaks and clutch reservoir is full. Any thoughts?
  3. Well, it actually took me about 5-6 hours, but the end result is very nice. I installed a set of new old-stock Road King mufflers on my 98 RSTC2. The hardest part was making my brackets, but I got to use my new wire-feed welder, Ye-ha. Sound is much better than the drilled out stock mufflers. BTW, I didn't drill them out, they were already that way when I bought the bike. They sounded terrible. Getting the new mufflers to slide over the exhaust pipe was a real pain, with lots of grinding and filing, but finally got it. Thanks to all for the information and pics.
  4. Thanks for the information. My bike is a 98 RSTC with dual exhaust. My mufflers look to be welded and I don't think they will just slip off. From what I'm reading, I think that only applies to the new generation (2005-present). It should be a fun project and should be better than the stock pipes that someone before me drilled out. Currently sounds like a V-8 that is misfiring.
  5. I have a 98 RSTC and purchased a set of 98 RK pipes last week, new take-offs and a set of V-twin chrome clamps. I will make some brackets to hold the new pipes in-place. My question is, where do I actually make the cut to remove the stock pipes? Is there a thread or post that shows the place. I don't want to screw this part up. What type of cutting device did you guys use? lesrub@aol.com Thanks Les
  6. I also own a 98 RSTC and I installed a removable backrest made by ProTac for a drivers backrest. It works great. I then ordered another set of brackets and custom made them to fit the passenger area for my son or wife when they ride with me. Send me your email address and I will take a few pics and send to you. Les
