  1. I was hoping more members would have read this article if I posted it someplace else besides the watering hole, but out of all the members we have only 112 have done so,which I find disheartening. I may catch some flak from the moderators and the boss, but I feel very strongly about this as those who know me personally know. 12 year old girl looses battle to cancer...........
  2. ... if you got caught in this situation, how would you have handled it and avoided going down? (happens appx 2:05 in the vid) also, who do you feel is at fault (one or the other...) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoQCLW1jVDo&feature=player_embedded]motorcycle crash part 2 - YouTube[/ame]
  3. BAH HUMBUG!!! Now I feel better. I can wear my Bah Humbug shirt today!!
  4. Plane leaves CAK at 3:05 this afternoon and we'll be in Melbourne Australia Thursday AM. The longest flight will be from LAX to Melbourne (about 15 hours) We have an itinerary set up which will have us doing anything we want to do Bottom line ? really feel bad for Big Tom and his sn-- NOT
  5. My effort to change the clutch fluid has come to a stop. I can not get fluid down the system from the top, nor will it take fluid from the bleed cock upwards, or 'reverse' bleeding. I feel that there is some sort of blockage but I am not a good enough of a mechanic to go from here.....Any thoughts????
  6. It was a great day to get out and ride. Sunshine and temperature in the mid 60's and sure was nice to feel the wind in my toes....
  7. This is not a motorcycle thread but I still need help. My utility trailer has not had working lights for a while and I feel like my luck is running out. I was stopped once about a year ago and given a warning. So, I bought a new wiring kit, put it on just like the old wiring, fired up the van, turned the lights on, turning signals, hazards and walked back and checked each stage as I went. Everything was working great. Boy did I feel smart. Just then my wife came home. She said, " do the lights work now?". I said, "yes". She said "let me see". I thought "uh oh". She said, "step on the brakes" and then she said, the driver's side light goes out when you step on the brake. (OMG, she is a jinx). So the question is - "Why would the left tail light go out when I put on the brake?" Help - I really hate wiring. Iowa Guy
  8. The view from our backyard has a subdivision that has homes that are easily 750k+ (our home value is no where near that). We were looking out back and saw something moving. We kept looking and figured out that it was helicopter that had landed at the homeowners yard. It was a small probably 2 seater. It got me to thinking is that legal? Wonder what the regulations are and wonder how the FAA would feel if they knew about it.
  9. I got this for my wife on Tuseday, it's an '08 Hannigan with 10345 miles. I almost felt like I was gonna be put in handcuffs as I drove away because I feel I stole it from them. Almost 10K below market value.
  10. three days ago my best friends daughter had a grand mal seizure. she suffered from these since she was 8 years old. well she had a bad one and her heart stopped as well. they shocked her and flew her to st cloud MN they cooled her down and placed her in a induced coma ...today they tried to warm her up. and there was no response. her brain and body shut down. she passed away. she was only 34 years old . i am verry sad as i dont have the money to travel up there for the funeral service. but i would like to ask for a few prayers for her family . me and her family where verry close. they even took me in when i was homeless. so you can see how bad i feel. thanks james
  11. I own a 07 RSTD with 21K and I'm trying to compare some of the bikes features with past bikes I have owned. It seems like I do not hear my cooling fan run, or it is real quiet. I also have never seen the temp light on either. On my last bike which was a VTX 1800 you could definitely hear and feel the fan moving air when it would come on. I live in South Florida and the fan would come on any time you spent much time stopped and also when I would pull it into the garage and leave the ignition on.
  12. Hey guys and gals, I find myself with a bum speedometer and am trying to track one down. If anyone knows of anywhere or anyone I might be able to find one from, please let me know. Feel free to PM me if need be. Thanks a bunch!! Jay
  13. When I talked myself into buying the RSTD last April one of the key points I sold myself on in trading my V-Star 950 cruiser was that any time I wanted I could pop off the quick release windshield and backrest and I'd have the style and open air feel of a cruiser. 5 months later I've got the windshield and backrest off so I can get into the details of my baby's weekly bath and wax. I'm about to put them back on when the thought occurs that I've never (NEVER) taken her out without the clip-ons attached. Hmmm. Helmet on and off we go. The difference in feel is amazing. It's like having a completely different bike hidden inside the shell of the RSTD. The open air feel, the perception of freedom, the (probably imagined) nimbleness of response, all brought back the feeling that I loved on my 950. I love the big screen on the highway, and my wife loves the backrest and armrests, but I think the plexi and the backrest may be spending more time on the shelf than they've been used to when I'm going 1-up in town... It feels like the very first time....
  14. Yesterday, I road across the Nevada Desert on HWY 50 on my Venture. As I neared the Utah boarder, temps rose to almost 110 degrees. While I showed that I still had fuel in the tank and I had not yet switched to reserve, I began to feel those momentary surges and sputters which typically occur right before running out of gas. So, I backed-off on my speed and somewhat "drafted" behind a truck for the last 25 miles before I reached a gas station. After filling-up and getting back on the highway, I again began to feel similar surges and sputters occasionally as I attempted to reach speed. This time however, I knew full well that I had plenty of fuel, so that couldn't be it. Then, I began to think that perhaps the in-line fuel filter I installed some time ago might need to be changed. After a little while the temperature dropped down to the upper 90s and my fuel feed issue seemed to disappear over the last 100 miles. So, was it probably a heat-related issue in the carburetors or more likely the fuel filter? If it was the heat which was affecting the performance, what's the best way to deal with it when stuck in the heat? And, if it is the heat which is causing the problem, what exactly is happening? Anyway, we arrived safe and sound, albeit a little bit on the crispy side. Thanks guys and Be Safe! Pete & Sandy
  15. So where is everyone posting links to their Vogel photos from this year? Can't wait to see them! Loved meeting everyone btw. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!
  16. I think I am forgetting something, I think I have everything ready to go to Vogel.......but just feel like something aint right..........ever get that feeling???
  17. A woman backed into me at the gas pumps and rolled the tip of the front fender under. I can feel a slight crease in the fender back near the forks where it mounts. The crease is hard to see but I can feel it. The fender will need to be replaced. It appears their ins. is going to pay up and I'm waiting on a call from their claims adjuster. An estimate has not been done yet. I'm hoping after the estimate is done they'll wright me a check for estimate, parts and labor. I could then install the fender myself and pocket the labor $. I don't know if it will work out this way or not. Luckily this is my first expierance with something like this. The problem is, I cant find a fender in my color. No, I havent checked with the dealer yet. I'm trying to save a little. 2009 RSV"S" in Seashell/Raven. Any ideas where I can find one?
  18. I'm doing progressives on my 88 I'm trying to drain the front forks. I'm using a 19mm hex and reaching way up inside the bottom of the fork. BUT....it feels REALLY TIGHT and I've turned it probably 20 turns and it doesn't feel like its getting any looser. Is the plug really that long? Is it possible to be stripped but not get more free as I keep turning it? Could it just be the seal that makes it feel so tight? I'm almost afraid to try the 2nd fork if I've somehow screwed this one up. Is there an alternative way to drain the fork.? Man I wish I knew what I was doing!!! It's scary stuff when you've never done this before! Every nut and bolt is an adventure LOL
  19. Well the way I feel after surgery my first ride is gonna be way down the road. Doc had a hell of a time with scar tissue from all my earlier surgeries. Lost 3 liters of blood which was replaced plus a bunch more fluids. I was is in ICU from thurs to sat late afternoon. They had a hardtime stabilizing my blood pressure it kept dropping way down then my temp jumped up to 105. So the was touch and go for awhile. Raymond (ColesGrandpa) came and visited Sharon and I at the Hospital sat morning it was nice to see him. But anyhow I got to come home last night. Im on oxygen 24/7 till I go back to doc on monday. I feel ok but I have no strength and have not been able to get really comfy yet. Once that happens I know Im on my way to recovery lol John
  20. I am on my way to Highland MI to visit my brother and have my RSV on a trailer. Yesterday I noticed a dimple in the front tire. Its about dime size and 1/16th deep. The tires have about 14500 miles on them and I believe I could get another 3000 out of them, but do to the dimple I feel the front tires should be replaced. Does anyone know of a good shop in the Highland MI area that I can call. I know that nothing will be open until Tuesday. Any help will be great.
  21. The medication has kicked in and I feel like a new man this afternoon......the redness and swelling is almost all gone...I'm still a little tired but that is to be expected...gonna go to work tomorrow and kick some butt !!!!!! Gonna leave Rocket and Rod in charge of things :yikes: got to keep Rod away from the GRANNYS too !..... modern medicine is a wonderful thing.............I FEEL GOOD :dancefool:
  22. Well here's a tale of caution for thems who ride.. We all know to inspect our tires and keep proper pressures for tire longevity and good handling. Mid May while on a road trip down to the US I95 I hit such a huge divot in the road that it literally threw my assets out of the seat (no easy feat considering my size) but I was able to control the bike and carry on. Didn't see it coming due to the thickness of traffic and concentrating on not getting nailed by kamikaze drivers.. The incident left me with a Works shock that required re-adjustment, but the bike still rode a little dodgy for a while and I ended up getting used to it but doing the Dragon's Tail and BRP didn't feel 100% like it used to.. Checked the neck and all was good, suspension was good.. etc.. Oh well I must be getting old.. The bike still rode fine on the highway, and parking lots but it was that 30-40 mph windy roads that felt dodgy.. Now it's time to replace the front tire, the wear bars are showing, I got me my new replacement E3 tire and lo and behold, an odd looking imperfection or damage to the front tire caught my attention.. I'd not seen it before when inspecting my wheels but there it was.. About thumb sized depression into the tread, slightly off the centre of the tire, and a couple more smaller ones near it.. VERY odd looking and oddly enough never noticed it before. But it was readily visible this time. Luckily I was getting that tire changed! My best guess is a broken belt or something from when I hit that huge divot in May.. and it's now almost July.. wow. Its not that I don't look at my tires or that the depression was 'slight', it simply never caught my eye before then.. (any ideas anyone what that is?) Now with the new tire on the bike, I haven't been able to tackle any corners that gave me problems before (need to scuff them up on dry roads.. and we gots nuttin but rains here).. but already I can tell the bike tracks a lot better and handles a lot better (not just from the new from old tire feel you get after changing tires out). I just wanted to share this with you to keep an eye on tires, feel them with your hands, by rubbing the dirt off the tire is how the depression showed up.. I wish I had taken a photo of it before getting it replaced though I don't know if it would have shown as well. Cheers
  23. Changed the oil on my new to me 08 Wing @ just over 2000 on the OD. What a PIA, having to remove the lower front fairing just to change the oil and is it tight down there. I'll still take the Wing over the RSV though, just for the more balanced feel. I'll be sending my seat to Rick to get the Butt Butler over this next winter I feel like I'm sliding forward or my pants are sliding backward, needs a little bit of a bucket carved out of it. There have been a couple of good reviews here and on one of the GW sites. I was pleased with the work he did on my RSV seat, just wish I was closer to TX. Just a little info and opinion. Jim
  24. :confused24:My 83 boggs and looses RPM on the high side. Starts amd runs great below 3000. Over that she boggs out. New wires and fuel fileter and plugs. I hooked a timing light to each plug wire and all are firing. fresh fuel and even some sea foam. I can feel the fuel pump pulseing.
