Also any nice places to eat or see. Thanks for any help. Craig
  7. 11 days later and my add-on for the scoot came in:bighug:
  8. Argh.. I have the bike tuned up, oil, air, plugs and synch'd and today experienced yet another mysterious shut down while riding.. First time was a few days ago while cruising 70 mph in 4th.. it simply switched off.. Pulled over.. started up again and everything was fine. 3/4 tank of gas, no incident with the next 5 tank fulls and 4 days.. Earlier today while doing errands, in city streets, the bike up and quit again.. huh? Wait a few secs on the side of the road and flashed it up OK and no probs riding it after that.. Highway, back roads and so forth.. In both instances I did not 'accidentally' hit the kill switch. The bike simply died. When it dies, it's almost feeling like the engine isn't making power and then nuttin.. bleh, dead. I'm heading out on a road trip to PA this sunday, I'd really like to know what gives.. Is it possible it's shutting down due to a thermal shut down switch or something? Engine getting too hot? I have plenty of green fluid in the bike.. though I seriously doubt it's ever been flushed since 06 (I'm the 3rd owner)..
  9. We just completed riding the Great River Road along the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Memphis, Tennessee. We followed the river down the west side and returned following the river's east side. All said we rode about 1900 miles and visited 9 of the 10 states that border the mighty Mississippi over 7 days with 2 days spent seeing the sights in Memphis. Our longest ride was a couple of 400 mile days. Besides the beautiful scenery that abounds on both sides of the river we enjoyed stops in many of the little (and big) river towns along the way. We found it interesting how much the cultures change as you head south. This trip was a dream of my wifes ever since she watched Feasting on Asphalt - The River Run on the Food Network. She even bought the book to make sure we hit a few of the host's (Alton Brown) favorite river stops. If you decide to make this ride I stongly recommend using a GPS that will allow you to preload routes as the roads change often if you truly want to follow the river as close as you can. I used a Garmin product that allowed me to create the routes on my PC and then load them into the GPS. Happy Trails!
  10. Had a great time riding this weekend as the TRA group I belong to was invited to ride in the Cokeville, WY Pioneer Days Parade. We had a great ride up and back (about 320 miles) with me on the Venture and Jan on the Sportster (Rick, the seat helped a bunch), a fun time throwing candy to the kids that lined the parade route, and some tasty dutch oven food on Friday and Saturday. I even managed to take a few pictures of the event. On Saturday afternoon, while pulling out of the motel, I was passed by three 2nd Gen Ventures and a fourth bike (didn't see what it was) They were heading south on Hwy 30, anyone from here? I'm ready to do some more Wyo. riding in September at the Roundup. Hope everyone here will think about making this trip. Beartooth and Yellowstone are two of the great rides we'll be taking. Dave
  11. My Dad had heart failure while getting dialysis and is not doing well. Please keep him in your prayers. Rod
  12. Monday I had my Kumho installed on the bike, rode home and was working on a 6' ladder, made a misstep off the ladder and really caused myself some pain Well, that shut down riding for all of this week even tho we had some really nice weather. Monday I go in for a cataract removal in my right eye. There goes another week or so of being grounded Hopefully in another 10 days or so I'll be able to give the Kumho a good tryout. Almost forgot, a good thing has come of it all. I ordered side reflector/led"s for the front and rear. Got plenty of time to mount and get them fitted right.
  13. Once again, we've more than made up for our membership fee. Someone on here posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about inserting your headset ear peices actually into the side of the helmet. Told the hubby about it last night and he just called. He just did the retrofit and said it worked great....don't even know they are in there. We take off for a 5k trip in a couple of days and all I could think about was how much my ears were going to hurt as our helmets fit perfect without the earpiece, but tight with them in. Now, thanks to the post, we'll both be comfy!! Tried to find the post, but couldn't so whoever started it thanks!!!!
  14. I would be interesting in meeting some of you folks while the wife and I are at Star Days this year. Anyone interested in meeting up please let me know. Thanks...
  15. Hey Guys, Well I'm back home for a while after taking off for a week to attend Don's work day and 10 days to take a group up to Spearfish and the Black Hills and back. In fact Linda says I'm grounded for a while but we are planning on taking off for a few days to ride over to the Hub in Arkansas in August. So if you can give up your seat for just one weekend and get it to me early in the week, then I can have your seat (s) reworked and back to you within a week. My time takes less than a day, where the transit time getting it to me and returned takes up the most time. Just drop me an e-mail to Rick_Butler@verizon.net to let me know if I can help you out, Rick
  16. Anyone have a recommendation for a cooling vest? I'd like to find one for my 30-day ride this August. I read somewhere a great review of a vest that can last up to two days but not certain where. Any thoughts?
  17. I found on ebay a set of Yamaha lights, bought them and installed them w/o doing my homework. First - didn't know I should leave the switch in line Second - didn't know I should have put a relay in line Third - and most importantly, I didn't know what the hell I was doing Now, 3 days later, they are switched, they are fed with a 30 amp lighting relay and most importantly the GREEN wire going to the turn signals IS NOT a system GROUND. All it does is make the driving lights and turn signal alternate flashing. That may not be a bad thing but I opted to fix it. After having the front off the bike 3 times in as many days, I'm afriad to walk by with an allen wrench in my for fear one of the front pieces will just automatically fall off. All in all it was a VERY learning experience - Thank you guys for the help and instruction :clap2:
  18. I found a ride report in Roadrunner Magazine a few months back that I found interesting. It begins and ends in Jelico, TN and travels through east TN, southwest VA and northwest NC. I and group of friends plan to ride the same route in a few weeks and we plan on doing it in 3 days from Lexington, KY. Here is a link to the route on HD's ride planner. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/share/236707 For those of you familiar with the area, does this look reasonable to do in 3 days and do you have any recommendations for hotels or restaurants in the area? Thanks, Dennis
  19. :scorched:Looks like the Dog Days of summer are upon us............
  20. My poor venture has been on the jack for 11 days now. Ordered the BFG tire from these guys. Recieved order confirmation showing my shipping and billing addresses, and it stated I would receive tracking number within 48 hours. After 10 days of no response to emails and phone messages for a tracking number, they finally called me back. The cannot ship the tire because my SHIPPING address is different from the BILLING address on my credit card!!!! I live in a commercial district. All mail goes to the POB. The guy wanted me to change the BILLING address on the credit card to my SHIPPING address. I told him that if I did that, I would never receive my bill, and to cancel the order. I placed a new order at DiscountTire.com. They are out of stock, and it may be 14 days before they get it. I really need my bike. I never thought the BFG would be this much trouble to get. I guess all you other guys bought them all.
  21. OK folks, this evening I will start moving all paid members from the "Registered" usergroup to the "Supporting Members" group. This will take me at least a few days because I have to edit each paid members profile to move them to the new group. That is my fault as I didn't have it set up properly before I started the subscriptions. Anybody joining now will automatically get moved to the new group when they purchase a subscription in the UserCP but for those that have already done so, I have to do it manually. I would have been well on my way but there was a little glitch and every time I tried to do it, the supporting member lost the ability to login to the site. A couple of you ran into that and I apologize. So now I have that figured out and it just matter of editing all the profiles. Once I get all the paid members moved to their new group, then I can go back and change the access permissions for the registered but non-supporting members. This is all going to take a few days and in the meantime, those of you who are already moved will show "Supporting Member" beside your name when you post a message. If you have paid and don't see that designation, it's just because I haven't gotten to yours yet so please be patient. When I am done, I will post to let you know and THEN if you see that you got missed for some reason, you can let me know. Thanks, Don
