  1. hello any one know much about insurance company called farmers? i just got done talking to dianne seems her friend a co-worker had his honda pacifica stoled sometime over the weekend? he got back home today and his garage was broken into. gone was the motorcycle and a john deere lawn tractor. im thinking some one had to have a huge trailer to do this? well they called farmers insurance about the bike. and the insurance company said he should file it on his home owners insurance policy? that just makes no sense to him . i told him to get some pictures of the bike if he has some and maybe the vin number if he doesnt mind and maybe we can put a look out for it here on this site if thats ok with the boss? he said he,s not sure if he has pictures of the bike but he could call the P.O who put the ad up in craglist way back when he bought it and get a copy of it as it had pictures. now i see why rule of thumb here pictures man pictures. well any help i would be gratefull for. i cant realy help him. much but will try my best. i think he,s getting shafted by farmers insurance i mean after all he paid his premiums but maybe he dont have full coverage on that bike?
  2. A buddy of mine just got a Vulcan Nomad and it came with Air Lite Lower Engine Guards. Looks like a great idea but according to their website they don't make them for my RSTC. Here is their website: http://airlite.ca/index.php So is there a company that makes them for my bike or would I need to have something custom made? Its getting cold and these make sense to me! Thanks!
  3. When we arrived home and got everything unloaded, started going through all the mail and found an envelope from the company I used to make the t-shirts. They saw from our shirts that we were raising money for St. Jude and sent me a small donation. This is the second time I have used them and they are a class act. The shirts are always first class, and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs shirts done fast and at the right price. The company is CustomInk.com. Visit their link and check out the site. Its easy to design your own shirts, I did it anyone can. My hat is off to CustomInk.com.
  4. i have talked to the loan company about my motorcycle there is a small loan on it that is now being paid by the insurance company. i took out that benifit in case of finance problems so far there paying the loan payments. but they will release the bike for the right price? as of right now its back together just needs some things tighten up and i will go up there and do this latter. as most pepole know im in a finance bind and can hardley make ends meet. the storage runs $75 a month and after august i can no longer afford this. so my thoughts are sell it give the money to the loan company and get out from under it. or if someone close by is willing to store it for free that would be great!!! im looking at this workers comp case to end by december. also the loan company said i could just trade it and they would hold the title to the new bike. and the insurance pepole will still make payments. so that gave me another thought maybe someone has a smaller bike that runs they would trade straight up for so i can do a little ridding this year? ihate to get rid of it. but here is a list if what has been done to it #1 new dunlop tires 404 last year less then 500 miles on them. #2 skydocks fuse up grade #3 nice exhaust put on used from ebay but all there from front to back includeing the nice collector. and turn down tips. #4 new brakes with new rear rotor this was a $1200 fix that was part of haveing the exhaust and brakes done. have recipet. #5 used radiotor from skydock and used hoses new antifreeze installed i ran the bike and no leaks thanks skydock and the other member who gave me the hoses. also installed the side plugs? that dingy sent again no leaks. #6 nice battery that i bought at a harley shop cost $125 gel type less then 7 months old and i used skydocks battery sender wire to stop the flashing light on the computer. and im sure there is other stuff im forgetting? now the bad she needs the carbs sync she idles ok but needs the choke to start it? after about a minute choke can be pulled off and she idles but a little rough? seafoam was added at storage and new plugs installed. she needs a paint job its faded and there are some of the usual crack. rear trunk passenger pad needs to be redone shes ripped. ihvae the chrome rack but nedds 2 screws removed they broke off but the rack is still nice and shinny. could use a new clutch and front brake master the sight glass is ugly. a little time by you experts here and this bike will run like it should. it has 77k on her. but if some one is willing to store it i would like to keep it or trade for a small bike till next year once again many thanks to all of the help from you great pepole sincerly oldgoat
  5. I'm near Kingston ON, and I'll probably head over the bridge in Gananoque and be riding thru NY along the north shore of Lake Ontario. I have a membership in a campground near Lewiston NY so that could be a potential stop. (I'll never make an iron butt rider!) Is anyone planning on riding down to Don's and passing by or near this way? It's always more fun to ride with company rather than solo. ( my wife won't be making the trip either) LEt me know....maybe we can hook up. It could be possible to go by way of Toronto around to Niagara...but that is a couple hours longer for me.
  6. You have no idea. This is totally unexpected!!!! Problem is, not only where have him sleep,,, but what to have for supper!!!!
  7. I ordered a hopnel tank bib and when it arrived I tried to install it and the gas filler hole was to small and was cut about 3/4" to low for the filler opening. What is happening with this product as I have seen other people with the same problem on this site. I sent a email to the company yesterday that I purchased it from but haven't heard from them yet. How many have had this problem, are these still made by Hopnel or is it a different company????
  8. the corbin seat company. is for sale,so i decided to buy it. no not the company, a new solo seat for my nomad. i mounted it yesterday. this is my 7th corbin seat. it is ultra comfortable and i haven't broke it in yet. corbin says it takes a couple of thousand miles to form the memory foam, which i have found to be true, from past experience. i have had quite a few custom seats, and i still find corbin to be the best for the long haul. i rate this one a 15 on the 10 scale, for looks and comfort. my wife does'nt like the corbin touring seat on my v-star 1300. i think the rear floor board position may be the problem. i told her you will like it, cuz i'm not buying anymore seats.
  9. Time for the right eye this time! Sure will be great to have two eyes matching in brightness again!! Of course I will appreciate your prayers! Looking forward to another few weeks off from work! If you're in town please stop by, I like company. Hopefully we wil have a couple of rainstorms followed by sunny and warm temps!!!!! I wanna ride!
  10. Some forwarded emails that I get (jokes, etc.) have a long list of prior recipients, and sometimes names with business titles, email addresses, information that I am surprised to see. Often these are references to business emails, have job titles, company names, all that. I'm curious about how many members actually are using work computers and internet connections for personal reasons, or know of someone doing this. When I was working (retired at 67) I neither had the time nor the inclination to use company equipment for personal activity. The last few years I didn't have access to company computers, but before that had plenty of opportunity. Just seems like I was busy doing my job. Not making accusations, just curious.
  11. BEST TRUE LAWYER STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE, AND POSSIBLY THE CENTURY This took place in Charlotte, North Carolina . A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of small fires.' The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued - and WON! (Stay with me.) Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable 'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the 'fires'. NOW FOR THE BEST PART... After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine. This true story won First Place in last year's Criminal Lawyers Award contest. ONLY IN AMERICA ............NO WONDER THE REST OF THE WORLD THINKS WE'RE NUTS

  13. Some of you know it already but for those who aren't aware of the change. New Enough has changed their name to Motorcycle Gear. I have replaced the old newenough.com banner with the motorcyclegear.com banner. They are a great company and through your purchases, have donated several hundred dollars in gift certificates to our club and 100% of those contributions have been returned to members here in the form of raffles, prizes, etc. Please continue to select venturerider.org as your club of choice during the checkout process when you purchase from motorcyclegear.com The company has not changed. It has not sold and is not under new management. They have just changed their name to reflect the fact that they are no longer a used motorcycle garment dealer as they started out but are now a great vendor of NEW quality merchandise at great prices.
  14. I got to say, I wonder about how the brain fuctions for some of these wannabe bad boys. I came home from work this afternoon with an armload of groceries and found that when I grabbed the doorknob it felt odd. Not round anymore. More oval shaped. When I left for work at 4:00 AM it was round to the best of my recall. Taking a closer look it was smashed and the shank had scars on it like those of a channel lock or pipe wrench. Nice. Custom! The key hole had a piece of wire stuck in it and broken off. That sucked. I couldn't open my own front door. Called my security company and a locksmith. The security guy told me there has been a rash of attempted break-ins on my block. During the day most the time. No sucessful entries but they did try. The thing is there is a dead bolt right above the door knob. Guess they didn't notice that. And a quick look in the front window they would have been looking directly into the security camera (which was on and blinking) pointing at the porch. Not very observant. So the locksmith got me in and installed a new doorknob and rekeyed the deadbolt also. He was laughing because if the door had been opened they would have noticed the security chain for sure and the audibule alarm (95db) from the system and the stobe lights firing in every room. (I have a major hear loss so lights are my alert and defense) So I stepped into my lil office room and checked the cameras. Yep. Got him. No good shot of his face (damned hoodie) but he was fun to watch for like almost 5 minutes screwing with the door. But as he left I got a nice shot at the back of his hoodie with a company name on it. Nice and clear. I burned a copy for the security guy and another one for the LEO that stopped by. They enjoyed it. So I guess I'll keep my eyes open for a moron wandering around my area advertising for the lucky company. I'd like to introduce myself. Maybe with a pipe wrench to his knob. The sad part is....as he has not actually been able to sucessfully enter a home, the only thing they say they can charge him with is vandalism. And I live in a "nice" area. Just happens to be filled with idiots. Nuttin worse that a stupid crook.
  15. Hello, I need some advice, I am selling my 1985 Yamaha VR 1200, I am asking $3000 firm. A person emiled me and wants to ship my bike to Sounth America but to do this he has sent me $3960.00 via paypal. This $3960 is on a hold till I make a $960.00 payment through westerin union to the shipping company with my OWN MONEY. Do you think this is scetchy? From the guys trying to buy my bike: "Before i make the payment, there is something i need you to be aware of,i just received an email from the shipping company that will be in charge of the pick up.They are saying i need to pay them their fees which is $900 before they proceed with coming for it and the only form of payment that they accept is Western Union Money Transfer.Where i am,the nearest union office is 8hrs where i am overseas,I dont know if it will be ok,if i include this agent's fees in the payment i will be sending you now,so on receipt of the total funds, you will remove the additional funds of $900 and help me send it at your local Western Union office.Let me know if this is ok and i will proceed with the payment." shortly after this email, I didn't even get back to him yet and he already put the $3960 into my paypal. I feel he is sort of pushing me into the situation where I have to make the $960 payment(with my own Money) to a shipping company that I do not know and the shipping company picks up on Sundays?. I do not not how W.U. works but i know how paypal works and i know with few clicks of a mouse that $3000 could be back in there bank. Any input will be greatly appreciated, Brendan
  16. It's still really beaking my heart parting out the Venture. Oh well, got to move on sometime I guess. I'm staying here though. Too much good company and information. Besides, I know there are other LT's here.
  17. As a couple of you may know, I was laid off my job Christmas week 2009. I have tried everything I could think of to find a job with almost zero luck. I worked a few weeks on an assembly line putting together electronics items for military hummers. Very hard work... very low pay... I just could not find anyone who was willing to hire a 55yr old, over qualified, over experienced, over eager medical imaging engineer. So I decided to make a go of it on my own. The opportunities were good, but the bureaucracy was greater. How do you float a 4 million dollar liability bond when you are unemployed? You don't. So that cut my opportunities by 90%. Still I managed to find enough work to keep my head above water. I had secured a contract to work for a local small service company that has kept the lights on and food on the table. Today that contract turned into a full time job with the company! It is far from the six figures I was making but will certainly turn into an adequate salary. With this will come medical insurance and the ability to allow my Navigator to retire. Just like so many others, it has been a hard 10-12 months. Finally, some breathing room...
  18. In the past, I've used the Scala Rider teamset, and it worked great for what it was. It was also $300 at the time. I'm not sure what it runs nowadays, but I talked my father in law into ordering a knock-off version and he loves it! I just figured I'd share. The shipping was a bit slow, taking around 2 weeks... I've ordered from thei company before, they have a LOT of gizmos and gadgets that are straight from Hong Kong... Here's a link to the headset if anyone is interested! http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.35612
  19. after much deliberation and looking at my bank account i ordered a new seat from ultimate seats. best move i 've made in a while. we ride a 1997 rstd and the stock seat choices were terrible. this is the most comfortable seat i've found anywhere, the phone at the company was answered by a real person who was very helpful and courtious, and the seat arrived in 5 days. everything about the perchase was a positive experience. i would recommend this seat and this company very highly. ride safe and be cool, thumper1:clap2:
  20. I got a letter from my insurance company today asking me the value of my 89 VR. Mine is in what I consider excellent condition with 21,800 miles. The only option on it is the lighted chrome rear bumper. I put on a rivco oil filter adapter, cable upgrade and braided ss brake lines. Kelly Blue book lists it at $3495 and NADA list it at $4125. I carry full coverage on it. Apparently the insurance company, Foremost considers it a classic if it has under $500. in accessories. I have the option of keeping street or classic insurance. My questions are should I value it at the higher value and is classic insurance cheaper than street insurance? Insurance has cost me $300. a year in the past. Thanks Dave
  21. Just an FYI - the company called Powersport Superstore seems to be a very risky vendor. If you order something from them that that has some function and needs to be installed to see if it actually works, they will flatly refuse to authorize a return for anything that has been installed, even when they sold you a defective item. I personally find that business practice dishonest and will not deal with them again. Goose (Note that this is NOT the same company as Motorcycle Superstore. I have had many perfectly fine transactions with Motorcycle Superstore and will continue to use them.)
  22. I have a 1998 Royal Star Boulevard xvz 1300a and I am looking for a passenger backrest. Can anyone direct me to a company that makes backrests or seats for my bike?
  23. Is there anyone from Arkansas going to Don's Maintenance day and would like some company?
  24. Hey guys, I'm sure some of you may have seen these links on E-Bay UK but if not it might be worth checking them out. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=KDWCHK74QNR6L Probably more use to the European and UK members but the company were very efficient and a great price, especially against getting them made yourself. Cheers
  25. to the unemployment line. The Company she worked for lost the contract so the new company came in and offered her a job but cut her hours big time. Also wanted her to start 2 hours earlier. We commute together and to a different city (40 miles return). She is a hard worker so I am sure she will find something, hopefully soon. Brad
