  1. I need the rubber "cap" or flap or cover that goes over the clutch bleeder access hole on my 84. Anyone got one?
  2. Here's an interesting one for you... regarding carb synch.. This is a little unique for me as I travel north south and hit 40-50'F temp change within a couple of days.. Before going on this previous road trip, I had synch'd my carbs as precise as I could and on test runs it ran smooth and sweet in 38-41'F weather we had here mid month of May.. But once I get down to South Carolina, in the 90's temp and I can feel thumping as I put power onto the bike at highway speeds, so that could be head winds? When I got back here today, I could barely feel that thumping.. I had thought perhaps it's my clutch plates acting up or something... like that.. hot oil, clutch oil heating up etc.. but when we got up here.. it smoothed out.. but it's still there under the surface.. So is what I'm feeling more to do with my clutch or with my carb synch, and does temp make that huge of a difference on it?
  3. My RSTC feels good but for some reason my buddys 99 venture seems to pull better. I did do the skydoc clutch upgrade but my bike doesnt slip so that shouldnt be athe difference. Is there a HP difference among those years?
  4. Riding in the Southern USA and going to change my Clutch Fluid, all I notice us DOT 4 full Synthetic Fluid, is this the proper fluid to use? I hadn't noticed in Canada if it was fully Synthetic or not.
  5. From what I’ve read on clutch and clutch slippage has left me with a couple questions. I'd like to do the spring upgrade but am now thinking of doing the plates as well, so-o-o... 1) Where and what do I ask for when ordering/upgrading my clutch springs? I believe I will also need a new gasket... anything else? Torque values? 2) I understand the friction thing but doesn’t switching from a half plate to a full plate decrease the pounds per square inch on the contact surface by distributing the pressure over a larger surface area?? Pressure vrs friction??? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the larger plates? Perhaps I'm just over thinking this?
  6. Dont know how to do a search for this question so will ask instead. Started the royal star up today, pressed the clutch lever there was no tension. Put in gear, it died. Put in neutral and started it again and put in first. The clutch lever did not work. Could not get out of gear to neutral. Had to kill it and roll back and forth to get to neutral. I put in a new clutch kit a few years back, hardly any miles on it. Should I change out the fluid or the engine oil? Any ideas? Jim
  7. Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee. My name is Greg Gill and I am at Waukesha County Tech taking a MSF ultimatebike rider course. During exercise 1 I fried my clutch. I can sit still in 1st gear. MC shops are closed. Cash paid for a VMax clutch spring kit. Call my cell .
  8. My buddy has a 99 venture and he just loves gooosing the throttle. so much that it started slipping on him. I said I would do the work but i cant seem to find the clucth kit. the stealer wants$350 for the kit. Does anyone know where I can buy a clutch kit without giving my buddy a heart attack. Any suggestions as well. i think his clucth has to be bled because my 96 feel firmer than his so that may be part of the problem.
  9. Are there instructions that deal with the skydoc upgrade only. I want to do it once and not have do it again cause I replaced the wrong disc.
  10. After install and before replacing outer cover i tried pulling the clutch lever to see if all was working correctly is it normal at this stage to see nothing moving ie plates moving pressure plates moving. The clutch lever is hard as to squeeze in i reinstalled the original setup and still hard as way harder than before pulling down have i done somthing wrong here.I have not put completly back together yet as i dont want to destroy gasket untill sure. Awaiting a reply Thanks Terry
  11. On my 89 with 45,000 miles on it, the cruise control works great.....if I hold the clutch lever all the way out with my hand. When I bought the bike 2 years ago, I relplaced the bushing, but that didn't help much. There is quite a bit of play between where the clutch cylinder quits pushing the lever outward and the end of travel where the cruise control senses that the clutch is released. It seems to me that maybe I want to replace or stretch the spring that is between the clutch cylinder and the lever bushing?? Anybody have any experience with this problem?? Frank D.
  12. Can someone tell me why yamaha made clutch and brake levers to fit a gorilla hand? The reach on these levers is rediculously far with no adjustment! And my hands are not small, I'm 6'-0", 190#. Does anyone else agree? Does anyone have a solution?
  13. Well I think I am in need of some new clutch springs, at the least. I took my scoot out today with my wife and just let her run. About 4000 rpm I could feel the clutch starting to slip, not much just a little slip, and only in 3rd gear up. Do you all agree that just a spring upgrade is all I need or do I need to think about an entire clutch altogether. Thank You. Shaun I think SkyDoc sells the clutch stuff, will have to dig around.
  14. has anyone replaced a clutch on a Venture around the year 2002, how hard is it? I have 53,000 miles on my bike and now the clutch has started slipping when i hammer down on it in fifth gear, the hotter it is the more the slip!
  15. Good evening. I replaced my brake pads, flushed the brake system, flushed and filled the rear diff, and went to flush my clutch and cant find the bleeder. Can anyone point me in the general location? I have a 2005 royal star AKA "the beast" New tires going on this week!!! Whoo whoo I cant wait for the weather to break in Michigan!!!
  16. I was wondering if anyone in the area would be willing to help me do the clutch upgrade?by the way I live in kiel wi but i'm willing to travel for help
  17. Started when I switched dash lights out with LEDs. Suspect issue always there, but unseen with incandescent dash bulbs. I noticed every time I shifted up or down, any gear, neutral light would illuminate for just a fraction of a second. I was at first thinking mechanical, (play in shift shaft against neutral switch) as it seemed to happen just as clutch was re-engaging. Then I remembered that there was a clutch lever switch in the neutral cutout starting circuit. After playing with clutch lever some more, I believe the issue is in this electrical circuit. Does not matter if I shift or not, nor how much I may feather the clutch, always lights at same point just before clutch lever at full release (suspect point for lever switch). Also always just a fraction of a second flash, even if I play aroung the spot of the lever switch, I can not get neutral to stay lit for any more than a flash, unless in neutral of course. Not sure what exactly is happening in the circuit, but as I found out with the RLU dash light, the new LED bulbs will illuminate full bright with less than 2volts stray voltage. Not calling it a problem, and not likely worth time to figure out and correct/bypass/mod..etc. Just interesting fluke from using LEDs.
  18. Pulled the 96 out of the shed today, it's been there since late October. NO fluids whatsoever in the resevoir. Added Dot 3, bled, added, bled added, no pressure at all in the clutch. No noticeable leaks anywhere. Pulled the side cover, pulled off the "slave cylinder" and had a heck of time to get it to move. Finally freed it up. Pulled it apart, can feel a ridge inside about 10 thou....have it all apart still. Comments? New slave cylinder required? Best place to buy? What a spot to get at! Sure glad my son can wrench, and more importantly...SEE! This getting old crap...and owning two bikes is a wee bit challenging at times. Thanks gunk:shock3:
  19. I ha d Earl work on my 89 VR over the winter and one of the things I had him change was the switch and clutch lever because the cruise would cut off when I went over a bump in the road. Well, to make a long story short, I went for a ride today and the cruise doesn't work. When I turn the switch on, both the power light and the resume light come on and stay on. I cannot set the cruise. Also, the bike would not start with the bike in gear and the clutch handle in. I had to put the bike in Neutral to start it. I took the switch apart on the clutch handle and cleaned it and lubed it with dielectric grease and it now starts with the bike in gear and clutch in, but the resume light and power light are still on and the cruise does not work. The cruise worked, before I had the clutch handle changed, but would go off when the clutch handle was wiggled. So, I am not sure what to look for. I assume that I have a bad connection somewhere and will have to take the fairing off to look at the wiring. Is there a difference in the switches on the clutch handle, between years, as I had Earl change the switch that I bought off fleabay and now wonder if there is a difference in the switches. Has anyone had this problem before? Any suggestiions would be appreciated. Jim
  20. OK I see all the threads and posts about upgrading the spring on the RSV clutch but can't find anything on where to purchase the upgraded spring kit. I am getting a tiny bit of slippage when I really roll the throttle back in 2bd gear and thought if I changed the spring to the upgraded one it would stop this. What do you all think anf if you think mit will solve the problem which kit and where do I get it. Thanks Rick
  21. How much oil loss is there during a clutch replacement? 2nd question, how much time will it take me?
  22. I am looking for some help or advice on an 86 Goldwing 1200 My son got a n 86 Gold wing last spring, yea I know it’s not a Venture but he likes it and the price was right his other bike is a Valcon 1500 and he can’t keep up with me when we ride together and long rides are out on that thing it’s just not comfortable on road trips. Anyway last fall the stator went out so the project over the winter was to replace the stator. Well as you know if you have ever worked on a Goldwing to replace the stator you have to remove the engine. So while we had it out we replaced the clutch and the timing belts rather than waiting on them to break down. Well the stator is replaces and working good that’s another story in its self, and we double and triple checked the timing belts with the engine out and with engine back in place. The clutch works better than it ever did when he had it. After putting it all back together the engine runs good a little back fire but hardly noticeable when sitting still even at high rpm’s but when he tries to ride it there is just no torque when he lets out the clutch in gear it can hardly move itself on level ground any king of a grade and you have to keep slipping the clutch to go. When you release the clutch it stalls out completely, the clutch works fine fully engages and disengages just like it should we even flushed the clutch cylinder and checked to be sure it is working freely all is OK. We had the carb rack out at least 4 times to check for vacuum leaks or linkage problems but nothing. Timing is right on, all the cylinders are getting spark 2 of the cylinders look like they may be running rich (Plugs are wet) but no indication of unburned fuel in the exhaust. We really don’t want to rebuild the carbs without having a real good reason to. We are at the end of our wits and he is ready to scrap it out for parts if we don’t get it running soon. This bike ran good before we had to pull the engine to replace the stator. So any help or suggestions would be helpful Thanks Gary
  23. ok after reading many posts on here about how to bleed a clutch line cable or whatever i have come to the conclusion that i need step by step instructions on how to gravity bleed and hand pump bleed my clutch on my 1984 venture xvz1200,i`am totally new at this but will attempt anything with the right instructions,so if u can lead me to a step by step post or just give me the directions i would greatly appreciate it, i have ordered a manual but as yet it has not arrived, please keep in mind that only thru these posts di i discover where the bleeder screw is that is how little i know :)thnx in advance for any and all help troy:fingers-crossed-emo
  24. First I need to say that I had the clutch slippage issue in 4th and 5th. Also on a slight uphill grade, I could not hold 5th gear at 50 mph. It would shudder and buck causing to me to downshift. I orderes his clutch spring upgrade. WOW! This thing should be listed under performance upgrades! I feel like I have more power than before. I can even hold 5th gear on the same grade and accelerate! It is almost like a brand new bike. If you haven't done this yet, do it! Best purchase I've made yet! Just for giggles, Mine is a 97 RSTC with 63,XXX on the odometer. Second owner and was prob not taken care of to well by the PO. Thanks Skydoc_17!
  25. I am considering an EFM auto clutch for my 2008 rsv. Anyone have one on their rsv? Do you like it? Was it an easy install?
