2007 RSTD w/23k miles and factory warranty until October. Yes; a squeak at idle and fading away with engine rpm, or at least I don't hear it. I just changed oil a few miles before it manifested itself most of the time at an idle. I could occasionally hear it prior to the oil change but very minor in volume, yet now much louder and most of the time. I took it to the dealer and he couldn't identify it yet was willing to tear into it but was cautious about doing that without a clear idea what they were looking for. He asked about oil change and I replied it was just done within a few hundred miles and it was 10-40 Kendal 4 stroke Motorcycle oil. He suggested that I change it to 20-50 since we live in south Florida and it should perform well with it, we could see if the change has any effect on the noise. I read a thread that sounded similar to my noise with the best comment being a possible water pump bearing but 90% of the replies were rhetoric about the OP have hearing issues, so please just good positive comments. Thanks

I always change the Mobil 1/filter in the spring even when it has less than my usual 3000 miles between changes. I am beginning to think that 5000 mile/once a year change intervals would be adequate. What do you think? Is anyone using a 5K change interval with a top shelf fully synthetic oil like Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40?

OK, just for a minute let's all pretend we are in the camp that thinks Dyna Beads work. Wait for it...are we there yet? Good, Here goes. Being a cheap bas$#&d, I was just wondering. If Dyna Beads work to ballance your tires, why wouldn't BBs work just as well at 1/10 the cost? Easier to recover and reuse in your next tire change too. Of course they would have to be installed at the time of the change. Just wondering. Opinions?

This bike came with no owners manual and my search skills are apparently limited. I was wondering what the warning symbol directly below the side stand warning is. Maybe fuel? :confused24:Also I think I'm going to have to change the thermostat. Coolant is flowing through the radiator long before the temp gauge comes up. Then there's the battery warning mod I need to do, which I have found info on.

I finally have time to donate to the 86, I fixed the tail light this morning which wasn't working and synced the carbs now I am replacing the tires. The homemade trailer hitch is a BIG PAIN in the BUTT I think the next time I change the rear I will get rid of it.I am getting to old to keep doing this stuff.

I am not bashing HD, I own one, and its even one of "THOSE" AMF bikes. 31 years and still runing strong. Anyways, I digress.............Took a rode trip with two HD Ultra's something something something??don't know all the specif code designation? FLHSTCUC$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but I know he bought it two Sundays ago and dropped just over 36K. $36,000.00 36K??????? Sorry, I just can't fathom dropping that kinda change on a scooter, well, about 75 miles into the trip, just outside of menlo on our way to Lookout Mountain, he has to pull over, saying his bike ain't charging. We all take a look, AMP guage is running a steady 10V, no change on revs. Turn it off, it starts? Turn it off, now it won't start? Cranks, no spark, no fire? Cartersville HD comes, picks up the bike with a trailer, follow back to stealership. turns out he needs a new stator? 5-10 days for delivery? REALLY?!!!! Spend $36K and already a STATOR!!!! Not appoligetic, nuthin! Find a way home now ,thank you.....WOW, but they have some nifty looking coffee mugs in the showroom, nothing for my bike? Well, it was priceless, the place was packed! Had a band playing, vendors, and he had to throw a leg over MY RSV and ride out bit*h on the back with him leaving a two week old 36k bike behind!!!!! Sooo, if you have ever read one of my previous rants about the factory, today just reloaded me with fresh ammo! Ride safe my friends

Had to get up at 3am this morning to drive a supply truck around the mountains to rest stops for a major bicycle race held here every year. Finished deliveries and was back home about 9am or so after a breakfast stop. The roads we ride around Vogel are going to be packed with about 3,000 bicycles today. I think I'll stay off the roads. But, the weather is a beautiful 82F so, just did an oil change on my Suzuki DR200, lubed the chain up, and filled the air in the tires, and will head for the dirt roads in the Chattahoochie Natl Forest. Will thaw out a steak for dinner when I get back in 3 hours or so.

89 VR 27k The PO kept telling me it needed 5 qts at an oil change because he had installed a spin on filter adapter. I noticed that the oil level window was covered with oil. Spec is 5 total, 4 on a change w filter. If he was adding 5 at a change, I guess he was running w 6 in the case. It's as it should be now, but has anyone heard of this happening with any effect of some kind? T

Well I finished doing the rear tire change it was not bad easier than other bikes I've done. But I must say coming up with a way to get the bike lifted on the jack was the hardest part! I'm going to have to get me or make a lift adapter! New tire and checked the brakes and greased up everything now I'm ready to go!!!!!!!!

I have a 1987 VR that when you hit the starter button there is a whining noise of the starter turning but not fire. Right now it is on the center stand, in neutral, kick stand up, kill switch on position. No change with the clutch held in either. New plugs New wires New TCI New Starter relay New Battery Starter checks good (have used two with no change) Following the troubleshooting guide in the maintenance manual good ohm readings on: Pickup coils Stator Coils Connectors all clean. I searched for this and have not found any answers to this, I would like to change my handle bars to ape hangers and would like to do myself but would like as much info in what to look into, like handle bars sizes how does that work because of the fairing we have, how would i know what size cable i would need for the throttle and for the brakes and clutch, also how and where do i change the clutch hose is that a diffical job. I never changed my handle myself so i would like to make sure i dont miss anything. I would also like to ask if anyone has seen any risers that have a 6" pull back but with no rise at all so i can just use the stock bars. ok thank for all your help and hope to hear from you all soon.

Something I've always wondered about. First a little about my riding habits. I have a 99 RSV that I have owned since 2000. I ride on average 13-15K miles per year. Around 90% hiway miles and about 50% 2up. I don't race my bike, but I don't baby her either, I don't mind bumping the rev limiter once in a while, but don't do it every day. Now for my question. Why is it that my spark plugs only last around 10K miles at the most? The bike will run fine at lower to midrange RPMs, but at higher RPMs it feels like a miss or fuel starvation. Change plugs and all is good again. I run the recomended NGK DPRE8-9. I've tried equivalent Bosch but there's no difference. When I change the plugs, they are a nice grey/tan color with no signs of eroding, still gaped to spec (hurts my soul to throw them away). Look as good as new. Why can I get 90-100K on my plugs in the car, and less than 10K on the bike?

There has been a change of venue for our M & E on Aug 6th (the Upstate NY Cruise & Cream). The Harbor Towne Belle cruise has been changed to a cruise on the Sam Patch packetboat on the Erie Canal(website: www.samandmary.org). We did not meet the minimum number of passengers for a trip on the Harbor Towne Belle. The cruise on the Sam Patch will start at 2:00 PM from the dockage at Schoen Place in Pittsford, NY. I have reserved 20 seats for this cruise and can change the total up to Tuesday the 2nd of Aug. We will leave my home at 1:00 PM for the ride to Pittsford. (Approx. 20/25 minute ride.) PLEASE NOTE THE NEW TIME FOR DEPARTURE FROM MY HOME. We will also have a complimentary shuttle service for everyone that is staying overnite, on Saturday night, at the two hotels listed in the original M & E notice (Holiday Inn Express & Hampton Inn). We will be offering adult beverages at the dinner after the cruise, and this will allow you to leave your bike at our home and be escorted to your hotel in the evening. You will also be picked up in the morning and returned to our home to retrieve your scoot. We will serve coffee and donuts, bagels, etc for a morning snack when you retrieve your scoot. Please let me know if you are staying overnight. If you arrive early on Saturday, we will be serving a light snack of “finger foods” before we leave from my home on Saturday. Please update your name on the calendar, if you want to delete your name or, if you have not previously signed up, and wish to participate, please do so ASAP. I will need a final count for the cruise by Aug 2nd. Thanks Jim

I read a post from Goose and he stated that you can inspect the rear pads from behind the right rear bag. I did as he said and it was no problem. Just get you a long screw driver and pop the plastic cover off, then have a bright small flashlight and your spectacles to see the brake lining. The cover pops right back on with the use of the screw driver to push down upon the cover once placed in position. My pads where in the 1/4" use range. The inside was around 3/16" while the outside was 1/4". So for those of you whom have changed and have experience with brakes. I am wondering though, just how much pad can I depend upon until change time ? Do the original pads have rib-bits in them, or are they clued? If clued then I may be looking at about another 4,000 miles till change time? The bike has 13,000 on it now, 2007 model. I also checked my Avon Venom tires with a bright flashlight for cracks. There was none. So I am pleased. They are two years old and 8,000 miles. So I am happy about that. But I am somewhat concerned about the brakes, since I have no prier experience with them. Thanks to Goose for the information on checking the pads. Thanks to all in advance for any help deciding on the pads to change. I do know that when I change, I think I need to use the EBC double H sintered pads. I saw some here in the classifieds for $ 27.00 . Fuzzy

Guys- I am going to change out my steering head bearings. Do I need to order any seals? The park shark print shows part #3 as (cover ball race 2) is this just the upper dust seal? and is there one like it on the stem under the #2 bearing. I might as well change the fork oil, should I remove the top nut on the forks or use the lower drain hole? I see the part number has changed on the stem nuts, if I replace the rubber washer with a steel one do you have to replace the stem nuts? Thanks guys..
