  1. I come here tonight a bit humbled. When my bike blew out the clutch in sept. I was a bit distrout. Was thinking about parting it out.Now its setting in my driveway repaired. Allit needs is a new tire on the rear to get me up and going. This is where the thnk you's come in. All of these are in no particular order. To those who pitched in and made it monetarily possible I am gratefull. I dont know who you are as Aamcotrans (Rob) will not tell me who you are.Rob you started this whole thing and Im gratefull. To( Jeff) muffinman who took the time to help diagnose it and finally talk me into bringing the bike to him so he could fix it, and also finding the parts needed for a 1/3 of the price for new. And to (Earl) skydoc for the constant calls and pm's talking me out of parting the bike. I was ready to do tis to get the money to buy something new. Now I can ride again just need to get a new tire so I can ride further than my own neighberhood. Again many thanks to all who were involved . I dont know who you all are so if I forget someone please dont be upset. I have my ideas who all helped but they didnt want to be brought out into the open. Thanks again This group is the greatest extended family ever David
  2. Is there anyone out there on the south side of Atlanta with a tire changer? I've got my rear wheel off my 96 RSTC and am looking to swap out the tires. I am thinking of buying a tire changer but would really like to get back on the road sooner. I can afford to pay a little bit but not what the shops around here want. If you can help me or if you know someone that can do it at a reasonable rate could you let me know. Thanks Bob
  3. Then the beast bit its "HEAD OFF"!!!!
  4. heres a bit more for ya! this is almost a must have http://entrosys.com/ :mo money:its only money:mo money:
  5. Just wondering what the most quite exhaust is that can be installed on an RSV? Have khrome works now and a bit to loud for me.
  6. Good write here makes it nice and easy. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258 They were out a bit. I wonder if I'll be able to tell the difference? How does one know the rpm at idle?
  7. Does anyone know someone who paints trucks. I have an 04 trailblazer which the clear is peeling, slight paint fade, and some rust starting at the bottom of the rear doors. Truck does not have 60,000 miles on it. Phoned around here and the numbers seem a bit high, Four grand, Ouch, plus our local 13 percent taxes. Would be willing to drive it somewhere Northern Ontario, Michigan, New York. Any Ideas ? Brad
  8. Hi all - Read all the posts about the wheel chocks and most deal with Harbor Freight. Anyone hear of this one? Or use it? A bit pricey but apparently adjustable for width. http://steadymate.com/us/product/20/68/steadymate-motorcycle-wheel-chock.html
  9. Hi, My clutch friction point is way out at the end of the lever travel. I'd like to bring it in a bit as my hand is only just big enough. Do I have any adjustment options, or is it time for new friction plates plain and simple? BTW, the clutch does not slip. For example, yesterday I was at a light on an incline and, when it went green, I found I had only downshifted as far as 2nd. The old gal (~60k miles) groaned and shuddered a bit, but pulled away up the incline in 2nd no probs. Thanks, Brian H.
  10. This seems a bit pricey to me. RandyA http://cgi.ebay.com/87-model-yamaha-venture-royal-/320578578158?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item4aa3f8e6ee
  11. In the past, I've used the Scala Rider teamset, and it worked great for what it was. It was also $300 at the time. I'm not sure what it runs nowadays, but I talked my father in law into ordering a knock-off version and he loves it! I just figured I'd share. The shipping was a bit slow, taking around 2 weeks... I've ordered from thei company before, they have a LOT of gizmos and gadgets that are straight from Hong Kong... Here's a link to the headset if anyone is interested! http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.35612
  12. Well I finally got some solid motor mounts, a "CondorBrace", and a new Metzler all put on. I also repacked the swing arm bearings, cleaned all the bushings and installed zerks in the rear suspension. I also bought a chin cowl from Alabamacameo and got it installed today after I wrapped the front header pipes with header wrap to help cut radiant heat. I also took out the Y.I.C.S. and I have no more popping or coughing going on. Then I got my carb synchronizer from the guy in the big brown truck, so I synced the carbs this evening. Hopefully I'll have some new to me pipes late this week or early next week. This thing feels like a whole new bike! Much better handling. The solid mounts didn't seem to add any sort of vibrations. It even sounds a bit quieter with the headers wrapped. This winter I'll be putting the original engine back in so it will be getting some new gears to avoid the second gear issue. I'll also be adding a higher output stator and a spin on oil filter adapter. I'll have to make sure the valves are adjusted good while its out as well. About the only thing I can think of that's left on my to do list is to make a header style collector similar to the ones made by Markspipes. Unless of course one pops up for a reasonable price either on eBay, Craigslist, or on here. Now I just have to find the time to give it a good/quick wash before the big ride in Durand, WI. this Saturday. The 12 hour night shift really doesn't help give a bunch of extra time on my hands. Well here a few pics of the chin cowl that I got from Alabamacameo installed. It's a bit different than the ones I've seen on all the other 1st gens. I think it looks a bit sportier. Thanks, Bill
  13. Hello Everyone: FYI, I just listed a 14" windshield and lower plastic pieces, that I resently took off of my 05 RSTD. It is less than one year old. I simply needed a bit taller windshield. I put on a 19.5 inch windshield. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks...
  14. Hello all, Searching for a Midnight Venture and found what appears to be a nice example. My only issue is I know little of what particular examples are worth. Here is the find; http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2003-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Midnight-Venture-97217933 Price seems a bit strong for the miles. Can anyone please give me some insight into this market? Thanks!
  15. I have mentioned in the past that my pillion and I lost two of our three Border Collie dogs in the past couple of years. The remaining dog, Cooper, has been a bit lonely of late so I bit the bullet and got him a mate. Meet Chloe. Sorry they're not real good quality shots - done on my phone. First shot is Chloe and the other is Chloe and Cooper in the back of my ute. (That's pick up to you northerners!!) Ain't she sweet?
  16. Anyone who hasn't done this, I highly recommend it. I recently had it done and had the real test during STAR Days (going to it, during it and coming home). Overall guessing did 1500+ miles in a 5 day period. I had just a little tiny bit of that butt burn feeling but certainly not enough to make it uncomfortable in the least. Best $40 I have ever spent.
  17. Hello from Mechanicsburg, Ohio!! I just bought an 87' Royale, and recently found this board, and reading all I can about the bike. I'm really enjoying riding the Venture, I had an 86' Honda Shadow that I rebuilt, and had a blast with, but it was a bit small for me so I sold it and got the Venture. Here are a couple of pics... http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/3975d084.jpg http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/f6bafb2b.jpg I got a good deal on the bike, but it does need some TLC and cleaning, some plastic is cracked or broken and I already repaired the CLASS. I've racked up $700 in new parts and have been slowly putting them on and checking the bike mechanicly as well. I haven't started to clean it up yet as all of my time has been spent wrenching, but it should clean up nicely. It runs really strong, and the previous owner had a bunch of maintenance items done before he sold it. I'm sure I will have tons of questions, and hopefully contribute a bit as well. Later, Briley.
  18. Since I am so new to the Ventures I have to ask even if I sound stupid, should there be movement in the rear brake caliper? I can move it a little bit up and down with my hand it seems to rock on a bolt, I just want to make sure its supposed to do that.
  19. Eileen and I made it home Friday evening from a whirlwind visit to Texas. We spent time with family in Tyler, Longview, Mt. Pleasant, Grand Prairie, Arlington and Granbury. Not near enough time in any one place and spent way too much time driving and not enough time with people that we were way overdue visiting. Now, it had been almost 10 years since I was last home to Texas. During this trip, I met 4 grand kids that I had never met, I met two daughter in laws that I had never met, I met 5 nieces and nephews that I had never met. It was a bit strange, a bit sad, a bit joyous and a bit hectic but overall, was a good trip. I'm sincerely sorry that I was unable to attend the International Rally. From all reports, Leadwolf and team did a fantastic job with it. This is the first one that I've missed and I hated doing so but I only have a limited amount of vacation and visiting family was way overdue. I can't wait so long before going home again. I spent yesterday working on the lawn tractor and managed to put a big gash in my hand and arm first thing yesterday morning but that is fairly typical of what happens when I work on something. Got the tractor repaired though so at least it was a success. Still have luggage in the car that I have to get out today and help Eileen get everything unpacked. Then I have to get my work car organized and hit the road again tomorrow. I feel like I need a vacation to get over my vacation but don't have any remaining time right now. I thank all of you for your understanding and sorry if I've neglected anything here during my time away.

  21. Well he finally made it back to his base. We dropped him off at the airport on sunday. Actually we pretty much threw him out of the truck said a quick goodbye and left. It was a bit of a mad house at the Atlanta airport. So he got to Dubai then had to fly to Kuwait. Some new policy after I made his reservations that said they have to go and come from Kuwait. I figured out why after he got there. You have to pay 15 for a visa and then some more for a few other things. Seems they have a racket going. Anyway then he had to get to Kandahar. That took a bit of time then he got stuck in Kandahar. Finally got to shindand yesterday, but I heard from him today which is their tomorrow. Anyway, he finally made it there. He has 54 days to go. 50 till he leaves Afghanistan then 4 in Kuwait or something like that. Then he heads to Atlanta again and takes their transport back to Benning. After he gets done with that he's mine again. Hopefully the last bit of time will go fast. I guess I should figure out where to get a clock to countdown the days and add it to my signature. Margaret
  22. I swapped a set of carbs on my 96 RSTC today and the bike runs good but it seems to me that it sounds quite a bit different. Is this possible or am I imagining things? I believe that the carbs came off a 97.
  23. Hey All, Since my hunting accident last fall, and third time breaking my back, I have been worried about the weight of the RSV, especially two up. After looking at several models of Yamaha, Harley, Kawasaki, etc. I kept comming back to what Fit me the best, and I felt most comfortable on handling two up. I went to the dark side, a 08 Heritage Softail, 105 year edition, with 1679 miles. I still have the 03 RSV and was able to ride solo to Freebirds MD , so I am getting a bit stronger, but did struggle a few times. I like both bikes, each has their own benifits, but will admit I am still partial to the RSV. Only have the website picture of the 08 Heritage for now. Talk to you all Later-Red Ryder
  24. Hiya again all! Stitch here, heading out on my first real good ride on my new (used) '86 VR, but ran into something today not encountered yet. The CLASS worked once when I tried it and I haven't tried it since until today cause I know I need to do front fork seals next week. Anyway... I put the ign into ACC tonight and the whole darn display lit up (all of the functions illuminated at the same time) and it's "flickering"... checked connections quickly and everything looks good on the back, no error codes, and it hasn't been played with since I bought it except once... I'm and bit baffled. Also if anyone could please e-mail me the link someone sent me last week of a good source for parts i.e. windscreen I would greatly appreciate it (I can't find the thread again...Eeeek!) Well gotta run back out to the garage and see if I can tinker with it a bit and get it figured out while I wait for the real answer from someone... wish me luck! Kelly
  25. Annie we carried you home with us to take you on a bit of a tour. I'll send all the pics I have once I finish taking pics. Muffinman is taking you to Afghanistan oh and Quickstep I think headed to Canada. That is as long as Charlie took him, otherwise he may be kicking back at Don's still. So you are taking separate vacations if you consider Afghanistan a vacation. But you will be well traveled. Thought it might be a bit more fun to continue your trip. Margaret
