  1. LOL....Thanks Steve. I'll have to pass right now, but I still want one in the future. I like the cover I have, but you would be surprised that you can hear it vibrating at hiway speed.
  2. I wanted the Wagner, but wanted it in blue. Anyhow, I ended up with this one
  3. Don't know how long you have lived in TX, but I moved myself, wife and daughter to Louisville (area) Ky 3 years ago after 12 years in Oklahoma. I still miss Oklahoma and the trips to Dallas, but the riding in this part of the USA is pretty good. But be warned, 92 degrees here is NOT a dry heat.
  4. When my father-in-law passed several years ago, it cost us all of $900. Although I am sure price has gone up. That included the funeral home picking up the body at the nursing home and cremation. the funeral director also filed the social security papers for us well as obtaining his flag fromt he VA. Just like lawyers and mechanics, good honest ones can be hard to find.
  5. My first road bike was a VStar 650. I am 6' 1" and 210lbs. There are many time I feel a little cramped on the 650 (still have it, wife rode it, but is for sale now). Not sure what type of "city" riding your hubby will be doing, but my experience is this: the 650 has good acceleration up to about 65 or 70. After that, if you need to roll the throttle quickly, it is slow to respond. Especially if you are 2-up. Also, the stock seat is very uncorfortable for trips over 60 to 70 miles. IMO, the 2 big pluses for the 650 is its light weight and low center of gravity. Being in GA, I would want a liquid cooled engine. I used to ride the 650 in Oklahoma 100 degree temps and would roast my azz off. I agree with the other post about the safety class. Take the class (it will most likely be on a 250) and see how comfortable he is on a bike. Next, if you are looking for a bike to get acclimated to riding then sell in a year, I don't know that I want to buy brand new. You might take a beating when you try to sell it.
  6. I hope your answer to him was, "Our Last!"
  7. I have used T6 for about 15,000 miles now with 30,000 total on the bike. No problems. I use nothing but Wix filters 51358 (NAPA Gold is the same filter). I change every 5,000 miles and oil still looks pretty clean.
  8. great deal you got. Having lived in Glenpool for 12 years and an exmember of the Methodist church in Bixby, I really enjoyed your videos.
  9. Wife decided since she has only ridden a few times in the last 2 years (1000 miles or less) we should sell her bike and use the $$ elsewhere. But she did throw in that she will get another in a few years. I am listing in the VR Classifieds.
  10. I guess I have not lost my hearing yet. I rarely go above 15 in the speakers, even on the interstate at 70 mph. If I have the headset on, it is usually at 12 or 13. What setting do you have on you Auto Volume (AV)?
  11. From white line to wall was probably 8 feet. Bike was 6 feet from white line. May have been more, but really did not pay attention. I don't normally like stopping like that either, but it was one of those very fast, heavy rains. When we got moving again, the road dried out in a mile. Lesson learned.
  12. We all know 90 degress plus high humidity means afternoon thunder boomers. Wife and I were on our way to dinner this evening when we got caught on the interstate in a downpour. We got under an overpass to put on our rain coats. Bike was easily 6 ft from the white line. Getting ready to saddle back up, a car vears across the white line. I yelled for Penny to get out of the way. She later told me she though I said some one had a blow out. At that particular overpass, the concrete did not slope up to the bridge above. It was a wall. I started to run around the wall, just knowing this fool was going to rear end the bike. At about 30 to 40 feet from the bike, he swerved back into his lane. As I watched him go by, it was an old (80ish year old) man and his wife. I think he was having trouble seeing in the heavy rain and was going to pull over and saw the bike at the last minute. Had the flashers on plus the LED strip under the trunk and the LED tail light. Got back on the rode and made it safely and mostly dry.
  13. My first thought would be losing a little traction, but once squared up, if the rear tire was sponning, it should be quite obvious. Good luck with this.
  14. System was never opened up. No discharge, no recharge.
  15. Followup: Being the frugal (my wife says cheap a$$) person I am, I wanted to save my money. After taking the nut off the front of the pulley, the clutch assembly came off in 2 pieces. Supposed to be one piece. Since the ac was working fine before all this, I bought a a rebuilt clutch pulley for $50. I would have rather replaced the entire pulley, clutch and coil, it was going to be a little hard. So, I took the clutch assembly from the new pulley, added new shims, and I got cold air. Turns out the shims were so worn that the clutch plate was rubbing the pulley and and caused the failure.
  16. Not a fan of the 404s at all, but I have to agree that y'all are doing something. Or maybe it's that I am not. I got 13,800 out of my original 404s. Could have gone a bit more, but it was starting to feel squirrelly. I have 17,000 miles now on my E3s and should get another 3000 or 4000 miles. 42 psi in the rear might be a little much. Check the side wall of the tire. I think they are supposed to be 40 psi max. Also, if it has not been mentioned here already, how much air do you have in the rear shock? I run 35psi.
  17. Nice new helmets, Joe. Can't wait to see it and get you thoughts on it compared to the RSV. Ya'll doing a M&E next weekend?
  18. 17,000 miles in 22 months. I've been keeping an eye on them. No cracking yet.
  19. Can't say that I ride A LOT of twisties, but I am at 17,000 on my E3s and they show now signs of wearing flat across the center. I would like to get a lot more mileage out of them, but will probably be replacing them within the next 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I will be putting on another set of E3s.
  20. I put leveling links on my bike within the first 5000 miles. It has been so long, I cannot remember anything other than I thought the bike handled better. And I was more comfortable on it at 6' 1". I have not felt the need to try the 130 front tire. As stated, the streering head bearings may need looking at. For me, I began to get that squirrely feeling in higher speed turns (freeway entrance ramps). After I got rid of the OEM D404 front tire, that went away. I believe it was because of the center tread on the D404.
  21. I had an inexpensive set for a while that I got off Ebay. Then went to the Kur. Duallys with offset. Like them.
  22. For the low price of $129, I'll share my thoughts on making money at home.
  23. Called the shop that did my engine swap. They gave me a price of $471.50 plus tax for a new Delphi compressor and a new accumulator/drier, installed and evaced and recharged. They also offer to install comp and accum that I supply, but will only promise that they are installed correctly and charged properly. I'm thinking the $471 is not a bad price, although I can get a remanned compressor for $100. Their new Deplhi is about $250 or $275.
  24. With all the great knowledge on this site, I am sure some one here can answer my question. The clutch pulley gave out on my truck's AC compressor. With 278,000 miles on the original compressor, I figure better to just replace the compressor rather than put a new clutch pulley on. Warranty info on all the comps. I have looked at say that the accumulator and/or drier has to be replaced also. Up until the pulley gave out, the system blew nice and cold. Aside from warranty issue on the remaned compressor, will the system be compromised and likely to fail if I do not replace the other part(s)?
