1. Good thread. I carry a few of these items, but many more to choose from I hadn't thought about. One item I added was one of these from Harbor Freight. Pretty useful in a pinch. Oh, and don't forget the bailing wire.
2. Going backward in order to go forward! Heh heh, I did like the Segway. But ending the 2nd video w/ Come Sail Away??? Blech! Shoulda been Metallica's Fuel or something like that. Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire. Oooohhh yeahah!
3. I was gonna say Texas too. Economy seems ok there. I was in Dallas a few weeks ago and it seemed to be thriving. Lots of bikes out and about, and you can ride almost year round.
4. Been dabbling with linux too. Win 8 is just horrid. Looks like a dang cell phone.
5. Are there any radio knobs available? Or is there a suitable sub? Knob was missing when I bought the bike. The previous owner said someone liberated it from the bike one day.
6. Love my Sony Bravia too. Many of my personal electronic items are Sony. Hard to beat.
7. I like how it looks, but seems like it would've been easier just to clean up a V-Max.
8. Ok , I appreciate the tips! I know where I can borrow a chunk of flat plate.
9. Can anyone tell me if and how much the cv slides should bounce while the engine is running? If I blip the throttle just a bit, they move quite a bit. Does this indicate a problem? Starting to take the carbs out and apart and man they are dirty!
10. Good on ya! As an ex smoker myself, I can tell you it's the best thing you can do for your health. But you already know that.
11. I'm sure interested! I'm new to the Venture, but not new to riding. However, all my riding has been short, sport touring type, one day out and back at most. I'd be interested in knowing what you take and how you pack it. Do you have a way of carrying drinks and snacks within easy reach? Is it even necessary?
12. Luv it. Well done, respectful, I think.
13. Nice! Beautiful area. Used to go there a lot as a kid. Now I go through on occasion when traveling between OKC and El Paso.
14. The pic with the trailer attached to the Jeep is off the Harbor Freight web site. Lemme look and see if I have any good HF coupons. Edit: Sorry, expired last weekend, nothing new in the inbox
15. I love the Mag lights. Excellent quality for the price. The only reason I've had one go bad is I let the batteries leak. That's a good deal, but I already have both of those items.
16. Here's wishing you better luck than I had. I didn't get a piece of crap, but it does need a lot of TLC (not unexpected).
17. Or use a flavor of Linux. Ubuntu is one of the easiest to use.
18. I just about always have the camera when riding, except to work. Sweet! I'll PM you. On the plus side, the bike came with a genuine Yamaha service manual.
19. What do the progressive springs do for me? Already found some loose bolts on the frame.
20. Also, the left fork seal is blown. Should a bike with this few miles have this many problems? I wonder if the seller pulled a fast one here.
21. Thanks guys, this gives me a good place to start. Head shake is a good way to put it. When I bought it, it had a little over 24K miles, but the bottom of the engine looks like more than 24K. Sometimes hard to tell with a bike though. If I post a pic of the fork brace, maybe you can tell me if it's a super brace? The thermostat housing bolts are snug, but there's a gap in the middle. Should be easy enough to make a load spreader. Good idea.
22. Got my 1990 Venture home today. It will need some tlc, tires, battery, the normal stuff. It also has a leak at the thermostat housing. Why would this leak? One of the worst things is the handling. It has a Dunlop CruiseMax on the front, and an Elite on the rear. When coming to a stop, the whole front end shudders like it has an octagonal shaped tire or something. Whole bike feels just generally wobbly and mushy. A cursory inspection reveals a few loose bolts. So I think I'm gonna strip off the bodywork and tighten EVERYTHING. And maybe some solid or urethane motor mounts. Combing through the forums looking for a plan of attack. Otherwise, I think the Venture and I are going to make lots of memories.
23. Sweetness! Purdy bike. I'm on the way right now to pick one up and hopefully ride it home.
24. The last time I fixed a leaky diaphragm on a CV carb, I used blue gasket grade silicone. I think this was on my 84 Ninja. Paint on a very very thin layer with a modified acid brush. Take the acid brush and cut the hairs to half of its original length. This makes the brush firmer so you can spread the silicone thinner. I also used this method to repair the diaphragm in a lawn mower fuel pump.
