  1. going to a 170/80-15 rear would up the load rating to 83H, but not sure they will fit. load ratings 71 = 761lbs 74 = 827lbs 80 = 992lbs 83 = 1074lbs Total recommended load, bike (869lbs wet) , rider, passenger, and cargo, (419lbs) is 1288lbs.. figuring 60/40 that is 772 on the rear and 515 on the front.. Personally I know I go over that 1288,, I weigh 200+, plus riding gear, so me and the wife with gear on leaves only about 40lbs for cargo. And if you pull a trailer you could easily be putting 850lbs load on the rear tire. The stock Bridgestone rear has a load rating of 74H, so if you go 100lbs over the 419lbs max for two people and cargo you are right at the max load for the stock tire. (the H is actually the speed rating.) H is to 130 mph
  2. Almost: rear 150/90B-15 WWW (wide white wall) 80H load rating and MT90B -16 WWW front 74H load rating. The MT90hb -16 has a higher load rating than the 150/80 -16 71H load rating.. And I think I like the white wall look.
  3. Avon Venoms 150/80-16s are designed for rims 3.00 to 4.00 inches. MT90B16s are designed for rims 2.50 to 3.50 inches.. I don't have my owner's manual handy, but I'm pretty sure the stock front rim is 3.50 inches wide. Just checked the online owner's manual.. front rim is 3.50 inches, rear is 4.00 inches.
  4. Exactly, And like Kit said "Hey all you dummies...listen up!!!" I believe if you are not smart enough to ride alone when the pace gets too fast for your comfort, you're not smart enough to be part of the pack to begin with.
  5. another nice bike the style of the Nomad is the Yamaha V-star 1300 tourer,, that new 1300 V twin watercooled engine is pretty sweet.
  6. Both are very good bikes,, the Nomad compares better to the Royal Star Tour Deluxe.. same bike as the Venture but without the intercom, radio, trunk, and with a Plexi fairing. Price is closer too. Personally I think the RSTD is more comfortable than the Nomad, and the Venture has the same seating position with even better saddle.
  7. I just checked the Pirelli website and I'm not happy with the load rating on the rear MT66, it is only a 74 rating.. the Avon comes in 74 and 80 ratings.. White Wall only 80!! And the Avon MT90B-16 front White Wall is a 74.. I guess I go with Avon white walls!!! Still have to decide if I'm going to pull the tires myself or pay the shop to do it.
  8. I assume you mean the 140/90hb-16 is the stock front? The stock front tire in my manual and on my bike is 150/80-16 And just as more info,, the MT90B-16 front has a slightly higher load capacity than the 150/80-16 But the exact same tire diameter. The dealer here wants almost $400 to mount front and rear, and they told me Avon doesn't make the stock size.. (Not true, the stock sizes are definitely listed on the Avon website) I'm debating on taking the tires off and getting them done at Cycle Gear for a little less and maybe going with the Pirelli MT66 which are considerably less expensive, first I would need a lift that would allow me to take of both tires, one at a time would be fine. Any recommendations? And then, how much trouble is it?
  9. For those down in Daytona still watching the board,, there are severe storms going through Florida today.. they are moving through the West side right now and should be to the East coast around 1PM... Because of this the Tuesday Destination Daytona meet, at the Daytona Pig at 11AM will be Wednesday instead.
  10. Hippy???? What decade did you miss??? worst song, Barnes and Barnes, "Rolly, Polly Fishheads"
  11. It looks like Daytona Pig, (BBQ place at Destination Daytona) 11 AM Tuesday will be some sort of meet. My cousin from Michigan plans to be there on one of his Indians, along with a friend of his that lives in Daytona. A co-worker on his Goldwing said he should be there. And a couple of guys from the sport touring forum I also frequent may make it..
  12. I was considering having a larger patio poured in my back yard, but that looks great, I'll have to consider pavers instead.
  13. first weekend is usually not too bad.
  14. After a little more research I found, the police have also reopened a previous investigation where this same guy supposedly shot into a group of teenagers on his property last year. He said the kids vandalized his mail box but he never shot at them. The kids said they were hanging with his daughters and he started shooting, They said they did knock down his mailbox with their car while they were trying to get away from him after he started shooting. The police found no proof he fired so it was his and his daughter's word against the teens in the car so no charges were filed.
  15. Jeff, Are the pavers cemented down or just laid over fine gravel?
  16. Right!!! http://zfacts.com/p/318.html
  17. Sorry about the semantic confusion.. I'm use to saying static sag and race sag myself, from years racing and playing with dirt bikes. I'm surprised about the Wing, 3" does seem like way too much on a bike that only has 5.5" of total travel. Does that Honda have air adjustments on the fork?
  18. OK my official plans for food are 10am Monday Cracker Barrel, (across the street from the speedway) 11am,, Tuesday at the BBQ place at Destination Daytona, 11am Wednesday at Cancun Lagoon, right at the East end of the speedway. Hopefully we can get a group together at least one of those times. Anyone have better ideas let me know.
  19. I'm sure I read somewhere they quoted 50% But anyway, on page 18 of the last link,, with their it varies from year to year from 34% to 44% mostly around 40% by their study.
  20. Battery is losing charge, probably still usable but I got another one.. Per the dealer, the battery is not part of the 5 year, but has its own warranty, 1 year. And that was up two weeks ago!!! Oh well.. I got a Dura Boost brand.. my only choices locally were Yusa, Dura Boost or what ever Wal-mart sells.
  21. I understand what you are talking about, but I still do not see why static sag is important on a touring bike. On a race machine static sag should be approximately 10% of total travel, and loaded sag with rider in full gear should be 30 to 33% of total travel. But on race bikes the rider and his gear has much more effect on the total so I would have to assume that static sag would be much closer to loaded sag on normal street bikes and even more so on a touring bike. It would seem to me the two important indications on a touring bike would be loaded sag around 30 to 33% and when riding on the roughest normal conditions the suspension is using almost all of it's travel.
  22. So is anyone in for Wed 11am Cancun Lagoon for lunch???? East end of the track! Or anywhere else not more than 30 miles from the track,, Come on, I want a Wednesday meet!!! Actually I wouldn't mind meets Tues, Wed, and Thrusday!!!! I gotta eat!!!!

  24. This is just an updated version of the same flawed study IIHS did in the 70s where they classify motorcycles "superbikes" not by their performance but by their accident rate.. They classify the V-twin Suzuki SV650 and the Ninja 250 superbikes because they have a high accident rate. They happen to be popular starter bikes and have high accident rates because of the large number of inexperienced riders that have them. Fact is, from police studies, 50% of all motorcycle fatalities there was alcohol involved. And most over 40 new riders are not on "Superbikes" but large cruisers, and they make up as many fatalities as the younger "Superbike" crowd. And on another note,, why did the motorcycle fatalities in Virgina go up 73% from 06 to 07 and in Nebraska they went down 25% from 06 to 07?
  25. How about a couple of early lunch meets before everyone heads off to do whatever they are doing. Say 11am,, Tuesday at the BBQ place at Destination Daytona, Shouldn't be too packed then, like it will be at the end of the week. And maybe the same time Wednesday at Cancun Lagoon, right at the East end of the speedway.
