  1. yes, I saw that writeup also ... in fact, they've recently posted signs around Banff for campers and hikers to be on the lookout for these particular bear droppings. When found, the signs say, one must immediately throw away the pepper spray, the jingle bells, and douse themselves with perfume.... then, when a bear is encountered, walk right up to it and say "hello"... :rotf:
  2. Around Banff you're more likely to encounter a bear if you're out hiking or camping somewhere away from designated camping areas. That is not to say a bear won't show up in the campgrounds tho so, take common sense precautions (I know, for some that doesn't apply coz they know nothing about bears) ... As mentioned, DO NOT keep food inside your tent. DO NOT eat close to your tent and leave food items of any sort anywhere near your tent. Take a rope and a "gunny sack" or some strong bag, put your food items in it, tie it to the rope and hang it from a tree...way up high and away from the tent. Have a can of pepper spray (bear repellant) on hand. If you go hiking, take a loud whistle and carry some "jingle bells" ... hook them to your wrist or leg and be very watchful and don't forget the bear repellant. Oh yea... don't wear deodorant, perfume, etc when in bear country...in fact, the stinkier (human smells) you are, the better LOL Depending on the time of year, you're more likely to encounter Elk ... stay away from those beasts!
  3. Crap!!! these 2nd gen's have carbs on them??????
  4. Don't know if this has been raised before but... I'm wondering how the insurance companies would view the situation if someone had an accident and it was in some way associated to the car tire. Seems to me they'd disallow a claim due to improper tires....?? Just curious.
  5. Here's mine ... color is Metallic Black ... got the code from a 77 dodge of all places! Paint code is PX8

  9. Nice car ... but ... I have a "thing" about spoilers on cars ... to me they look absolutely ridiculous and serve no purpose whatsoever on a "daily driver" (IMHO). sorry ... but I do like the car Now, if they'd had spoilers back in the day of the '59 chevvy... LOL (those in the know would remember the rear ends of those cars lifting off at high speed)
  10. My wife's mom is 86. We've told her several times that one of these days, I will take her for a ride. She lives many miles from us and the only times we've gotten to see her is at Christmas ... of course, the weather isn't appropriate. She keeps saying that one of these days either she'll come here in the summer or we'll get out there and then she'll go for a ride. I only hope that opportunity comes along before it's too late.

  18. I recall a time, several years ago, when Saskatchewan govn't was offering land for something like a dollar...just to get people to move there. In 1990 or maybe it was 1989... whatevah LOL ... my nephew lived in Calgary, Alberta as so did I. He had a 1/2 duplex ... nothing fancy..not very big, 3 bedrooms...a bit of a front and back yard. He and his wife and kids moved to Saskatoon..they sold the duplex in Calgary for $84,000 ... and bought a really nice 4 bedroom split level single family home with a basement, double car garage, big lot, in-ground sprinkler system....for $70,000 ! Sheesh! He said.."c'mon Uncle Rick... move out here" ... but yanno, Calgary was as close to the prairies as I EVER want to get and I didn't like it there either. My hat's off to those who choose to live in such places .... I couldn't do it.
  19. good plan Brian... I bet it kinda sucks towin a bike all over the place....
  20. Fortunately it hasn't hit us...yet... but the company my wife works for (a job placement co) is certainly suffering ... they shut down two branches today and I found out the other day that a couple of the contracts that my workplace has will not be renewed this year. Still have enuf tho to keep me going for a few more years tho.
  21. No plans for this year other than Kruisin in the Kootenays. Money's tight this year as I'm starting to collect my Canada Pension in June and to qualify, I have to quit working for one month (and have no income) so that will consume any savings. Once the pension starts coming in, it goes towards paying for the new scoot. Until then, I've been supporting the payments out of savings. Ask this question again next year and I'll have something better
