  1. If it's not a switch problem, then it's likely a cable problem. My PO had disconnected the cable from the 4 way union(under the tank). I had to reconnect and re-adjust to get it all working again. Theres also the vacuum compressor (right lower?) and the actuator(left lower?) that could be problems. BTW: the clymers manual has all the info on running the tests which should point you in the right direction.
  2. You want to us MT90B16H as oppsoed to 130. MT90 has higher weight capacity.
  3. Put the Lower back on. I had same issue when working on cruise. Went for a test ride wothout the left lower and had the issue you desribe. Thought I had screwed something up. WAY too much airflow and that leans it way out and it starves itself at speed.
  4. +1 on the HD pipes. I just switched over and at first I was gonna take them off and do a stage 1 mod, but after riding them for a while I've decided to leave them alone. A bit of a deep rumble at idle and plenty loud enough for me at speed. I had V&H long shots on my Roadstar. Can't beleive anyone would ride behind me in those days. -lol
  5. I've done it once in both directions(and I live in NC). Nice that I can say I did it, but if I never did it again it wouldn't bother me. However, that area does have some of the best, and most enjoyable riding to be found anywhere. Rt 28 (a section formerly called Hellbender, now called Moonshiner), Cherohala Skyway, and many other great roads. If you are going to ride the Dragon try to plan it for a weekday(see "too busy" below). The day we were there, there was a mustang club on it and we counted no less than 54 Mustangs(ALL YELLOW!?) come by Deals Gap in a continuos group + a few red and black ones at the end(the black sheep?) and that was a friday. Also the LEO's(especially on the TN side) will write you up for speeding and crossing the yellow line. Saw 2 riders get tickets in the 2hr we were there. sp!ke
  6. 2 things to add: Try not to overuse rear brakes downhill. Too much heat and they stop working. Shed speed with fronts while straight and upright. Going into a tight radius turn where by it's nature you cannot see the other side, it's very easy to assume that it has a constant radius. There are plenty of examples (The Dragon, The Snake, etc... come to mind) where some of the turns have a diminishing radius. IE: the turn gets tighter as you get into it further. If you're already leaned into it hard it'll make you pucker up a bit when you realize whats coming at you (and fast!) The rule I try to always use is: unless you know EXACTLY what is coming next from having ridden it alot, leave plenty of room for error. sp!ke
  7. Now there's a little tidbit I didn't know. Worth $12 (and maybe my life) all day long. Thanks, sp!ke
  8. Figured that flushing and reloading w/ fresh fluid would be my 1st step. Not sure on the DOT5 tho, IIRC the cover and/or Yam Manual or Clymers maybe says not to use anything above DOT4?
  9. Just got back from a trip and on one of the legs I did the math. 188mi / 4.165gal. appx 45mpg. That leg was mostly back roads w/ some average twisty/sweepers. 55mph and below. My RSV is stock except for RK pipes and K&N filters. Also I have punched the filler neck so I start with the same amount of gas at every fill-up. sp!ke
  10. For the second time in a month now, riding some twisty's, I've lost my rear brakes. They come right back as soon as I stop (or stop using them). Only happens/happened on downhill twisties. I've been riding twisties for a while now and consider myself fairly competent at it. I have ridden twisties on this bike before and not had any issue. I tend to use front and back in combination to shed speed getting set-up for a turn and then a bit of trailing rear brake into the beginning of a turn as needed. Pretty sure my technique hasn't changed in the last 2 months (hit some twisties hard about 2 mo's ago with no issues) so looking for suggestions on where to start looking. Pads are about 50% life left. Have not changed the fluid since getting this bike. sp!ke

    Do you...

No reception in a tunnel. All bets are off. sp!ke

"I'm never lost as long as I have gas in the tank" -lol Getting a GPS to do what you want it to, and the way you want it to, is a bit more art than science. I have found that when it does something bad to me it's usually due to a problem with "the nut behind the keyboard". The 660 should have avoid unpaved, and then it's down to fastest vs. shortest in combination with avoid highways. Lots of permutations in just those 3 choices. sp!ke
  13. Are you using the PTT button when you want to talk on the intercom? If the CB were turned on and you hit the PTT, then, and only then, would the radio be muted. (on a stock system). Bad thing there would be that anybody on a nearby CB on the same channel would hear your conversation. sp!ke
  14. Problem is that it gets real expensive real fast finding out if the dealer you are using is a "good one" , or not. I have paid my dues in that respect long ago and will avoid the dealer at all costs unless I don't have a choice or for warranty work. Last time I had warranty work done I got the bike back missing 2 motor mount bolts. Dealer argued with me, "maybe they fell out before the warranty work, etc...". I had to get politely nasty to get him to order 2 new bolts. (about $6 his cost) Luckily I am capable of and have all the necessary tools to do my own work, so far. Sites like this are invaluable when it comes to the knowledge base and helpfullness of it's members. Well worth the $12/yr.
  15. By "cannot close" assume you mean it won't stay closed? Mine did that when I bought my RSV from the PO. I took the whole thing(the entire cassette housing from inside the fairing) out and cleaned and lubricated the mechanism. Originally I thought I was missing the spring on one side but seem to have decided it only has 1 spring, on the left side IIRC. Try some wd-40 in and around where the spring lives and see if that helps. sp!ke
  16. I just had mine off. If you are careful not only will you not need new ones but you can reapply them and have them stick pretty good. Before I got the first one off I thought it was just a flat piece of vinyl. It is actually a formed (injection molded?) piece that has some good heft to it and as long as you are careful it shouldn't tear, rip or get deformed. I will likely redo the sticky stuff at some point but for now they are stuck back on pretty good with the glue that they started with. Rode about 200miles today and no issues. IE: They were still there when I got back -LOL sp!ke
  17. Thats a nice looking seat with the velour. Have you been doing the velour all along? I have a russell and can't say enough good about it. "day long" is the right name. Mine came with the bike from PO. Can't imagine ever needing 10 of them tho. sp!ke
  18. The last one had me rolling on the floor. (not THAT funny but I've had a couple beers and I'm a happy drunk) for #5 I think it musta been fung shway. Just one woulda looked outa balance.
  19. Could be wrong(it almost happened once -lol) but the AV setting is speed related. AV-5 adjusts up a notch every 10mph or so starting around 20mph.
  20. Ooops, meant to say Des Moines. Prolly about 300mi to Des Moines? I need to go back to HS Geography -lol
  21. Iowa City would be the closest. There are more stores coming online over the next 12 to 24 in the central/midwest (as long as the economy holds?). DAMHIKT. sp!ke
  22. Thats a good price. Discount Tire carries this tire but they get $82 + tax. Cost me $89 for mine. BTW: Mine took ~95lbs to seat. A bit scary if i do say. To make it less scary I added a clip on inflator head & 25 ft of hose and stood inside the garage while the tire was outside the garage. Then I just hit the button and waited to hear 2 "pops". Lots of "goo". I used KY. When you go for your first ride it's gonna feel a bit "strange". Loosey Goosey if you will. Give it a couple hundred miles and you won't even notice it anymore. sp!ke
  23. My personalized plate is $53. Yours should be the same. When your trailer reg comes due you can do a onetime lifetime(as long as you own it) for around $80(I think?) As for taxes sucking in Carolina try living in New England for a while. Cost of Living down here is WAY less $. My RE taxes in 2007 up there were almost $6000. sp!ke
  24. Just did rt66 yesterday. very nice. continued to Meadows of Dan, BRP(north) to RT8 and back down. My arms and everything else were tired -lol
  25. I have no familiarity with the HF trailer. I got mine from Northern Tool. Likely they all come out of the same Chinese factory. There are 2 mounting locations for the tongue. The forward location should give you the correct length.
