click on the state at the top of each picture and it will take you to the link. I guess it did that because I pasted the links into the message. Bob

I finally got some pics on the web of our trip out west. I have them broken down by states. The beginning pics are of Minnesota and Wisc. We stopped for a couple of days in South Dakota the MTA bike rally there. Pics of Rushmore, Crazy horse and some of the other sites were taken on a day tour in a van. From there we rode west till we got to the coast. Way too much beauty to take in all in one trip. We totaled around 7100 miles and it was worth every one of them to see the places we saw. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rjd_/sets/72157621448138805/show/]Minnesota, Wisc and South Dakota[/ame]. Montana is a beautiful state but we pretty much were just passing through. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rjd_/sets/72157621908822994/show/]Montana[/ame] Idaho is beautiful... We stayed in what they call the high desert. Not much grass and trees in those parts but following the rivers through there was great. You will see a lot of different kinds of country. The mountains and the glacier fed lakes are beyond belief. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rjd_/sets/72157621911681720/show/]Idaho[/ame] Oregon is a gem. We stayed in an Inn on the Snake River. You will see the pictures of all the handmade things in the gardens and around this ladies yard. All done by local Artists. From the mountains, rivers and then to the coast. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rjd_/sets/72157621787434253/show/]Oregon[/ame] California... what can I say. We rode one of the curviest roads I have ever been on. That would be Rt. 1 on the coast. The ocean, the redwoods, Napa Valley are all worth seeing. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rjd_/sets/72157621803843753/show/]California[/ame] Just click on each state and you should see a slideshow. I haven't uploaded Washington. I will have to do that soon. If any of the links do not work let me know. Bob

are great... they are not oversized but great for coffee in the morning and they would still have ice the next morning provided the weather was not blistering hot. If Don would order them again I know a few people who would like to have them. We just rode 7100 miles in weather as cool as 37 and as warm as 104 and they worked a lot better than any other kind of cups we used. Bob

I think my rear shock has failed
RJD replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I your shock goes totally out you may find a puddle of oil under the bike. Loosing some air is a problem but if you find the oil then look into another one. With no oil it will bounce up and down like a pogo stick going down the road and you have no way to damper that. It will affect they handling. Bob -
my wife and I rode the Skyline and the Parkway from end to end. We took 3 days to ride it and enjoyed it very much. Bob

Becky and I have 3 and they are all from very special friends. They have more power when received from a friend. Bob

I have never been real happy with the way my clutch worked. I am getting ready for a 7000 mile trip so I order and installed a rebuild kit for the master cylinder. It shifts better and the clutch starts to engage sooner than before. Also the lever returns all the way out now where as before it wouldn't. Of course it has all new fluid as part of the process but I usually change the fluid yearly and changing the fluid did not make that much difference in the past.

The molded rubber piece is just attached with sticky tape. peal the rubber loose and move it back under the trunk a little further. The new holes do not have nuts attached so It looks like little longer bolts and some nuts will be needed. I am going to use some 3m tape to attack the rubber to the bottom of the trunk. I think it will make sense once you have a chance to look at it. Bob

I unbolted the trunk on our "02" RSV thinking I would just move it back to another set of holes. The holes are there but when you move it back it sits on the rubber piece that is molded around the bottom of the trunk. Has anyone actually moved their trunk back on the second gen bikes? Bob

If we plan on 12:00 that should give us the whole afternoon to work on them. Making a note to bring carb cleaner. bob

I will do the work with a little guidance and I will also be setting up the ride on Saturday afternoon. Of coarse last time I led this group we ran into 3 road closings and we all had to turn around. I expect more bikes this time so hopefully we don't have any detours or closings. I would like to make one suggestion, if you have a GPS, you should mark your hotel location when you arrive. Last time we had folks going in different directions after the ride and some left the ride early. this will help you get back on your own.

on Friday I would be interested in doing the floats on my bike. I have the bike up now with the wheels off and I am going to grease everything now and do a few other things. I was going to wait for Don to help with the floats but that would be great of we can do it then. Bob

One thing my wife tells all the kids.... "I don't care what you do the rest of the year, but everyone has to come home on Christmas." We end up with kids, their husbands, wives and friends, grand kids and 3 or 4 large dogs. It is wonderful!

to be competive with the Clearview. These shields are made of a polycarbonate material. This is their claim to fame as far as "no scratching". They liked the round vents when they saw them. Obviously they have made no decision as far as putting them in or not and as Don said, they have the Goldwing vent. I also know they set up at many bike events through the year and have people available at some of them to install the other shields they sell. They can advise everyone when, where and if installation will be available. I want to be careful not to claim they are going to do something they may not plan to do. I just know they do some installation at the shows they attend and they have seen the round vents in the stock windshield. Bob

2 gen clutch release cylinder r&r
RJD replied to gunboat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am wondering what problem you are having. Bob -
coming out of park headed north just before Gatlinburg. This was a couple of years ago. My daughter had never seen a live one. He suprised me too. I have seen them out west but didn't know they had been introduced to that area. Bob

you may only need to fill the clear coat. You may be able to do that by sand with very fine paper, spray with clear coat, sand again and spray again. Repeat till the scratch is smooth buff and wax. Bob

we will probably end up buying our algae from China because they can grow it cheaper or because our refineries can't keep up with production or there is a shortage of additives or.... let's see what other lame excuses we can come up with to keep the American public from having cheaper fuel and energy. and lets see now, cheaper fuel means more room for taxes. Oh yea, lets tax the companys making the fuel because they created competition for the oil companys and it wouldn't be fair for them not to make billions of dollars. Bob

I would like to see it some place in the Dakotas or even in southern Idaho. That would fit into our plans for next years vacation. We are planning a trip from Ohio and ending on the West Coast. Bob

Don, the atm is not working. It usually gives me a couple of hundred dollars when I ask for it. Maybe you didn't fill it after the upgrade. Bob

As I remember there was a cooling off period which involved the pond with clothes and boots. Put that on your list of things to do.

we rode an 86 just like that before we bought the midnight. I loved that bike and kind of wish we still had it. You will grow to like it as much. bob

I especially like taking mine along when riding with a group. I will often take it to dinner and we bring the chips from our cameras and check out what kind of day we have had. It aways brings a lot of laughs and oohs and aahs to the table. We usually have people from the tables around us joining in also. Bob
