I should know better than trying to get one past this group!

I do not understand spending the money on the Screamn' Eagle upgrades. Guess if you just have to have that bigger engine and more horsepower.... I am perfectly happy with a bike that hits freeway speeds easily. Never been one to try to beat the guy next to me off the line. I can promise you, you will beat me to the next stop light, no need to spend the extra bucks on the larger engine.

Oh, I don't know - maybe something that says "worlds greatest bike"?

Any word if 2009 Venturer will be EFI?
nelsonrl replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, the guy at the grocery store said that his third cousin knew someone who's ex-sister-in-law knew someone who used to ride a bicycle to work and they said yes, it would definitelly have EFI or carbs - one or the other. -
Good excuse to sell it and buy that Ultra you've always wanted. :-)

Austin Texas - close enough to the Texas Hill country for some great hill country rides and 6th street for entertainment. And you might see a bat or two under the Congress Ave. bridge in the evenings. BTW, am I eligible to submit a vote, you know being the black sheep and all.

Well, we will know on the 22nd. Harley announces the 2009s then.

I love my wife but she can be so..................
nelsonrl replied to Just-Jack's topic in Watering Hole
My wife went through this earlier in the year. Good as new now, but the recovery did take longer than either of us expected. I mean, it was just a couple of very small incisions, how bad could it be? Guess cutting parts out is just not natural. Good luck on the recovery. Glad she caught it before they burst. -
Mistake buying a Venture?

Every brand bike has problems, Every brand bike has very good points. You all know what I ride and you even allow me to post here still - amazing isn't it? I have owned a car that I made the manufacturer buy back after 6 months. Guess what, I bought a different model from the same company. Will you have a problem or two? Sure, but thats just like with a mechanical device. I have never owned an RSV, but from what I read here its a fine bike with a few quirks Yamaha should address. Problem with forums and email is thats its hard to see the body language people use when talking. Things are taken in a completely different way than they would have been if the conversation had been held f2f. In my humble opinion, there will be more and more posts where good natured ribbing is taken the wrong way the larger this community gets, just the nature of 5000 people in the same family getting together, things taken the wrong way, things said in jest when they should not have been said (at least at the time they were said), etc. Chris (Trainwreck68) welcome to the forum, stick around, I think you will like this place. -
Interesting report on the local news tonight - seems that people are questioning if the new hybrid gas/electric cars are safe. The point they were bringing up was that when the cars were in electric mode they were to quite and people couldn't hear them!

Not sure what the penalties are, or potentially could be but my pipes are not that loud. Just a nice rumble. That said, they are stamped "not legal for street use" on the pipes. This are after market slash cut Screamin' Eagle pipes. Like I said, not real loud, baffles still in them and the neighbors do not complain when I drive down the street, but not street legal since EPA testing was not done. More of the Motor company protecting themselves than anything else I think. I did have a neighbor that had the baffles removed - everyone in the neighbor cheered when he moved. Loud pipes are annoying to many, accepted by few (not counting those who have loud pipes), personally I am not overly bothered by them - unless they wake me up from my afternoon nap. My feeling is if we do not police ourselves more and more cities will pass laws such as those in Denver and other places.

ok, I will add a comment from the dark side. The Harley line, Road King, Even the Ultra or Electra Glides are heavy bikes, but very well balanced with a low center of gravity. My Ultra is much easier to handle than the smaller Nomad.

I have not used ubuntu, but have used several versions of UNIX in my career, including AIX, SUN OS, SUN Solaris, HPUX, Redhat and others. I prefer almost any version UNIX to windows, but there is a much stronger need for systems admin skills with any UNIX version. Things like configuring network connections, adding devices such as printers, scanners, etc will be more complex. You may find issues with device drivers if you migrate. I run Windows XP on two home computers and Vista on one. Hate Vista, tolerate XP, would prefer Linux on all, but device drivers and business apps keep me from changing.

Thank you - I miss some of the old UNIX commands like grep and a wildcard command line "find" command. Would like to move to Linux, but business apps will not allow it.

green puddle.........

I think I would take your poodle to the vet, green puddles are not normal. -
Guess my problem was that I just wasn't in the mood to argue the days I was looking. Hard not to do when you are buying a car or motorcycle. I call them all - most did not have an RSV and the ones that did just flat out said no. Told them I was serious, but not without a ride. They basically told me to bad they could sell to someone else. I called both of the dealers you listed. I have no problem with their policy, as long as they do not have a problem with mine - no demo, no purchase.
-
When I was looking, I could demo'ed a new BMW, Goldwing and an Ultra Classic. Could not find a dealer in Dallas that would allow a ride on an RSV. Couple of dealers had them, but no rides. BMW dealer gave me the keys and told me to be back before closing. Honda Dealer did the same. HD dealer had the salesman ride along side me on another bike over a 10-15 mile route that include about all kinds of road conditions. A couple of people on the site volunteered to let me ride theirs which I very much appreciated. To ride the HD, I had to show proof of motorcycle insurance and a license. Same at Honda, just a license at BMW. I did have to sign waivers at all dealers. I am honestly not sure I would ever buy a bike I could not ride first. Kind of like a car, I want to see how it fits me.

You know, I do not think I have every heard the words "silent" and "17 girls" used in the same paragraph before.
