  1. I can check the thickness of the stator cover tonight with my digital meter. Still got a spare.
  2. BikeBandit, and MrCycles should have the gaskets for 10$s. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1990-yamaha-venture-royale-xvz13da/o/m146609#sch127150 10.85 http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=15269&category=Motorcycles&make=YAMAHA&year=1990&fveh=385 8.28 Both are #2
  3. A guy was trying to bust open my trunk on the Lady once. Right in view of a freaking surveillance camera, thirty feet from the front doors of the mall... don't know what he was thinkin. Check where your bike was parked, should be "a" camera that covered it.
  4. Legal in ca. Sent from my BlackBerry 9810 using Tapatalk
  5. Going over 100 mph is not a "split second decision" that is wanton disregard for yourself, and others, oh and your own insurance policy which may or may not cover you in the event of a accident like that. A friend of a friend got into a accident on HW 99 here in Cali. Poor sod was doing 132 when a car clipped him. He survived, though when I went to see him in the hospital he was out like a light, but stable. Me and his girlfriend got to talking, and I found out. Geico was refusing to cover him. He was riding in a very unsafe manner, especially for someone who submitted a recent MSF ERC card. He's doing OK now. Rides a V-Star 1300 Tourer, he doesn't speed anymore, makes himself extra safe, etc. During summer he's never without a mesh jacket and overpants with CE foam, and a full face helmet. Still owes me for a job... damn bugger.
  6. Take the FJR, the Wings great, but she's got less lean than the FJR. That and I think the FJR gets better mpg than the Wing, my dads Wing on ever gets 33 or so. Sometimes 35. Far cry for the off the floor 43 MPG! Though if you still want a wing, stick to the 06-11. 12 I think--if I read everything CORRECTLY--just got costmetic upgrades, and a few things moved around, but nothing shattering. Though I'm thinking Concours myself, they offer a bigger trunk
  7. The Honda Silverwing was a blast for a while >.>
  8. Yea... my rides to work are thrilling. Makes me wonder how these people passed their drivers test. HW 198->Avenal Cutoff
  9. Everything sealed right? Engine operates under vacuum. Cracks cause lots of problems, check your intake boots under the carbs, see if their OK.
  10. Seems that quote session got buggered... copy and paste job now. Hey Earl, thanks, I'll give that a try... though we might have a problem with one of the carbs, as the drain tube, my dad busted that off a long time ago (I think it was back in 96... sounds about right, all that loud cursin' in the backroom) Where should I get SeaFoam? and could THAT be why we've been seeing scuffing and abnormal wear on the slides? I noticed that multiple times recently, which is why I think the slide also happens to have screwed up. As for the plug wires, yea, thats been on my mind every time I go at the engine. I think I last saw a batch for 30$s for four wires boots, and rubbers. Found em again. NGK ones on Ebay, wonder if I can just unscrew each spark plug cable and rebuild it without removing everything....
  11. well... me and my dad had a pow wow as we stood around the Venture. I started her up just a while ago, she did the same thing she did at Taco Bell. But when she DID get started, all four sparks were going. but to do the starter fluid, I need to FIND it, so I go inside to turn our overhead lights on. I go do that. Takes me 20-30 seconds. I got back out and I notice... shes firing three again. I can't find our flamable sprays... but I'm standing there, my dads point blank telling me, he's never really overhauled the carbs. And then he does bring up the carb cleaner did eat up those diaphrams.. So I probably really just got a carb problem, and one of them is flooding one of the cylinders. Which makes sense. and well. Syncing those carbs IS a B**** as they don't really sync, they get CLOSE, and thats it... Just to cover a base... Anyone know who can rebuild these carbs? Or better... need just new diaphrams, and SLIDERS... which would be correct... those things we've been getting get eaten alive in my carbs. I'll head to BuckEye Performance and ask for a quote on some new intakes... after I've found some sparky stuff. Riding the Wing tomorrow... Going to start paying my dad for the VS650, so I can have it as a backup. I'm gonna start a check list now... of what other stuff should I be checking, and fixing to make sure the bike works! @Calgaryrider: Under the trunk is where we're gonna put the new one. We're using the OEM which is OK.Not great, lol.
  12. and it seems... I'm firing on three cylinders, vs 4. And had problems starting the bike after getting fast food, finally got it to start. But I smelled a heap of gas, and I noticed she wasn't firing clean. The Sound of four - 1 firing, went away revving up. But whole time... she sounded off. Makes me wish I didn't work on the week days..... Let me better acurate: Coming back, she was okay... the problems stated in OP when that happened. Synced the carbs when I got home. Left the house at 6:00 and it was looking good. Left at 7:30 to Taco Bell... noticed a slight tone, tone of concern for me. Parked it in the taco bell lot, and went inside. Come out, push the starter, nothing Four pushes, nothing. Five push, fires up but I'm smelling gas and I had to REV it good to get it actually GOING and to get up, had to actually rev it a bit to idle good. From there, 1st gear feels like 2nd. List of items replaced currently: Stator (HC from Skydoc) Pickup Coil (RSV 2000 Pickup) Throttle cables TCI, is now Ignitech TCI V88
  13. Well, fork seals... non issue... those will be fixed in time... just need to make sure I got oil with me. But... heres current... pressing issue, current today. Bike idles fine. she'll idle 900-1000K ok. After getting warmed up tho, really well... the idle likes to stick high, 2K area. Today she stuck at 2500, I turn the engine off, turn the engine back on, she starts up and idles around 1, 1.2K What gives? Also happen to get crappier MPG now -.-' 29-31... before it was 35 average right up until we had to garage her this year. We've replaced the caps. I got cracked intake manifolds tho... I can probably clean the K&N AF. Could it be the Ignitech TCI?
  14. I'll pay up when I can 1. I was riding home after a job, I was coming off the highway, and all was good. I come to the stop sign, I look, and make my left turn. Not far away is another stop sign, no biggy, done this HUNDREDS of time. I come to a stop..... and the rear tire slips. That was my first experience that for some odd reason, despite gravity, Lady Blue fights like hell because it was all slow, and steady going down on the right side. I was fine, just laughing, and thinking, "great, come on now, the sooner we get you up the better" Well. I tried. And failed, it took some fine brave young women to help me up. That was early 2011, just started riding the Venture after the 650's driveshaft shredded up. Looking back, wish I got some numbers and had taken out to dinner. Hahaha. ah well. 2. I was parked. 1st gear, 1st gear because where I was parked it dipped in quite a bit. and well, I also happened to have parked "inward" officer wouldn't let me turn her around. So, I'm getting off, and I did not let her set into 1st, she slipped off of the kickstand and fell to the left. My leg was hurting all day....
  15. ouch, heh, I've done that when I was first starting out. I didn't think much of it on the 650, yea it fell over, nothing broke. But yet... somehow... on the way back from my shopping, I get ready to go, I put my foot on the left peg and it pops off. Riding home was awesome. January 17th 2008
  16. That does look pretty easy, little modification to current headlight mount, yea. Though that'll leave me with really needing aux lights to light up the left and right sides of the road. We don't get big animals out here in the valley, we get the small stuff, little extra warning that theirs a squirrel running across the road would help I've hit one on the VS650, it was not fun, not at all. I can re run wires if necessary, especially different gauge wire.
  17. I just found dozens of LED headlamps for metric anyhow, but I don't have a round headlight, its a box lol. I'd have to make it round.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Make it round and still look good.
  18. Sigh, now that you brought it up, man. those are nice LED headlights! but they all are a 7" round head lamp. Well they make it sound like it'll ship with a 7" headlamp. LOL. mmm... well if I can get a hold of those leds... maybe I can make a new headlamp....
  19. I want to start riding at night again, and the headlight on the Lady Blue just isn't enough. So I've seen my options: Upgrade to a new headlight bulb. I was thinking PIAA's H4's, or a Silverstar Ultra. Aux Lights: Who to buy from, what kind? ya know? I need ones that provide optimum visuals, and be fully capable of supporting my headlights light cast. Upgrade to HID: Who to buy from? what type? Theres lots of different types of Aux lights, fog lights, hid brands... -.-'
  20. I think Tourmasters "Flex" pants are like the Flex jacket that is, its a mesh OP with a waterproof shell on top, and a insulator liner on the opposite side of the mesh. That'd work great. But actually, any mesh OP with the padding would work. My OPs happen to be FirstGears HT's and they not awesome in the summer... at...all.... Good place to shop: http://www.motorcyclegear.com/ Great people, reminds me of newegg.
  21. Thanks guys. Alright now its time to save up to buy the rebuild kit from BuckEye performance. In the mean time... I'll balance those carbs of mine. Boy am I running RICH 29.5 MPG just doing it nice and easy.
  22. Bike broke down. Needed help, found the Venture Riders last year, but didn't have money to do anything to join, then found the Venturers, then well here I am on both sites. and well, if you see a John Midnight around. Flip a few coins, and it might be me
  23. sigh... 4.22/Gal here in lovely south central california.... was 4.11 the last time I was at that Shell station on TUESDAY this week.
  24. Now... I've got the parts I should replace (courtesy of Venturers tech page... hehe..) but I noticed a step I cannot do. On my YVR 90 I cannot seem to--with the CLASS control panel) reduce PSI to 0--of course on manual. It will at best decrease to 6, and even then the system pumps a extra psi in. Their another manual way? Or is it because I'm not really off the ground on the center stand?
