My girlfriend actually fell asleep on the rear seat as I heading down the road about 55mph. ha ha No complaints from her about the ride on a venture. She loves the rear back support on the rear seat and the overall sound system. DanC:cool10:
  2. You would not check the oil dip stick in your car or truck on a incline to get a true reading, so the same applies to a motorcycle. ie: LEVEL = Good Reading. DanC:cool10:
  3. Wally, I have a 2008 Royal star Venture and I also had the same problem with the same tube as you were noting. In tracking out the tube it went to the Carbs area and Goose'e explaination tells it all very correctly. Check your oil and if you have to remove some, they do make a small DC motor for removing oil in the pan on Cars, boats and etc if you want to keep it from being toooooo messy. No more than 3.5 Qts with a oil change and filter. That should put the oil in the sight glass at the proper level. About 1/2 way up on the sight glass when the bike is setting up right/straight. Good Question from you concerning this problem and we can all see that its a common problem with the Venture Engine Design. Nothing to worry about. Think about it, HARLEY's have been leaking for years and years and look where they have come!! ha ha I am only kidding all you Harley people!! ha ha Go easy on me!!! GULP!!!!! DanC
  4. Take a look at my post, Title: "Inexpensive Rear Lighting" as you may like the way it looks in the rear, "See attached photo". Very inexpensive to get it that way and you WILL be seen from the rear. I, like you, was not happy with just the single rear light and reflectors. Nice bike you have there and you want to keep it nice. I fully understand the need for more lighting in the rear. DanC
  5. You can blow out your seals in a heart beat if you are not extremely careful. DanC:whistling:
  6. that is clearly a "Battery Problem" I am almost certain. Start with the battery and have it tested. Then check all connections for good contact. I really feel that its the battery. Charge it and try again. I would have it tested for load just to be sure that the battery will not let you down in the near future. Load test it. DanC
  7. Its more than likely spliced into the existing electrical system which goes through the ignition switch. Not Good. DanC
  8. Just wanted to let everyone know that Harley Davidson makes a hand pump for airing up the suspension system on the Venture. It allows removal of the air fitting without loosing the selected air pressure within:cool10: the shock. It also has a flexible hose which helps in connecting the pump to the air valve on the shock. Item: Touring Suspension Air pump Part#: 54630-03A Cost: 49.95 air adjust: 0 through 60lbs.
  9. I agree with you totally. I like the lights to set back on the bike just as they were designed to do on the venture. Its really not hard to loosen and/or remove the passing lights to split the fairing. I always put a sheet on my front fender and lay the lights on it to protect the bike. Not hard to do. DanC:confused24:
  10. You are right about the dealer NOT installing the relay when THEY install the passing lights on the bike. Good Point!!! They go to the nearest power source and splice in. I can only state that for the dealership that sold me my Yamaha however I feel that most WILL NOT spend the time and expense of a relay being installed. So if you are having any system added ensure that a relay or seperate fused system is used to power it with controling switches. Above all make sure that NO addition power/amps is running through the ignition switch. See my article below for additional information on amps being drawned through the ignition switch. DanC
  11. Don't give up. It took mine 59 days to get here but it did finally arrive. Ordered Dec 13th and arrived Feb 11, 2011. You will get it. DanC
  12. Well, I was having the same problem. It took 59 days for mine to arrive. It was ordered and shipped on Dec 13.2010. It just arrived yesterday Feb 11,2011. Its not the company's fault but home land security is just not letting the boxes on aircraft with people aboard. Every box is being scanned and etc. According to Sean Morgan the shipping company is getting more cargo type aircraft to deliver the mail being shipped. you should be receiving yours very shortly. 14. error:no-no-no:The "best solution" to the ignition switch problem in my opinion is a simple ONE rule to follow. The Bike's ignition switch/circuit was "designed" to carry a certain amount of current through the ignition Switch. When you add accessories: ie, extra lights, radios, running light, side lights, trailer lights and etc they should all be run on a "seperate independent electrical systems". Think about this people, if you put to many circuits on a circuit breaker in your home it pops to both save the items being powered ,the circuit breaker, because of "HEAT" being generated by overloading the circuit or worse yet a fire. Do not run additional operational add ons to the ignition switch circuit. Suggestion: Go to any boat supply parts, like WEST MARINE and get a small circuit panel/strip used on boats. Run the new items installed on your bike directly from the small circuit panel/strip with each individually fused and with its own switch to control the circuit operation. This will prevent the HEAT being generated in the Key switch/circuit and thus prevents damage to the switch itself. In simple terms DO NOT add any additional items on the Key circuit switch. Treat this power going through the ignition switch just like you would any circuit breaker in your house. They are rated for a certain amount of AMPS/HEAT so you do not overload the individual circuit and cause a fire or damage the circuit breaker or to the ignition switch itself. HEAT generated by AMPS drawned by any circuit is the cause of most electrical problems in any electrical system. Computers, household items and etc. "HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every system added on to your bike should be independent of the other systems currently installed. You can buy the circuit strip with the fuses already installed to the individual circuits. DanC

  16. Welcome to the site and also to owning a Venture. That is a real nice color combination for sure. Beautiful Bike!! I think that you will learn to really enjoy reading all the articles concerning your bike and making comments on the site. Everyone is very helpful and full of different ideas and etc. Learning a lot from the site. Several places to get accessories is Billet ,:banana:J.C Whitney and also Yamaha. I will get you these sites and pass them on to you. ok. Again welcome to the site and I know that you enjoy your Venture. DanC
  17. Am I missing something here. Why is all the talk about adding a fuel conditioner to the fuel. I have a 2008 venture and have never had to treat the fuel system as of yet with no problems. Is there something about the venture carbs that I am missing that they need to have the treatment added to the fuel system all the time? I feel as though I am missing something in this area and would appreciate someone setting me straight on this matter. I for the life of me can not understand what is the problem?? It is interesting reading all the articles concerning this subject to the point that people are making their own mixtures. I got to be missing something. :witch_brew:thanks in advance. DanC
  18. I finally received my carbtune that was Ordered on Dec 13th 2010. Been waiting a long time to get it. Sean, Morgan Company, also stated that he sent me a replacement item on the 17th of January 2011. Today I received the December's order. I wrote to Sean immediately to let him know that I received the item from the December's order. I then open the paper wraping to find that one of the pins where the air line hooks into was "broke OFF" the carbtune. So I send a photo of the broken pin to the Morgan company ie: Sean and I am waiting for a reply. I am going to recommend better packing as it was only in the storage case that I ordered with the Carbtune tool. It was wrapped in very light plastic paper. There was some bubble wrap on the top of the pins but not enough to protect it from the two month journey to my place of residence. I am glad to see that others are getting their's and that it arrived in good order. So for all that have the carbtune I would recommend that a little more bubble wrap surround the four pins when you put it in the carrying case for protection. They will break off!!! DanC:bang head:
  19. Sorry to hear about the problems your having at this time. Like others have advised, do not give up, take you meds and listen to your doctors. Our prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery. DanC
  20. Yes, I also ordered a carbtune from them and it was shipped out on Dec 14th 2010. It has yet to arrive!! I keep sending them e-mails concerning me not getting the unit and so after 30 days they re-sent me another one by "international sign for service" with some type of number, not a tracking number, but one that needs to be signed for. according to them the item has arrived in the states now however I still have not recieved it. The replacement carbtune was sent out on the 17th of January. Still waiting for either of them to arrive. I will return the additional one if I do recieve two carbtunes. The packages are being held up somewhere because of the possible bomb threat. DanC:dancefool:
  21. It could be the battery itself with an internal short circuit which slowly drains the battery.
  22. I would run an external positive line and ground directly from the battery outside the bike and attempt to operate the light with direct power. Elimiate whether the problem in the ground circuit or the positive side. Then you can check back by opening the orginal circuit and using the test voltage directly from the battery. This test WILL lead you to the problem. Just because one has 13.5 volts does not mean that you have current. Current equals Voltage over resistance. Sorry but I have years of electronic schools behind me so if I get to far out there please forgive me. :dancefool:Hope that this helps. DanC
  23. Well, I got my answer and wanted to thank everyone for there help. I will be pulling the cowling off tomorrow to get at the light ring to secure the new visor cover. thanks again. Dan:guitarist 2:
  24. :Im not listening toI am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question but I have all you members out there that could help me with this problem. I bought the Yamaha Light covers for the running lights and the headlight. I installed the running lights with no problem. I took the bolt off of the headlight thinking that the chrome ring would come off but its refusing to come off the cowling. My question is, do I have to remove the complete front cowling to get the chrome cover off so as I can lock the visor in place?? I have a maintenance manual and it does not cover anything about removing the front chrome covering on the headlight. My owners manual also does not cover this area. Thanks in advance. Dan
  25. I found some real nice red running lights with chrome at the truck stop in Balwin, Fl. I then made a metal bracket to go on both sides:dancefool: of the license plate. The brackets mount to the screws that hold the license plate. I then drilled holes in the bracket and mounted the red running lights to each side of the license plate. It really increased the red lights from the rear and was very inexpensive to install. Ofcourse I had to hook up the electric to the lights which was right there in the rear of the bike. Several of my friends really liked the hookup and so Iinstalled them on there respective bike. "Not all Ventures", forgive me!! ha ha . I am attaching some pictures of the rear lights installed. Any questions please let me know. Hope it helps someone out there. If the photo does not come in with this post let me know and I will e-mail the photos to you. Dan4852@aol.com DanC
