  1. I'm just going with latest one.. there's too many to list I put the plungers on the forks on backwards when replacing the fork seals and could not understand why it was bottoming out so bad. I also mistook the bleed screw for the clutch as a grease fitting. I knew something was wrong when there were red drops coming from the ceiling. Brake fluid was somehow squirting way up in the air. I'm mechanically inclined by cycle-stupid and am still learning.
  2. I bought the Duet washer at a thrift store locally for $80, it started leaking and turned out it was an issue with the water pump, the motor had been getting water in it and burned up.. seems like there was some sort of issue with the plastic fittings, can't remember, but it was about $50 in parts (Ebay) and maybe 30-45 minutes to fix it. Been going strong for years after that with no other issues. Our water bill has dropped since switching to a HE type washer.
  3. The plastic tab on mine was partially broken off, so mine was all the time popping up. I drilled a hole in the middle of the little tab from the front to back and used a very small toggle bolt with the scissor part facing backwards and cut off the extra bolt length... The little spring loaded scissor part actually goes into the slot the plastic tab would go into if it were present . It fits together very firm now, no more problems. If your tab is still present and maybe a bit shorter or what not, maybe you could just glue a washer to the bottom of it to extend the length of it a bit. http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/94/94ff2d70-ecda-45fa-84fd-e40b5930c38a_300.jpg
  4. My speedo has started acting realy jumpy as slower speeds, it is fine when I get going good, but it bugs me. Do I need to grease or oil something?
  5. Just tryed the center stand method.. Bike rides better now, guess I was running it too low before.
  6. I put my bike on the center stand every time I stop, but I do not have a manual and had no idea you were supposed to adjust the CLASS system on it, I've always done it if I have not ridden in a couple of days before I start off, when it is on no stand at all.
  7. I once had $10,000 just appear in my checking account, it was in there for a week and the the back reversed it and it went away... No idea what that was about they never offered an explanation.
  8. Tried the broomstick, might have been too big of one, no joy there. Bought a 5/8 threaded rod with the nuts as in the picture and had both sides off in less than a minute.. Bottom pulled off fairly easily too. Thank you for your help, I seriously could not have done it without you.
  9. Thank you!! I'll report back tomorrow after I give it another shot with the suggestions.
  10. I have a question on the Fork Seal replacement instructions posted by Freebird if any of you have done it this way HERE In the part below where you remove the 8 or 10mm Allen Socket on the bottom of the fork, mine just keeps spinning around and around.. I didn't see in the instruction where I was supposed to do anything to stop it on the other side, but I am turning it counter-clockwise and it does not come loose, it feels like it is spinning a nut on the other end of it... Not sure how to proceed now my seals are leaking like crazy and bike front end is apart for this step. Any ideas would be appreciate... Thank you, Brandon Freebird's picture from this step http://www.venturerider.org/forkseals/george/12c%20%28WinCE%29.jpg
  11. I was going to go with the Nuvi 265WT, but changed my mind and just went with the 765T Refurbished for $162.10 from HERE It has bluetooth, mp3 player , text to speech and all that, but what really sold me on it , it has the newer looking Garmin maps, they look nice and has a feature which tells me which lane to get into before my turns on the interstate called Lane Assist. You can also setup multi-stop routes, etc which the 265WT could not do. I just went to the garmin website and played with the features until I could find the cheapest one with the features I wanted and googled for that model. Garmin Website Street GPS's This will mostly be used in the car, so waterproof was not a factor for me.
  12. you say it hasn't ran in a "YEar or so", I'm new here, so this might be total BS, but I recently purchased a "hasn't ran in a year or so bike"... er 2 or 3 or 4 The rubber bits will be your problem areas, these include in my experince (so far) Carburetor diaphragms (~$90 for all 4) ,Fork Seals, Tires (~ $250 for both), any O-rings, (might need to replace clutch & brake lines if they are the orig ones) I would "guess" you are probably looking at $400-500 to get it going again by replacing the rubber crap that has dried / cracked and just plain failed... For that price it is well worth it no matter what. Just my 2 pennies, I'm a new Venture owner so take it for what its worth... Good luck.
  13. rmzaurora I ran into the same exact thing tonight, but I drained my forks 1st and then added 13.5 oz to each side... I knew mine were real low on oil because my front end is bouncy as hell and have been dripping on my tire. Not much at all came out, maybe not even 10oz between both of them. They would not compress at all afterwards and my CLASS showed 40psi on the front ??? So I drained some, the psi on the front dropped , ran it around the drive and locked up the front brakes a couple of times. It popped out the seal and dumped all of the fork oil on my front wheel and driveway...DOH! So what I ran into I am guessing is not all the oil drained out, maybe some debris was blocking the drain hole? I don't know, I just thought I'd mention it so hopefully you don't pop that front seal like I just did. I just parked it for now, too disgusted to mess with it at the moment.:headache:
  14. I have the same problem. It was suggested to me that it could be a synch issue, which does make sense. I have tried syncing mine using the vinyl tubing with oil in it, I'm running better but not great. I have not pulled the plugs since then so I am not sure if that was the problem or not.
  15. How do you avoid hitting the wire and pulling the buds out of your ears, and then you need to take off your helmet put them back in and put your helmet back on. The wire always seems to be in my way with the buds.
  16. Ordered from Amazon and VERY pleased with the thing... I made the mistake of going into town Fri afternoon last week... ugh, used the thing several times, it sure gets those cagers that are crowding you out's attention... love it. 17. Impressive McGyvering!! Beats the prices they run on Ebay whenever they pop up.
  18. Really sorry you had to go through that.. No excuse for dogs running loose, we have problems with it our neighborhood too... we have 4 dogs and love them dearly (3 newfies and a border collie mix)
  19. $69+$5(s/h) to paypal@siriusconinc.com and a week later I have new diaphragms...OMG, I love my cycle now! Took about 20minutes to replace them all. Thank you for making this possible.
  20. I stumbled on this video @ youtube somehow and later noticed their was a similar one on here , it is a vid by Yamahamer... I love this video, the wide angle and music really put you in the action. 21. Good Honest answer.... I run 3 forums myself, and yep I could read the PM's from browsing the database but who the heck has that much time or even cares to... seriously, I could really care less what they say, I'm short enough on time as it is. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work Freebird! Saltcreep/Brandon
  22. What is the volume like? I love the tone of those! Sounds real good.
  23. If you are worried about your privacy on facebook or any other social connection website, You're doing it wrong.
  24. The previous owner removed the cowling/vents that are in front of the driver's legs.. he said they are something to heat up the user's legs. They were included with the purchase, just not attached, the bike is also missing the front lower air dam. I have never driven another 1st gen other than this one I got off ebay less than 1 month ago.. No owner's manual either. What is the purpose of these vents.. I'm wondering if these are used to cool off your legs? I could get an air dam off ebay,... they're a bit pricey , but there are a few on there.... just not sure if I'm missing something I don't have or better off without it. I live in South Bama temps are peaking at 90+ now, the heat off this beast is a bit much on the legs right now, but maybe I'm just a light-weight.
