  1. I got to thinking about something after posting this. My dampner knob has never worked right it will turn just a tiny bit , not much at all. It won't go into the highest position, does that little knob make very much difference? I've tried it with low pressure & high pressure in the shocks.. the back and front don't leak at all. It is just a weird sensation it seems like the back end sort of swings a little after hitting a bump. I don't really know how to describe it, it may be the nature of the beast and I don't have anything else to compare it too. I will go ahead and get the progressive from Skydoc & the fork brace too to see if that helps, they are certainly not very expensive and everyone says they noticed a big difference in the front after doing it. I've got the wrench for the steering bearings , will do that this weekend... Hmm.. loose swing arm.. that might describe it, as it does feel like it is the rear moving too much.. How do I check that.. Just lift the rear end up with the center stand and try torquing it side to side maybe? Looks like I've got homework this weekend Thank you
  2. I have recently picked up a Suzuki V-strom, and having a hard time getting back into the swing of things on the Venture. These issues have always been there, but I overlooked them because it was my 1st bike. (It is a 92 with 88,000 miles on it) The venture feels a bit bouncy, like there is enough spring but not enough dampening on the front & rear. There is a sensation that is a bit disconcerting that the rear end of the bike feels disconnected from the front, it is as if it moves independently of the front, like something is looser than it should be. That is really the only way I know how to describe it. I notice it mostly when I go over a bump or a dip. Could the be because it does not have solid motor mounts? Does the frame actually flex? Or maybe I just need a new rear shock? ($$$'s) ouch. The ride reminds me a bit of one of those old 70's cars that weighed 4500lbs after the shocks would wear out a bit. Speed doesn't seem to matter. I don't have experience with a well tuned (in better shape) Venture, so nothing to compare it to. Thanks, Brandon
  3. I would think so... You can pull off that radio panel and look at the controller/amplifier box below it, it should have an empty receptacle for it. I couldn't imagine Yamaha using a different box whether you had a cb or not. If you get stuck on anything I can look at how mine is wired up its still pretty fresh for me since I just did it the other weekend.
  4. I just did this myself.. sorta. I ripped the wiring from a parts bike for the radio/cb & handlebar & passenger remote and put it on my bike. I just did one connector at a time, it took most of an afternoon and had to remove the seat, side covers and the fairings on both bikes. For just the CB alone, it will be easy, there is a 5-pin din harness that goes from the main box in the left fairing over the the cb box in the right fairing and then another connecter for power I think, not too many wires really and I don't think you'll have to remove the fairings to do it. What about the antenna, does your bike without the cb have the antenna already? Mmmm.. Spaghetti http://www.haveparrotwilltravel.com/gallery2/albums/userpics/normal_%21006%7E0.jpg
  5. That looks really really good and clean, lots of attention to detail. Are the fuse holders held in place any way on the battery? -- Nevermind , I see you used double sided tape.
  6. The Garmin maps are proprietary, that's where they make a lot of their money. Go with the lifetime update for just a few more dollars, if you think you'll have the device for a while. http://g.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/25161/garmin-nu-map-Oregon-450.html
  7. A lot of the spam is not really meant to be read on the forum or they expect business from the forum they hit, it is meant to increase their Search engine rankings.. the more links back to the crap they are peddling they post on the interwebz, the higher up they will be when someone goes to Google looking for Cilias, prozac, extenz, or whatever crap they are looking for. I run 3 forums and I just changed mine to Admin approval for new accounts to be activated and have a couple of people that can do it. I also put messages for people to email me if they want to be activated faster. I gave up trying to fight it I also block a lot of IP addresses on the server especially from China & Russia. I am using phpBB & SMF though and not familiar with what vBulletin has in place. Thank you for the work you do I know it is a constant battle.
  8. OOPS... This is a duplicate of something that has already been posted. Sorry, I'm slow Original thread is here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66162 http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?304851-I-modified-my-Wing-cat-is-out-of-the-bag&p=3593586&viewfull=1#post3593586 http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/Zackybilly1/Wing%203/Wings160.jpg I saw a picture of this bike from the Last ride of the year, and I really thought the instrument panel was just sorta something for looks, kind of a steampunk bit of stuff... Nope.. its all real. FLIR camera, 3 gps's, Rider A/c and heating, all sorts of mad skills went into this .. the build thread is interesting it starts here http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?304851-I-modified-my-Wing-cat-is-out-of-the-bag Like it or not , props to this guy's mad building skills.
  9. My clutch master cylinder has leaked onto my left side fairing weakening some of the plastic on the bottom. I have a replacement top panel, but more worried about the fairing shell. It has broken off a tab , and it "feels" oily. Is there anything I can do, or is it best to just bite the bullet and try and replace this fairing (ebay). I just don't know if plastic welding/glue/plastex, etc.. would work when it is contaminated like this.... I have the shell removed and can post pictures if that helps. Just was wondering if anyone had dealt with this before and had found something that works.
  10. This is a push mower? I've always just turned them over and dumped out the oil, they don't weig that much, it always seemed the simplest way to me ..
  11. I'd do it , if the parts bike didn't have a salvage title. I did some research today on what it takes to title one in Alabama that is marked as salvage and boy what a pita. Need a rebuilders license (fee $100), plus insurance for my garage, itemized receipts that have notary stamps for each thing replaced... $10,000 bond, etc etc... Wonderful governmental hogwash getting in the way of common sense.
  12. Trader, my bike is a Royale, but it looks like maybe they cut some of the connectors when they removed the accessories, so the wiring may be a bit of a pita. I don't know if the bike came with the accessories and they removed them when it was converted to a service bike, or if it just didn't come with them.. but I'm finding wires with no connectors where there should be.. UGH I only have enough room to move around because I took my wifes car out of the garage to give me more room to play, at least for the weekend They're all crammed together usually. PS: The disassembled bike in the background is actually my 92 / driver, guess that is confusing, the one in the foreground is the parts bike, and I just stuck the trunk/bags on there to take a picture, it came naked.
  13. Steve, you chose the right handle! Thanks , with that info I was able to find the original thread, now I remember seeing it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52435
  14. I had these pictures saved on my hard drive, i think I probably saved them from this site, but I cannot find them in the gallery. I really really like this color, I'd like to ask the owner what color this is. http://www.haveparrotwilltravel.com/gallery2/albums/userpics/101_0012.JPG http://www.haveparrotwilltravel.com/gallery2/albums/userpics/101_0013.JPG http://www.haveparrotwilltravel.com/gallery2/albums/userpics/101_0014.JPG
  15. Another vote for Audible. I also download podcasts and listen to those... several of them offer short stories, different every week, with a huge backlog of previous shows you can listen to also. I don't have an Ipod, but a zune, but I imagine these are about the same.. in the Zune marketplace there is a section for hundreds of podcasts where you can chose the subject you want and find some good listening stuff in there. 2 of the ones I like -> Pseudopod (horror), Escape Pod (science Fiction)
  16. My ride is a 92 Yamaha venture , old plastic bike a bit rough around the edges, but I like the way it rides. It was treated pretty roughly in its life I think and some of the plastic was a bit rough and it was missing all of the amenities because it was a police bike. Picked up a parts bike for $500 this weekend.. that all the electronics are present on, lots of extra amenities, like drivers backrest, trailer hitch, etc.. Wasn't supposed to run, but it is running. Would only run on choke at 1st , but after a can of sea foam it is getting better slowly but surely, no idea of the shape of the carbs / carb diaphragms. I am sure the carbs need cleaning. Sat up for a long time I think , the clutch and brakes need to be rebuilt, It has zero clutch right now. But this bike wasn't supposed to work really ,so this is all a bonus I think I am still going with my original plan though and use the parts from it to fix mine up, but man, I'm pleased as punch to find another one for a good deal.. I didn't have a radio, cb, intercom stuff or any of that. http://www.haveparrotwilltravel.com/gallery2/albums/userpics/%21033.jpg
  17. That looks really really good... How do you get those edge bends on that aluminum to look so nice?
  18. Take it easy getting back into it.. I've had to layout so many times because I end up pushing myself and hurting something (torn rotator, back, etc) . You wont do yourself any favors if you mess something up and can't go. And man it take so long to heal now that I've gotten older.. sheesh.
  19. Same Here! My wife and I often quote it,.... "what was in there? " ,etc... we're weird like that I guess, but that video is awesome.
  20. Just about 40 Miles N of Mobile.. The weather this weekend was Out of sight! We went camping in Pensacola, wonderful stuff... supposed to be like this all week, you guys will have a great trip.
  21. Home Improvement, Gardening & Fishing! :)00
  22. I don't know if this is your cup of tea or not, but the "egg" fiberglass campers seem to just last forever. I have a Casita 16ft that I got a few years back and fixed up. Replaced the floor with Laminate, new cabinet doors, etc. Was really a fun and not too hard project and it requires very little maintenance now. Lots of neat models and info on the different types here: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/index.html
  23. I couldn't stop myself from watching it all, but it made my stomach hurt... Oh man !
