  1. So what do I need to replace since mine will start in gear clutch out. You must have kickstand up for it to start though.
  2. I may have read something on here somewhere about starting an 88 venture in gear. Are you suppose to be able to start one of these bikes in gear with clutch out. I am going to work on my cruse this weekend and I know somebody said something about a clutch switch.
  3. . Bike didn't seem any slower with the HD part on it either. Look at the good side with that HD part on there you just doubled the value of your bike.
  4. I was checking to see if anyone has a CLass controller. I think I am going to see if I can add it to my bike.
  5. I have own and ridden a HD for the last 10 years and now ride an 88 venture. Unless he as done some serious modifications to his bike or owns a Vrod it makes no difference when you shift as you will never have to leave 2nd gear. I love my HD's and will continue to own them; however, they are the slowest bike I have ever owned. Curtis
  6. A lot depends on what you are wanting to do when not riding. Gatlinburg is close and it is up in the mountains. Tourist area so lots to do there. It is also easy ride to Dragon,Cherohala Skyway, and Blue ridge Parkway all recommended rides if you have time. Knoxville is not far away if you want a bigger city. Townsend would also make good choice another small town in the mountains. If you like to gamble on the NC side there is Cherokee they have casino. Hope this helps Curtis
  7. I went to the site and it answered several of my questions but I found the clip on the wheel and pulled it off but how do you get the hub off. I don;t want to start prying on something and then it brake. Is the hub held on by anything other than the clip?
  8. I have been following your post here close since last night I went for a ride and my rear end (on the bike) started making noise. Mine is making a constant grinding sound. You can pull in the clutch while riding about 15 mph and hear it. The faster you go the louder it is. I took the rear wheel off today since I really need to replace the tire anyway, but I am lost on what all I am suppose to clean. Is it only the splines between the pumpkin and rear wheel? I pulled the drive shaft out of the swing arm it is dry and looks good. I am afraid of pulling it out of the pumpkin because whoever put the seal in there did not do a good job. It is not leaking and unless I need to do something in there I don't want to disturb. Do I pull the bolt out of the pumpkin on the side that goes to the wheel and clean in there? ps. flyinfool did you ever find out what was causing your noise. I am lost here to so sorry I cant help.
  9. Were do you get them? I can't find them for that price on ebay.
  10. Is there anyone around the Knoxville TN area who has the tools to help me sync my carbs. I want to have this done to see if if it helps. I don't mind going to your place but I don't trust this bike to go a long ways. Can you leave the petcock on the right rear on res all the time. I ran out of gas the other day after only 150 miles and could not turn the petcock to res. Had to call the wife to bring me gas.
  11. If it dose smoke what does that mean. I noticed the other day after waiting on a long stop light there was some blue smoke in my mirror.
  12. Thanks everyone there is still a whine in what I think is the clutch and I wanted to make sure I was not running it low on oil. On my HD they are all in three separate compartments. Thanks again Curtis
  13. Can somebody tell me where all you need to check the oil on these bikes? I know where to check the engine oil but do they have oil for the clutch pack or is there a transmission oil on these bikes. I know there is rear end oil but don't know how to check it. Thanks for any help.
  14. Does anyone know if the headset off of a Harley davidson will work on the JMCB-2003-DU set. Or do I have to buy their set. I have both of the headsets from my 03 HD ultra.
  15. Thank you for that I will get them ordered. I would still like to put the class system on the bike if anyone has one for sale. If I cant find a complete one I will let everyone know and piece one together.
  16. so where did you order them from and how much did everything cost?
  17. Well it looks like I am going to have to change the front springs, mine are now leaking. I will probably order the progressive set on here. What I would like to know is I have an air leak they will not hold air for more than a few days. Could this be from the shocks leaking oil or is it going to be part of the air lines? Next question, I see a lot of people parting out bike does anyone have a CLASS system they would like to get rid of. I will need everything because mine has nothing. If I add the CLASS system will I have to change the main wiring harness? Or will I just be able to run a few wires to hook it all up?
  18. Why are you replacing the fork brace what is wrong with the factory one?

    Good Day

You know it has been a GOOD day when you have to fill your bike up twice in the same day. No, I don't feel sorry for you poor sucker who had to work today. PS. No, I didn't dump the bike over and lose all my gas.
  20. Shoot u'all it taint no HOT air weins usein its strait fromin that there copper pipe there. Uins put that there good air in them there ters and uins never feelin another bump again.
  21. Do you see that pretty pike elephant? Well I just wanted to let you know that I got my switch tore apart and all put back, wow there goes a purple elephant, together and everything seems fine for today. I hope that cured the problem. I also got my fuel gauge tore apart and adjusted , now there goes an orange elephant with a green monkey, but when I raise it up it keep going wide open so I guess I need to fine a new sending unit. Thanks everyone for all your help I am getting ready to take it for a ride By the way I think I found the real reason he used starting fluid to clean the parts.
  22. I don't want a new key. My housing to my original is broken. I want to get a different housing and then take my tumblers out of the old housing and put into the new one because I want to keep everything keyed the same. The reason I was asking is because I don't know about motorcycles and I know on a car you have to turn the key a certain way in order to get the tumblers to come out. I want to make sure I don't have to do the same thing with a motorcycle before I go and buy a used one without a key. I don't want to have to get a key cut for the lock just to get the tumblers out so I can put mine back in. I still want the one key to ft all my lock which i have now.
  23. When I was asking about the fuel gauge I had just filled up so I had to run some of the fuel out before I could pull the gauge. I will work on it tomorrow. I will let you know what I find thanks.
  24. Does anyone know the link or at least what it is under? I am sorry I should have put more in here. I know it is the switch I have chased it down that far, what I was looking for was a way to clean it which I hear is in the site. If someone could please let me know what it is under I have looked but can't find it. I knew I could by pass it but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to.
  25. I have an 88 venture. The headlight is not working. From what I can tell the headlight power wire comes from the fuse to the starter switch on the right handle grip. From there it goes to the headlight. I am getting power from the fuse to the switch but nothing out. Is the starter switch a momentary switch that shuts the power off to the headlight when starting? Is there a way that I can clean the switch or something I can do with it. I took it apart and it looked alright to me. If not would it hurt anything to simply by pass the switch. I hate to get into doing thing like that but I have spent way to much on this bike and i am not spending anymore. I will sell it first. Thanks for any help Curtis
