Vent the Gas Tank Filler Neck
BuddyRich replied to V7Goose's topic in Body, Plastic, Paint and Seats
Do it with a nearly full tank. Fuel burns, vapors explode. a full tank won't explode, it may catch fire but then you just put the cap on. If there was a spark. Then again you could use a deadblow hammer. Mine is covered in plastic. -
I use a Gerbings Heated vest. I also bought the adjustable controller. I mounted the control unit on the passenger mount floorboard cover. I then ran the plug to the top of the left side cover. I'll post some pics when I get back home late tonight. The vest is very warm but when it gets down into the low 40's and 30's I use a fleece pull ove ron top of it and then the thing will fry me if I want it to. Good thing about a heated vest is you can feel the cold on your feet and knees but it really doesn't get cold because your chest and back are staying WARM.

OK, If you use this stuff on your front forks,Beware, After a few minutes you will have to polish all the fork as it will begin to look like its been chromed. One of the pics shows a reflection of my thumb. That's where it been polished. The other is the unpolished part of the fork. Guess I'll be polishin forks this winter. Didn't take but 2 or 3 minutes to get it that shiny. Works on the floorboards too. Added a couple of more pics. Theres no going back after you start this. Your removing a clear coat thats on the forks. But I like the results. Just means I have to polish them once a year. Last 2 pics are after doing most of the front and side of the right fork.

Jack, None of mine have done that. Is this front or rear, whats your tire pressure? I'm beginning to wonder if maybe you have an alignment problem and the tire is running at a slight angle. I remember you saying you don't have a garage. Is the tire sitting in water all the time when parked?

Volume thru helmet speakers
BuddyRich replied to Bigfoot's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sounds like you need to increase the output from the gps. go into you preferences on the gps and turn the voice or the volume way up. Be sure to check the jumper your using to patch in also. a bad ground would cause very low volume -
Where did you get the air riders.

If you go with a firestik be sure you put a heavy duty spring on it. You don't want the firestik breakin the mount. Hey, has anybody made an adapter to put an VSWR meter on rhe RSV's since they use a different connector. If so what did you use? -
Rear Shocks goin bad.
BuddyRich replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks ECK.... Mine, being an 05 is leaking and if they want to see proof of it, its the first post Last 6 of the VIN is 000661, Should any REPs be watching this site. They should be worried about loss of control and a resulting class action suit. As many as they have had to replace its pretty obivious there is a design flaw. And leaking oil in front of a tire is all an attorney needs to hang them out to dry. I still think its the best bike I have ever owned though, the more I ride it the better it gets. -

Baker Air Wings
BuddyRich replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since the fairing is made from abs you could to the local plastics store and buy a small piece of ABS. Cut a small piece. If the back of the fairing where you want to drill the holes is not flat. You can heat the abs to 260 and hold it in place so it forms to the back. Then just get some ABS glue from Home Depot and glue it on. now drill the hole and its reinforced already. Just be sure you have clearance on the back side for the extra thickness. That's what I would do anyway. -

Oh, Yea, Blame it on me :rotf: Don't know. I just took it to the dealer yesteday and they said they would order it and it should be in by Fri. He just looked it up on the computer , didn't tell me if it was a new part number or what. -
Found these at Lowes today. Great for your saddle bags. if you mount them with velcro you could use them as an emergency light also as the have a flash function. Uses 3 AAA batteries so they are not the expensive to change batteries in. 9.94 each

Had not heard of this one. Maybe you had a really fast tailwind? There are a couple of places that the pipes join. There are gaskets at these joints. Maybe you have a loose one?

Turning left on a red when the light won't change.
BuddyRich replied to juggler's topic in Safety and Education
Found this doing a search. Don't think I'm gonna wait 15 minutes for a light to change. And the first one is kinda funny. On second thought about half of it is funny How To Trip a Traffic Light With a Motorcycle From Walter Kern, Your Guide to Motorcycles. FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Every motorcyclist has pulled up to a red traffic light and waited to get the bike to trip a sensor to activate a left-turn or green traffic light. Often they just do not trip. Here are some things to try. Difficulty: Average Time Required: varies Here's How: Get off your bike and push the "walk" button if it is safe. Sometimes you may just have to look both ways and run the light. In some places it's OK to "proceed with caution" after 15 minutes, in some places after 2 cycles. You need to know what the law is in your area. If you fail to trigger the switch, wait at least one more cycle and then proceed when it is safe. Sometimes it helps to kill the engine and restart it just to get the magnetic fields going over the tripping device. Put yourself right over the detector in the pavement. Give the bike a couple of good revs.zSB(3,3) Turn right and then do a "U" turn when you can. Threaten legal action. Start by calling the street department and complaining. Every week re-check the light. If you get no action, send them a nice professional letter threatening them with a lawsuit. As you approach the intersection, there are lines cut into the pavement where the sensor was put in. The sensor pad is octagonal or square. Put the most metal over the intersection of two sides. Another trick is to put out your kickstand. If you can get the kickstand out, there is more of a metal area to detect. Don't forget to retract your kickstand when the light finally changes. Rig your bike with an electro-magnet under the frame. This is wired into the brake lamp circuit and induces enough of a field to trip most lights. Consider the purchase of a device that will trip the light for you. Two such products are the Green Light Trigger and the Red Light Changer. A new trend is the introduction of special motorcycle boxes that show you where to stop your bike to trip the light. The front-most "box" has additional diagonal lines, with a bike icon painted in the box. Roll forwards and back in an effort to trip the sensors. If you are waiting for a left-turn signal light to change, you can always proceed through the intersection on green and make three successive right-hand turns. This only works with regular city blocks. Some states have sensors in the lights that can detect flashing lights of police cars and ambulances, and will quickly change the light. You might try flashing your lights to see if that will trip it. -
Turning left on a red when the light won't change.
BuddyRich replied to juggler's topic in Safety and Education
I believe there is also a federal law that states a person may proceed thru a traffic signal when it is safe to do so if the light malfunctions. Not detecting a bike is a malfunction. Last time I checked feds have more power than the state. Especially when it comes to signals. And you did let it go thru all its cycles twice. Same thing happend to me and a motor unit followed me into a parking and talked to me for a second. Suggested I should go ahead and go straight up to the next intersetion and make a u turn , But did not give me a ticket either. AND they still have not fixed that light after 3 years. -
The Gerbings controller comes with a hardwire connector to the battery. If I start runnin the vest and the led and all 3 headlight on highbeam I am running at borderline on the charging of the battery. So you really don't have that much juice. But I won't give up my heat or lights in the winter. just have to turn down the heat for a short period and she catchs back up on the charge. I use a Kuryakyn charge meter.

Close up the airbox with the filter in it guys. The first gens don't like the box being open.

But , Cops never drop their bikes, :rotf: I don't remember how many times I have dropped it but I look at it like this, If you don't drop it you ain't ridin it enough. I still got to get that "Drop you bike like a Pro" video together. This is where you fall on it after you drop it. Just to make sure the bike doesn't bounce back up on it wheels.
