The RSTD and the Venture may surprise you at the power there. Coming off a v-twin you may not be winding her out as you should. But they are great bikes. The V-4 will put out and is nearly bullet proof. I had a nomad before this and to tell the truth, I would not go back to anything without cruise control and tunes. Which are all stock on the Venture

Manhole covers and those big metal plates over big holes in the road are a whole lot of fun too.

I can only make holes with a welder. Think I may be doing something wrong Maybe if I had a hole maker I could weld. -
In WV :rotf: U asked

Your getting spark so something should ignite. I don't trust starting fluid. Try putting the cover back on and choke then un choke it. Does the throttle cable run to the cruise control? Do you see the sliders operate when pulling on the cable? I'm lost too at this point. Gas and Spark usually result in fire
-
Did you fix the throttle cable yet? I would pour a little fuel down the throats or try to choke it. Sounds like you got good spark.
-
What I would do.. Pour a little fuel down the throats. If no backfiring or even acting like it wants to start I would replace the plugs. This hurts if done wrong but pull a plug and put the wire on it. Now hold the plug so its grounded and turn the engine over. You should get a good spark at the gap. I would also try a different plug than the last one you checked.

Or fuel filter
-
Next thing to try is a little fuel poured down the throats. Just a little and try to fire it up.
-
You have spark to the plugs but are the plugs firing? Is it possible the plugs are fouled. I would probably start there. If you not getting any type of backfiring then its not timing its just not lighting the fuel.

Fuel reserve question
BuddyRich replied to TheBreeze's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No, When you switch to reserve your switchin to the lowest feed in the tank. Normal if just a higher feed. -
Very Sorry to hear this Allen. We will keep you in our prayers.

Try measuring the voltage at the battery. Measure right on the terminal/post of the battery and then on the crimp on the heavy lead leading from the battery. If you get a different reading I would say there's some corrosion on the leads. That would explain the .5 voltage drop your showing.
-
I have noticed that the chirp on mine is at 35 in 3rd and 25 in second, around 60 in 5th.So I just take the gearing to where I don't hear it as much if it starts to bother me.

Connect it to the the cig lighter leads

Not very far, The cooling fins on the second gens are fake and when Steve blew a line last summer she started boilin pretty quick, I'd say within 10 to 20 miles.
-
Looks like I over estimated the time its going to take. Its only going to be about an hour per side for any of ya'll fixin to do this.
-
Mine was 9% fast so it was reading 9% high on the milage also. Put the Speedohealer on it and its right on the money now. Feds have an old law thats says a speedo can be off by + or - 12% and its ok. So Dealers won't fix it if it falls with in those parameters.

Used the course steelwool then the fine steelwool. Actually that's the only reason I used the steelwool. Also only used the fine on the small lip right next to the painted surface. That way I did not remove the clear coat off the paint. The polish does a good job by its self on the alum once you get down to it.
