  1. I like it----I like it! Your trip sounds awesome. My first trike was a Venture Royal and it was real nice with plenty of power. On my latest trike build, it's a sportster theme with just fenders and a trunk, I also tried to get Tri-Wing to sell me part of their kit, the differential, swing arms and shock mounts but they said no way and some other things, so I also built the parts myself. Perhaps there's a business opportunity for them selling kit parts, maybe I should send them some pictures.
  2. Just a thought, ever consider a trike. Somehow I managed to get old and wanted to keep riding but two wheels just wasn't enough, three wheels are great and I don't think I could ride two again. I had a big touring trike but it was too big for what I needed now my Vulcan trike is a safe, fun, easy to handle ride.
  3. Had the same problem on mine and tapping the carb in question solved the problem------long enough to make me think I solved the problem, my drains were also plugged. I would also suggest you check your fuel filter if you haven't. I didn't and ended up having to remove my carbs for a gooood cleaning, I couldn't believe all the trash in them and my fuel filter was really really bad, no telling where the fuel we get comes from or the condition of the storage tanks. Good idea on the Coleman fuel as I have not found Seafoam down here, is it a automotive or a marine product? I wonder how does the Coleman fuel affect the rubber parts in the carbs?
  4. As you go through your stuff see if you have a fuel tank sending unit-----that works and will fit on my 90 VR. Thanks
  5. My 90 VR has the Motor Trike trike kit and I do not have the easy-steering front end. The only time you have to really think about turning is on a freeway ramp, the ones with the long flat curves and you may be at something faster than 25 mph. On the highway at highway speeds and turning corners in town at slow speeds it's no problem. Mine also has drum brakes in the rear and the systems have not been split-----yet. On some highways my trike would pull to the right but I adjusted the setting on the rear coil over shocks, one on each side, and that eliminated the problem. I still have a small Vulcan two-wheeler that I ride on the country roads just for fun but the trike will spoil you, it's sooo nice.
  6. You probably have to try them both and decide. I believe you will like riding a trike, I've had mine 3 months and it's sooo nice. It took me about 30 minutes of in town riding to get used to it, you don't have to put a foot down at a light, don't have to worry so much about loose gravel cornering and it's so much safer on wet roads. I would suggest you get the easy steering upgrade to make turning sharp corners easier. I also have a small two wheeler for riding on the country roads but after riding the trike you really have to think when you ride on two wheels. Keep me posted on what you decide to ride.
  7. Here are some pictures of the trike I purchased "as is" a few months back. I've put about 700 miles on it and the last 200 have been trouble free, more or less and I couldn't have done it without all the help from the members of this orginization and the technical section. 8. Is there a simple way, or instructions for a non-computer guy to post pictures? I have them on my computer but haven't found the correct button to download them to a post, did I say non-computer guy.
  9. I need to replace the front u-joint, mine is a trike so I have two. After reading the tech talk it sounds like after removing the driveshaft you then remove the entire u-joint yoke from the bike, is that correct? Looks like the front part of the yoke is bolted to a transmission output shaft, do you remove that shaft and if so how? I also read that there may be other U-joints that will work as well as the OEM, any thoughts? As ususal all the advice is good and thanks.
  10. Retirement is a great thing, do the things you always wanted to do. Have a great time and enjoy the ride. I've been retired 4 years now having worked 45 years just so I could retire. Never owned a bike until I retired but that was in the plan all along and the wait was worth it. Now I have two, a Venture Royale trike, it's my go places ride and a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 that I ride on the back roads and enjoy the view.

    i am needy

I hope that didn't break while your were riding. Sorry I couldn't get down your way yesterday, still working some kinks out of the trike and I want to get it lined out before a long ride, well 100 miles is a long ride for me, perhaps this weekend.
  12. Can anyone tell me if the mufflers from a 99-2004 Road Star will fit on a 90 Venture Royale. After reading one of the posts on Khrome Works I went to there web site and they have a set of mufflers marked down from $325 to $100. Does anyone run these mufflers and how do you like the sound?
  13. Thanks, thought I had done that. Will update again. It's a 90 Venture Royale and it's triked. Update, tried to update profile but it won't take the info, must be doing something wrong???
  14. Well my as-is project continues, what started out as a simple dragging starter repair has now turned into a water pump overhaul as I found oil in the water. I have a couple questions that I couldn't find answers to in the Tech. talk. How much slack is there supposed to be in the plastic gear that runs the pump, where mine sits on the pin there is noticable slack, is that normal? How many other places are there where oil can get into the water besides the head gaskets and which are the most likely? My trike has 44,800 miles on it. Also I did find a crack in the water seal, hard to believe oil can get into the water through that hair line crack. As usual any help is appreciated.
  15. This sounds nice, I'm new to the group and this sounds like a good opportunity to put a name to a face.
  16. If it helps any my 90 VR gets between 25-28 average in town and on the highway. As was noted my mpg really drops at highway speed. Oh, by the way mine is a trike, more weight and more surface area with the trike but as others have said I like to ride and the trike is a lot easier on old legs.
  17. Just wanted to say thanks to those that helped with my problem, when I jacked up the front end I could see it was bottoming out, duh---must be my gray blond roots showing!!! Installed a set of Progressive fork springs, thanks also to the tech. talk where there are nice instructions/photos, and was out testing it in less than a hour. The more I ride the trike the more I like it, getting more and more dangerous to ride my two wheeler, forgetting to put my feet down when I stop. As a new guy to the group it's nice to have so many willing to help. I also understand I'm supposed to post some pictures of the trike but will have to get my 9 year old grandson to help with that task. Thanks again for the help.
  18. Thanks Brad and Rick, checked the travel on the fork tubes and it travels 1 1/8 inch before you hear the knock. Is that enough travel to be bottoming out? I'm assuming it's holding air as the air ride system pressure holds where I have it set at 18 psi. What about the oil level in the forks?
  19. Just purchased, in "as is" condition, a 90 Venture Royale with a motor trike conversion. This is a really nice ride but it has a knock in the front end when you hit a good bump in the road. It sounds like metal to metal in the fork tubes. I've checked the triple tree and it's tight and the forks hold air, any thoughts from the experts.
  20. Thanks for all the input, actually everyone was right on and it helped resolve the "bad new" battery problem, never had one before. Another "new" Interstate battery and it fired right up, thanks again.

  22. Just purchased a 1990 Venture Royale trike one of those "as is" deals. Had to jump it to start as the battery was dead. I trailered it home and with a new battery attempted to start. When you turn the key on it goes through the checks, the red warning light comes on and the display says battery. The battery voltage drops from 12.5 to 3+ the lights are dim and I haven't hit the starter yet. Sounds like the switch has gone to ground, is that possible or is there something I'm missing. Thanks
