  1. Joe Rocket Meteors, waterproof, comfortable, light, and easy to get on and off. Ron
  2. Glad to hear it, keep us posted on how you like it as you put on the miles. I like the option they have of a preload dial. Ron:)
  3. I just have the singles, the double ones would be tight again the mirror, and not usable even if it fit on the resevoir. I'd drop him a line and see when he's manufacturing more. Ron
  4. He's a great guy to deal with, very "shipping friendly" to Canadians. Ron
  5. I've had nine bikes over the years, most of the Hondas. All were great bikes, bulletproof reliable. Most recently I owned a 2006 Honda ST1300, and a 2000 Valk Interstate. Both were wonderful bikes in their own right, but I've never owned a bike that fits me as well as well as my RSV. I've ridden a 1000 km in a day, I get off and feel great. Although not as quick as my previous two Hondas, power is adequate. Especially when comparing to the ST1300, it just feels like it has more character, less like an efficient appliance, not to mention all the plastic that needs to be removed when performing maintenance or adding accessories. I would imagine the new Wing to be similar both in nature, and to work on. Just my thoughts, Ron:scratchchin:
  6. I have these on my brake and clutch resevoirs. http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_119&products_id=8&zenid=m98r2282r3nf8s1tjkfqs0ah30
  7. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=42&Category_ID=14&manufacturer_ID=557&product_ID=29500&sblid_name=Ohlins_Rear_Shocks__S__DR_LS____Royal_Star_____and_current__for_Yamaha_1300_Royal_Star_Venture_ Hi Guys, was looking at the Cruiser Customizing site today, and if it's accurate, it appears we have another alternative from Ohlin, including one with a remote preload adjuster. Their products are generally found on high end bikes with a real reputation for quality, so if it's true, this is great news. Ron
  8. Having had a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate, and test ridden all the bikes you are considering, I think you will be sorry you made the switch for the sake of change. I wouldn't take any of those bikes over yours. Hopefully Yamaha will get it's act together within a coule of years, and use the new V-max engine to build another great Venture. Ron
  9. You're a very talented guy, nicely done!
  10. The worst thing I could say about any Honda I've owned is that the ST 1300 was a pain in the ass to work on, costantly removing little plastic push pins ro remove body work. Other than that, they were rock solid. Ron
  11. I live in the Interior of British Columbia, all mountain roads. I ridden my 06 30,000 km the last two years and only hit the boards perhaps a dozen times. You still have a fair amout lean angle after the boards touch as they flip up. I'm not sure riding two up, as my wife isn't very heavy, I don't think it's that much different with her aboard. I don't ride aggressively with someone riding pillion, I can't imagine going down and hurting someone who puts their trust in my riding. I came off a Honda ST1300 and Valkyrie Interstate prior to this bike, and don't find it that much different in the twisties. It's heavy, and doesn't turn in as quickly, and naturally doesn't transition as smoothly on fast S type curves. The front end is a bit more vague when pushed hard, especially when the tires have more than about 10000-12000 kms. Remember, I'm talking at extremes here, a posted 60 km at 110 and up, on roads that I'm familiar with. I ride with buddies on 1200GS BMW's, and can hang with them on all but the absolute twistiest roads, they are actually quite amazed. It's by far the most comfortable bike I have ever owned with decent performance and fun factor built in. Hope that helps, Ron
  12. Pure One 14610, or Bosch 3323. All the same one's that fit your Venture fit your Honda.
  13. What a huge waste of time, absolutely nothing new. I'm glad I'm not a Yamaha dealer out there trying to compete with the other manufacturers. Ron
  14. That model has been on there site for weeks, along with the 2012 Tenere. Ron
  15. I went to the American Yamaha website this morning looking for any news regarding new bikes for 2012. As I suspected, not much there. They do have a schedule of demo days starting in Colorado on Sept 8/2011. You'd think they would have their new models to roll out at these events. Has anyone heard of when they may announce their new line-up? Ron:confused24:
  16. I have a Hagon tire pressure monitor system, Elite 3's with 40 PSI in both tires. When running 70 MPH in the Arizona and Nevada desert, I was regularly seeing 55-58 PSI in the rear, 44-48 PSI in the front. I think the rear runs hotter due to more weight (really loaded with camping gear), and the fact the front tire is more exposed to the air flow. Hope that helps, Ron:322:
  17. I had a 2000 Interstate, and concur with everything said above. I bought an ST1300 on a whim (smoking good deal)and replaced the Valk. HUGE mistake!! I'd probably still be riding it. I have to say my current Venture's riding position is the most comfortable of any bike I've been on. You'll probably want to get an Ultimate or Mustang seat if the previous owner hasn't already. I found the seat was crap. Ron
  18. I suspect Yamaha's designers was attempting to provide an easy clutch pull for the cruising crowd when they put this weaker spring in this detuned V-max engine. I think they underestimated the effect of the additional windage and considerable additional weight. Anyways, it's a cheap fix, even if you get a mechanic to install the upgraded components, whichever one's you choose. Ron
  19. I have SkyDoc's upgrade too, and my discs were already "blueing" at 30000 KMS. I put in the upgraded components, and rode to Arizona and back in June, works great. Ron
  20. RoadHouse has gone out of business, some dealers may have leftover inventory or access to some. Here some to check that used to carry some. Also, check the Royal Star forum on Delphi, there was a fellow trying to sell a near new set a couple of months ago. http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ http://www.hellrisercustoms.com/bikes/royalstar/category/Exhaust/subcat/Exhaust http://www.sscustomcycle.com/ Good luck, Ron:)
  21. Its awesome oil, I've run it in my last 3 bikes, my Porsche 944S2, and Ford Ranger. The lower viscosity number isn't relevant as it's only that light at around 35 degrees F. Here's an excellent oil link. http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html Ron:322:
  22. Just saw this thread and am so saddened. I don't know Ponch personally, but had the pleasure of dealing with him through this site. My thoughts are with him and his family, for a speedy and full recovery. Ron:fingers-crossed-emo
  23. Same here, use plexus on it, stays clear. Ron
