  1. Here on the curvy roads of B.C., I've never got 20000 Km on any tire, on any bike, that I've owned. I would bet they are more than half worn. Ron
  2. Two here: 1981 Honda CBX Super Sport 2006 Black Cherry RSV, Cheers. Ron
  3. http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/02/22/yamaha-star-royal-star-venture-best-used-bikes/ Cycle world just picked it as a "best used bike". I agree with their assessment. Ron:080402gudl_prv:
  4. That Vanocker road is a really nice ride with lots of smooth sweepers. We really enjoyed that and rode it a couple of times.
  5. I went a month before the rally just to avoid the crowds. It's pretty busy there in the summer as it is, never mind adding 400000 people to the mix. We camped on the east entrance to Custer Park at the Spokane Creek campsite, and day rode the whole area for 5 days, really relaxed, and lots of sights. I guess it depends what you're into, the rally thing kinda gets old fast for me. Ron P.S. we rode down from B.C., Wyoming was beautiful!
  6. The tall one quiet quiets down the buffetting my wife gets on the back, it does help a lot. Ron
  7. I have the taller one, works great for me. I don't use the upper section very often, only when it's cold and I'm riding two up. That shield is also 4 inches wider which I really like, as it keeps the bugs and cold off my arms and shoulders. Very nice quaility shield. Ron
  8. Voyager = Slow, couldn't pull a skin off of pudding. No clearance on corners, excessive heat. Nice looking though. By the way, the section in Cycle Magazine was " best USED bike". Ron
  9. I've had two sets of E-3's, and both have lasted 15000-20000 KMS, in quite extreme conditions. By extreme I mean they were ridden in hot weather (85F to 100F) on twisty roads at pretty high speeds. They only time they ever got a little louder was when riding prolonged stretches of superslab as they flattened out. As soon as I got back in the mountains the tire edges burned off, and they quieted down.. They do handle predictably well, hold their pressures well, and are decent in the rain. The tires I have on presenltly are a mixture of an E-3 on the front, with a Michelin Commander on the back. I was lured into trying the Commander by the manufacturer's promise of high mileage durability, but have found I don't like the handling of the mixture of tires in the wet. It doesn't feel as sure footed as with straight E-3's, I suspect it has something to do with the Commander being a dual compound tire. Regards, ron
  10. I don't know about Honda staying so relevant, Goldwing, no change from 02-2011, Honda ST1300, no change from 02-present( different color every year, sound familiar?). I just think these bikes are low volume, compared to the smaller more efficient bikes sold outside of North America.
  11. I don't know about Hydrolock on Goldwings, but it happens on other Honda bikes. From having owned a Valkyrie in the past, and currently owning a Honda CBX, I've spent a bit of time on owner forums for both these bikes, and there is quite a bit of documented dicussion around Hydrolock. Both of these bikes have an "automatic" vacumn operated petcocks prone to failure, causing fuel to flow unrestricted and fill cylinders with fuel. If your friends bike only has starter gear issues he's lucky, the accounts I've read had serious internal damage. I'm installing a small low pressure fuel pump similar to the Venture's to prevent an occurrence of this on my CBX, and ease the cold starting. Here's a link to an article on the CBX site on Hydrolock. Ron http://www.cbxworld.com/modules.php?name=NukeWrap&page=/features/tech.html
  12. I have a Commander II on the back with a Dunlop E3 on the front, didn't want a 130 on the front. Its seems to handle OK on the dry roads but felt a bit squirrelly in the wet. I'll probably go back to 2 E3's when I need new tires, the bike felt the best with those, Ron
  13. 15.1 in the quarter, I don't think so. See below: http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/technical/2012JanPerfIndx.pdf
  14. I have a '06 second gen that I run passing lamps, heated grips and a heated vest, stereo, cruise, all at once, and it supports all those fine. I have a Kuryakyn gauge that tells me the moment it's dicharging, best 30.00 I've spent. Ron
  15. We went there last year, about a month before the rally started just to avoid the crowds, we camped at the eastern entrance to the park, and rode all the local roads every day from there. I can't imagine trying to ride the area effectively during the rally, there was enough traffic at the end of June.
  16. I had a 06 Honda ST1300, was a really nice bike. For riding solo, pretty hard to beat. My wife did nort really care for riding on the back, she was spoiled by the Valkyrie Interstate that we had prior to the ST. Sport Touring bikes are way more fun to ride, the handling is so much nicer. I still have an older '81 Honda CBX for the days when I'm feeling frisky. That bike handles almost as well as my ST did. Ron:)
  17. I forgot about the lighting,I have this plug and play LED tailight, it's intense! http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm
  18. You can get a progressive pump at a Harley dealer that's good up to sixty pounds (max. for rear shocks is 57lbs.) I have the leveling links as well, make a big difference in low speed handling, and turns in quicker at speed as well. Some people go with a 130 front tire and like it, I just wouldn't do both. Ron:080402gudl_prv: P.S. I'm about your size and run 4lbs. in the front and about 35 in the rear, seems to be the best compromise between ride quality and handling for me.
  19. Glad to hear you are reasonably O.K.! That's my greatest fear living around here. Deer EVERYWHERE. I hate even driving my car at sunset. Ron
  20. Sounds good, I'll have to give that a try next time I'm through there.
  21. Panorama is actually a ski resort community located in the East Kootenay Mtn. near the town of Invermere. The valley actually became known as a destination famous for it's hot springs and mineral pools. The best known ones are Radium, Myette, and Fairmont. In the last twenty years there has been an explosion of world class golf courses built in that area with of course the requisite condo development etc. For golf courses, google Grey Wolf, Springs at Radium, Riverside, to name a few. For shopping, none of the communities are particularly large, however lots of artsy, pottery, etc. Hope that helps. Ron:080402gudl_prv:
  22. Bagger shield is a nice high quality product, I'm very happy with mine. With the sale they are having now, I can't see you making one much cheaper.
  23. That is a nice bike, that 1300 runs pretty strong too, the tourer version goes down the 1/4 mile in about the same time as a Venture according to Motorcycle Comsumer News.
  24. I've had one on all my bikes, crusie control isn't very useful in the mountains. Ron
  25. Yes the ones I used are extremely bright. My B-I-L who i ride with says you can see them a long ways away even daylight. See here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72438
