  1. Does anyone here with a Rivco centerstand also have the leveling links installed? Does it work OK with the links? Thanks, Ron
  2. Thanks for checking with your friend. I live in an area in the interior of B.C. where we are prone to have forest fires, and when you read the press they always make it more spectacular than what's actually happening. I think we'll just go as planned, and if it's really bad we'll head east. Thanks again, Ron
  3. I just read about some forest fires in the area, just wondering how bad it is for smoke and stuff. I am heading for Calgary, Alta on Sunday, and then supposed to be heading into your area on Tuesday. I'm just wondering if we should change our plans and head somewhere else if it's really unpleasant. Any info would be appreciated. Ron
  4. I beg to differ as well. I used Dyna Beads and they DO work. Ron
  5. I have an undrilled set, they sound just right, wouldn't want them any louder. I'm heading out for South Dakota on Sunday pulling my one wheeled trailer, hope it doesn't reflect more sound back at me.
  6. Mine does the same thing, and living in Kamloops heat, it's pretty much like that all the time.
  7. Nope, they overlap. Nice quality shield, really reduces buffetting for the pilion when in the tall position. The addition width takes the wind off your arms and keeps them drier in the rain. Ron
  8. +1 on Baggershield, nice to have options depending on conditions, mainly when riding 2-up. Ron
  9. Last summer I rode down through Northern California and Nevada to Arizona on the high plains and quite a bit of riding was over 6000 ft above sea level. I noticed a loss of power over 7000 ft. periodically requiring grabbing a lower gear on climbs or when passing other vehicles. My riding companion said he'd see a puff of black when I really got on it, so she was running pretty rich. He was riding an '08 Suzuki Bandit (fuel injected) and didn't experience any power loss. It wasn't a huge problem, just be aware when you're passing that you don't have the normal ooomph you normally have. My bike normally lives at 2100 ft here in Kamloops and runs normal to about 6000 ft the way it's set up. Ron
  10. I had a '04 V-Star 1100 and installed the Vance and Hines slip-ons. I though they just sounded loud and obnoxious, no performance gain. After doing a lot of research, I installed a Roadhouse 2 into 1 full system with the Maxair pod and jet system. It was a different bike. Nice subdued rumble and huge performance gain. It just opened that little motor up. Roadbike magazine did the same upgrade and dyno'ed the bike and got a 15% performance gain. That's huge. Apparently Roadhouse is out of business, you might find a supplier with some left over inventory. Cobra makes a 2 into 1 for that bike that I've heard performs as well, although I couldn't tell you how it sounds. Ron
  11. Thanks for the replies guys. I do pull a one wheel trailer, and occasionally ride two up with my wife. I installed the leveling links that quickened up the bike's handling response and didn't want to go with the 130 front tire in addition. It might make it unstable, it's good now. I thought of going with Avons, but I deal with a one man shop (awesome mechanic) and he doesn't have access to them. I prefer to buy from him, so I decided to go with the Michelin and another Dunlop on the front. The tread actually looks pretty similar. Most of what I have read indicates it's fine to mix brands, as long as the are both bias or both radials. We'll see I guess.
  12. I just ordered a new Commander II along with a new Dunlop E-3 to replace my existing E-3's as Michelin doesn't make a 150 for the front. Anyone done this yet? Ron
  13. From a previous post by another forum member "Dave" The notes I have seen state that P/N ending in -95 -95A -98 -98A are non catalytic. Don't get the ones ending in -07.
  14. I'm running an undrilled '05 set, and they sound great. I'm glad I didn't drill them as they got louder after 10000 KM. Mine were virtually brand new when I put them on. I'd recommend putting them on undrilled initially, and ride with them for a while. Then if you find them not loud enough for your liking, drill them out. Ron:080402gudl_prv:
  15. I received my Baggershield on Saturday, and installed it that night. It went on in about 20 minutes, everything fit perfectly. We took the bike over to Salmon Arm this morning, was about 10 degrees C. with a strong headwind. We started out with the shield in the low position as I wanted to see the difference with it short and tall. I Immediately got more weather protection as the Baggershield is 4 in. wider than my Cee Bailey shield, but my wife was getting buffetted pretty badly on the back. After a few miles we pulled over and installed the tall section, took a couple of minutes. For me on the front it provided a nice quiet pocket of air, for my wife on the back, she noticed quite an improvement. I still don't like looking through a windshield, so will only use the upper section in exteme weather, or when riding two up in colder weather. Overall I fell its a quality product, and nice option to have when on the road. It actually looks pretty nice with the dark tint and the black cherry color. Ron
  16. http://www.duracool.com/ I use this stuff in my vehicles, similar to propane, works great. You can go right from R-12 with no conversions. It'll freeze your left one right off. Apparently not sold in America, however Americans can buy on line direct from them. Ron
  17. Looking at the new Michelin Commander, it is very similar in appearance to the Elite 3. I've run the Elite 3's my last two sets, they have been good handling and have lasted about 20000 KMS. I think this time I'll try a Commander on the rear, with an Elite 3 front to see it I can get better mileage out of the rear as Michelin claims.
  18. Wow, hope I like the shield as much as the service. Ordered last night, got and E-mail saying my order have shipped at 8:04 A.M.
  19. I just ordered the large Baggershield windshield. I already have the same size shield (10.5 inch) now but would be nice for it to be a little wider. This new shield is about 4 inches wider than my current Cee Bailey. My wife gets alot of turbulence on the back with this shield. Hopefully the wider shield helps with that. I'll report back when I get the shield installed. Ron
  20. Well the weather finally co-operated today and I got a chance to go out and try towing the new trailer. I put a full size golf bag and clubs in it for some weight. I was a little nervous having read posts regarding the difficulty of low speed handling with a one wheel trailer that some have posted earlier. Now, I have a set of the Diamond R leveling links that were recently installed, and maybe that makes it easier, but I had no issues. I went to a busy gas station and rode around the pumps at walking speed no problem. I went to a side street and pulled a cuople of U-turns, easy as pie. Next, it was out to the highway for some experimentation. Cautiously and gradually, I did lane changes and crossed uneven pavement eventually running up to 160 kph, you don't even know it is there. My only complaint is that I can barely see it in the mirrors, it could come off and I might not notice. I'm totally happy overall. Ron:cool10:
  21. Here's a graph I found somewhere that shows the hypothetical speed for a Venture based on it's gearing and RPM. I seriously doubt these bikes could pull redline in 5th gear.
  22. Well firstly, the speedos on our bikes are all out around 10 per cent, so if you bike indicates 125 MPH , you'e really only going around the 114 MPH that their testing equipment reads. Some variance would have to do with altitude and temperature when tested. Ron
  23. The rack's only 16 x 10, and will only carry a small cooler, either a soft side or L'il Oscar by Coleman. During the day riding I will carry very little in it, maybe a a couple of bottles of water and a little ice. I usually stop on the way to the campground and pick up ice and beer. I'll post pics when it's hooked up to the bike. I was going to go for a ride tonight after work but the weather is looking kind of wet:( so we'll see. Ron
  24. I agree with you Brian, I was only interested in a trailer that allows me to pretty much ride as I do without one. I live in mountainous area with curvy roads. I can't imagine riding here with something that affects the lines I take in the twisties, would suck the fun out of riding for me. Unfortunately, some of the secondary fun roads have less than perfect pavement, so I want something that follows me. My trailer wouldn't have the capacity of a two wheel trailer, but I don't see myself ever needing to take along that much stuff. However with this trailer, I CAN take my golf clubs. (BAG) If this one creates a little more effort at slow speed, so be it. I've a had a number of large heavy motorcycles including a Valkyrie Interstate and this Venture, and knock on wood, haven't dropped one yet. ( A few close calls!) I worked on my trailer tonight, got safety chains installed, all it needs is the rear fender. I'm building that out of a chunk of stainless, it just needs to be bent at a machine shop. Then I'm going to polish it to add a little bling. I've attached some pics of the near finished product. Tomorrow I hope to take her out for her maiden ride, and report back. Cheers, Ron:fingers-crossed-emo P.S. I really like the flexibility of your open design, I still have an axel and hub left... Hummmm......
