Tie-down location on RSTD?
massey130 replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
when i installed my wheel chock, it did the same as yours - nearly holds the bike up all by itself. it held my front tire about 3 or 4 inches in the air in that cradle. i did not like that at all. with the condition of Louisiana roads, that would be tore up in a new york minute. so i took out the cradle thingy. also, if the cradle thingy gives out & the bike drops a few inches, your straps become loose and disaster will be striking soon there after. with only the handle bars strapped, the bad can only get worse. that is why i have the back straps there - insurance. about your crash bars - with the bike on the trailer, strap the front securley and use a ratchet strap to pull your crash bar back in place. it is that easy. i just had to re do my front crash bar after going into a ditch. i was surprised how easy it is to bend 'em up, down, forward and backward. don't use heat, just pull em a bit at a time - release check - pull some more - check - you get the idea. I used a wood block and a 3 pound sledge hammer to bend mine up and forward. Dale in La -
Fan - 2003 Yamaha Royal Star Venture
massey130 replied to VentureT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
this may be something i should look into. the previous owner put a switch in line with my fan. he said run it if you want, run it now & then or leave it off. i did not give it another thought. when i turn the switch to on - the fan will run until i turn off the switch or the ignition. since it shouldbe a temp sensor turning it on or off, that makes me wonder if i have something else going on with my cooling system. any thoughts? we live in the country & i guess there are people who think they should drop off their dogs to folks in the country when they no longer want them. we would have a herd of dogs if we kept them. so we bring them to the animal shelter in a day or so after we fatten them up. we just can't keep 'em. however, a weiner dog was dropped off at our deer hunting lease. good looking dog. nice coat, descent deamenor. so we decided to adopt it. long story short, after 300.oo bucks (why is that a popular vet bill number?) we began treating the dog for heart worms. well the weiner gave our registered expensive miniature schnauzer heart worms and by the time it was discovered, it was too late. the weiner lived and & our beloved pet of 8 years died. the weiner was left at the vet. we don't adopt or keep after that.

Motus - “a next-generation American V4 face-melter.”
massey130 replied to RandyR's topic in Watering Hole
I bet they read all the venture rider forums, gathered up what the suggestions we have on this site & built a bike around that. what we will see is the RSV a lot of folks on this site have been asking for. a fuel injected, nitrous ready 4 cylinder with a lot of storage space. and a tach. -
since no one wants to come out & say it - I will. The official CB channel for Venture Rider members is channel 29. If there are any objections, please express them on channel 19.

Tie-down location on RSTD?
massey130 replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Shipper, i am sorry i read the thread title quickly. my project is for an RSV not TD. there may be similarities with the 2 bikes that may work. i know the canyon dancer handle bar device will work on the TD. i don't use the rear crash bars - i save those for crashes. good thing i have not used them for that yet. dale in La. -
Tie-down location on RSTD?
massey130 replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
i use the canyon dancer handle bar holder. i then attach my ratchet strap to the canyon dancer and to an eyelet bolted to the front corner of my trailer. for the rear location, i attach to the frame just forward of where the the rear crash bar attaches to the frame and the other end of the rear ratchet strap goes forward to another eyelet that is bolted to the trailer. both front & rear straps on each side pull forward keeping the bike in the chock. just the canyon dancer on the handlebar is sufficient, but i believe that more is good, so i tie off at the rear for that "just in case" peace of mind. I have not added a part to the trailer, but i want a welded hook where i can run my locking steel cable through the rear tire and frame. i have a thread where i have just completed my trailer this past weekend with 2 pictures. Well, i say complete, i still need to add the piece for my locking cable. I need to re pack the bearings as i know it has been awhile. click the search button at the top right of the page and search for transformer. i transformed my utility trailer to a M/C trailer. make sure your tie down straps clear the bike and have no rub spots. When it comes to my expensive motorcycle, spending up to a hundred bucks or so is a small investment to keep the bike on the trailer. Dale in La -
well, my 2 cents - you purchased low which enables you to sell profitably. you are not financially strapped. you have a gem of a bike with a color you are not fond of. your son WAS the finance manager, so selling doesn't create ill feelings with the dealership. they have a smaller chance of knowing their profit was rolled off to you. 1. keep it, as is, ride until paid for, then tuck it in a corner of your shop & buy the RSV in the color you want. or if you can afford 2 notes, just tuck it away & buy the color you want. 2. sell it and get the RSV in a color you want and have a better down payment. i agree with the opinions offered concerning not making changes to a limited edition. It just makes the other 1400 bikes rarer & more valuable if yours gets painted. since i don't want to have to choose between 2 bikes sitting in the garage, i would sell & purchase the color i want or buy a bike that painting won't affect the value like the MM.

Snarley Bill: how do you know he was racing. sounds like you were the one racing. we all know the signs. there is a difference between that & someone in a hurry. I could have just let him roll on by. then again, i didn't want the driver going around with a story that was not accurate. this is a small town. i have the only RSV here among the 3 or 4 crotch rockets & 2 harleys. i'd rather not race. i just want to enjoy my ride. when younger, i have a camaro Z that was quick. i learned a lot from those dayz. Don't get me wrong, it was fun. it just won't be habit.

Auestion for the Truck Drivers Out There (about passing)
massey130 replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
I would like to know this as well. getting this information from their point of view will make traveling safer for everyone and keep this part of road rage to a minimum. I have a feeling that one comment would be for the cyclist to be far back enough as to be seen in the truck's side view mirror with our blinker on as we gain speed to close the gap before switching lanes for a clear pass. yesterday i was leaving my little rural town headed for the bigger city 32 miles down the road. i was sitting at the last red light in town with a PTCruiser next to me - the light turned green. i was no more thinking about racing than the man in the moon. reaching nornal end of first gear, i pulled in the clutch when this PTCruiser comes roaring up ( not really roaring, but doing its best) with that "I am gonna take you on" attitude. i know the driver can't see the smile on face, but it is there as i think "WTF is this?" thank goodness for the gradually getting faster speed limits heading out of town. as i nailed the throttle - hit 2nd gear on up, i saw the PTC get smaller in my mirror till it disappeared. all this in a matter of about, oh, 5 seconds. What is the deal with some drivers? anyone have a similar experience? Dale in Louisiana

How many different combinations of pizza are there? each one has its own taste. some tastes we like, others we don't like. if you don't like the sound of a particular motorcycle, don't buy it. if you like a motor bike, then buy into it. same for pizza, buy into the one you like. the nice thing is we can all avoid / ignore / outrun the sounds and tastes of things or people we don't like. just remember that people that like your sound or your tastes in other area of life appreciate you more than you may think. it is a fire that should not be snuffed, but fueled as regularly as a smooth running motorcycle. I like my RSV and its sound. i like the folks so far on this site. unfortunately, pizza is not on my diet so i try not to think about it.

If the trailer tire did not come with a spare - a practice trip to a store in the area that will carry spare tire already on a rim. I get mine from Academy. and it will be someting to put in the trailer unless there is a mount for one. Dale in La. p.s. nice rig, i had looked at that & thought how nice a package it is. i am glad you got it.

Transformer - utility trailer to M/C trailer - pics
massey130 replied to massey130's topic in Watering Hole
well, my wife wants to be able to trailer somewhere and then ride if it works out better that way. keeping options open keeps things running as smooth as the RSV!!!!! -
I finished converting my old utility trailer to a motorcycle trailer. only 2 pics came out, cause the camera fogged coming from the cool house to hot outside. i took off the factory tailgate so ramps can be used. i still need 3 ramps, 1 for each foot while i drive up the middle. once i do this a few times, i won't need the foot ramps - but till then.... so once the bike was on the trailer, I put the canyon dancer handle bar holder in place to figure out where my eye hook for the straps would go & same for rear straps that hold the back side. I put the back strap hook on the frame not far from where the back crash bar is & then figure where the eye hook on the trailer should go. they both went more forward than i had thought, but what the hey. the front wheel chock had that cradle thingy. after finally getting the RSVoff the trailer - that wheel chock cradle thingy came off next. they seem cool while you are shopping for them, but it doesn't work for me. next came new lights, plug and wiring for the trailer. i added zip ties that have the extra hole so you can screw then down. i added 3 of those to keep wire hang to a minimum. this gave me a chance to re-do how my new jack was placed on the trailer tougne. i put it on a few days ago when i really did not have the time to do it right. i just wanted it on there. well today it is on there right. this was a fun project & every thing went smooth. that was scary - normally i go somewhere for something almost twice when doing a project. I now feel a lot better knowing i am setup to haul our bike when and where necessary. now, if i can get some riding time in??????? Dale in Louisiana.

now that is a great idea for a parade. then tie wrap flags to the back, get some shields and swords for the chariot riders - - - - but would their medieval helmets have to be DOT???

In my neck o' the woods, there don't seem to be that many. people will call the previous owner & ask what he was doing off of work riding around town. since then some time has passed he doesn't get anymore calls. I do get a lot of looks & many comments. I see a lot bikes, but the minority are touring bikes & few RSV's. at the local yammy shop in Lake Charles, La, i only saw one RSV among the Star bikes on the floor. the accessories were NONE and of all the bikes on the sales floor, only 2 or 3 did not have a sign that read "DO NOT SIT ON THIS MOTORCYLE". I did not stay long because the few helmets there, none we my size. dale in La

i was expecting to see pictures of a venture bike with fairing, cowling & fenders removed with no idea how to put it back together.

the blue max chairs don't look too awful bad for the price. maybe a group buy would bring the price down really nicely.

Heck, i was happy to go 15 miles just for a test ride after putting my bike together. filled up the tank as i hit reserve 1/2 mile from from home. it was a short run, but man did it feel good.
