  1. i am lucky to be mechanically inclined. our RSV is my 4th bike. after we bought it, i found this site. i have several hobbies that i enjoy and belong to other sites. this site just beats the paint off the competition's gas tank. once i saw the resources in the libraries and the forum help from other members, it was a no brainer to pony up the dues. then i began reading the forums and found how the comradery was here. there is none of the other kinds of word exchanges that go on with other sites, especially the general open forums. the ability to go to a Meet, greet then eat is something you just can't get with other forums. as with people, the differences in opinions can make for hearty conversations, but the folks here know when it is the decent time to drop some discussions (although it may be with the help of the moderators). And for that, i thank everyone. With our current schedules, getting to a Meet & Eat is tough but we hope to make some. dale in La.
  2. that is just great. congratulations Rob. you will enjoy it. i don't know if you like tinkering with them or not, but if you do & this is your only bike, you are in for a treat. i had to wait a few days before i took possession of our white 04 RSV, but i was in a similar boat. I just could not wait to get my paws on the handle bars to drive it home. even if it was only 5 miles. waiting on pictures - - - - dale in La
  3. the amber is nice. good reach for the glow it gives.
  4. must be that time of year i ran the RSV in the ditch - fixed myself for 6 buck in epoxy and muscle on the front crash bar, the re asseble. septic system GFIC outside outlet Blew - i fixed it for 25 bucks - funny thing is, on the last service call, the septic guy placed the outlet on the "floor" of the pump houseing, where ants eventually built a mound & filled the outlet with dirt as well - then poof. after fixing it, i put it back where i should be - hanging over the pump housing. in the air & away from the elements I found this out after binding my table saw blade in the shop & tripping the breaker. upon going to reset the breaker, i found the septic breaker thrown as well. Then there was the lawn mower. when buying parts for it, i bought parts for the weed wacker that had been burning my elbow for a couple of weeks. Yes, it comes in 3's - - - but this 3 a week garbage has got to go!!! dale in La.
  5. i am interested. i would want to use them to light the sides of the road and possibley as marker lights for side & rear. the L.E.D. light technology seems to be getting better & better. thanks for the tip dale in La.
  6. that is not a bad idea to cut a bit off at a time till you find what works best. i may try to get my hands on another stock shield & trim it down some. i tend to ride solo more so than 2 up. i could swap em out when needed. thanks for the idea. Dale in La
  7. i use an excel spreadsheet that is on my flash drive. then i use the password feature to encrypt the sheet. when i need credentials i can't remember, i open the spreadsheet after supplying a password. i had a friend who kept their passwords in their phone. the phone was picked up at a bar. it was bad, but not a disaster as the friend sobered up quickly & started making phone calls to credit cards centers and the bank when it opened. it was an expensive phone let alone the information that it carried. i don't keep passwords in my computer or stored on a web site. wheni clean my browser up, i clean the password storage just in case.
  8. prayers sent.
  9. when i purchased our RSV, it had the short shield on it & the taller factory shield was put in a bag with the other stuff that came with the purchase. I rode around with the shorty for awhile & it was Ok, but Debbie said she had a lot of wind. i put the tall one on & i liked it better that she did not get near the buffetting. after getting my M/C jacket, i would prefer the short shield as this "made for hot weather riding jacket" is much hotter than advertised or the tester did not ride in southeast Louisiana. so, for me either way seems ok. it is nice to have both. 10. Last week i had wrote stating i bought some of those yamaha branded highway foot pegs for our bike & was asked to let ya'll know how i liked them. with my size 8 shoe/boot & a short (28") inseam, the pegs are great for me. i have them angled inward and my boots fit in the stirrup section quite nicely while my heel rests on the floorboard. if i need to stretch some to catch a bit more breeze or find a different foot placement, the spike end of the peg rests nicely in the middle of the ball of the foot. i tend to shuffle around so i am always moving from floor board to peg. others who are larger in stature wished me luck with these & i am satisfied with them. I can see where a larger boot print and longer legs would not like these pegs. a big plus is that they do look great on the bike in replacement of the universal foot pegs that came on the bike. thanks for all the input & from the differences in pricing stated in the previous post, i only paid 5 bucks more than necessary. of the other shopping blunders i have experienced - 5 bucks was a bargain. 11. this is my 4th bike in my lifetime. last one 25 years ago was a Kawa Ninja. then a month or so ago, we purchased this o4. the owner would only let me test ride it between me handing him the cash for the bike & signing the paperwork at the notary. that way if i had an accident, it was my bike that was wrecked. that made enough sense to me so i was ok with that. when i test drove it, it did not make any unusual noise other than motor sounds that any other bike would make, so we then signed the paper work. So far i have about 250 miles on it. I have been fortunate that is only makes motor sounds. there is no chirping or whining. what is on the inside besides oil, i wouldn't know. i turn the throttle & it goes. i do wear a full face with J&M headset installed. dale in La.
  12. you don't get the money she owes you. you are getting out of dutch with the IRS. the money she owes you goes to jail with her, leaving you peace and time for the relationship now to grow. don't ask me how i know this.
  13. a cajun ah-eee to you. just ride safe and avoid road rash syndrome. got to be careful that if life doesn't get you in the wash, watch out for the rinse cycle. (pun intended) Dale in La
  14. i just ordered one of these - http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=116&manufacturer_ID=11&product_ID=36663&sblid_name=Rivco_Chrome_Cup_Holder_Handlebar_Clamp_Mount&model_id=0 it will hold my MP3 player when not holding a water bottle. i jus' hope it works. i will mount it on my right bar. the photo is the web site's ad. dale in La.
  15. don't know as i replaced my rear pads myself. the rest of the stuff was not in need of replacement. however, you can shop the internet for prices of parts to see how much the shop marked them up. labor at my local toyota dealership is 75.oo an hour. you should be able to come up with a ball park figure what you should have paid. I want to say that this is something that you can do, however, not eveyone is mechanically inclined, so a trip to the shop is in order. what i don't like is when an unscrupulous shop gets the idea that you are not mechanically inclined, they take advantage of you. I believe that may be where you are going with your thread. I have been doing brakes on cars, bikes & trucks since my early 20's and can't understand why shops charge so much for brakework. just my 2 cents. Dale in La
  16. thanks for the input. i may have spent a few more bucks, but at least it was not 30 or 50 bucks over paying. I may try some of the rubber sticky stuff to add some texture - did not think of the slickness. they do look nice - IMHO i have a size 8 foot at the end of a 27 inch inseam. that's why the pegs are curved inward. my heel sets on the floor board and the toe of my boot/tennis shoe rests on the peg. i use my boot to direct wind up my leg. its ok that the shine wears off, the original set had the rubber rings coming off. i would like to test them out.
  17. good question, but i don't have the answer. i do hope they caught the bad guy who took the bike from a good samaritan. it is a shame he did not have a riding buddy who could have taken pursuit to follow. that's why we are in the world shape we are in.
  18. thanks. i was bummed when i had to let the first pair go cuz i just wan't gonna pay that much. some folks go plum crazy on ebay. i was happy when this set came up. Dale in La
  19. I had seen a pair of these nice foot pegs with Yamaha on them on ebay. they went for a good bit of money. then late (early) one night while serfing, i logged into ebay & found a new in the wrapper set. it was buy now or make offer. i made an offer. low n behold they were in my mailbox 4 days later. man, was I excited. i got to install them tonight. Please take a look at the universal ones that were on my bike when purchased and the new Yammy ones. i am happy to say i have less than 38 bucks in them with shipping and they look so much nicer than the universal pegs. now if the rain will ease up, i can test ride them!! Dale in La
  20. that seems a little high. i frequent pawn shops & the bins of tools are numerous. i am going to put together a tool kit from these bins. should be in the 20 to30 dollar range. i have pig leather i can make a roll pouch or pick one up at local harbor freight.
  21. these are the pegs i got. i had seen a used pair on ebay that went for more than what i was willin to pay. then i came across these which are brand new and were half the price and 5 bucks more than the 20 dollar universal highway peg.
  22. yep, you got a deal. i just my yamaha labeled foot pegs off ebay. new in package. 35 bucks including shipping. they are nice. but your stuff - great buy. glad for you.
