The primer is Polyprimer high fill. With one quart they gave me an 0.5 oz tube of hardener. I assuned that there would be directions for x many drops per x amount of paint. Any one know? Thanks Rod

I have a question on 2 part primer. How much catalyst do use per oz. of paint? I need to make small batches and could not find the answers on the manufacturers website. Thanks Rod

I have noticed that all of the gas stations around me are switching to gas pumps that will not allow you to softly pull the trigger and allowing for topping off which as we all know if important to bikes so that we do not splash gas all over the tank A trick I use is to use the boot on the nozzle to turn off the fuel. Still not foolproof but at the station next to me it works better than releasing the handle. Rod

There is a reason that we have deer population problems. No predators, habitat encroachment and abundant food. You cannot know which way a deer will jump when frightened. Ride safe, don't over ride your headlights and watch the sides of the roads. Rod -
After a lot of thinking I'm parting out my wife's bike

You might try over here http://viragotechforum.com/phpBB/portal.php Some guys swap Maxuim parts for older Viragos. Good luck Rod -
2000 RSV Ca has the same mufflers as the othere states. There was no change that I know of in the later years. Rod

For general info on the motorcycle laws in for Ca in plan english this is a good site. http://www.ducatigirl.com/california/dmv_b_roulette.html#parkmeter Rod

Here is a blurb for Calif. "according to Sargent Price in "Friction Zone": "As for parking at a meter, a motorcycle's rear tire or fender must touch the curb; and yes, you must pay for the parking space you are using. If you share the space with another car, you could be subject to citation." Technically, it sounds like two bikes sharing a metered stall would be subject to citation if all vehicles are treated equally. I have heard of cops ticketing bikes sharing spaces, particular where riders congregate and where they want to discourage this congregation. In one instance, the riders decided that if the cops were going to ticket them for more than one bike per space, then they were going to park one bike per space, which meant many spaces in an already too-hard-to-park area were unnecessarily consumed. The cops stopped the ticketing and the riders went back to multiple bikes per spot. Sometimes, only sometimes, reason does prevail." From the friction zone magazine. Downtown San Diego has some motorcycle parking marked out and there is no metering there.Rod

Wow that is good. The only down side I see is it takes electricity to work but that is not a big deal with hydro electric, solar and photo voltaic. I like it!!! Rod

The good news is the fire bypassed us on the other side of the hills. I only had to dissuade one car of looters from our neighborhood. Bad news is the fires have destroyed more area than some states. Over 1/2 million evacuated from San Diego county alone. So far all our friends have come through OK. They will be selling a lot of air filters here for a while. I think I will buy stock in Fram or Wix Rod

I'm in for 3. Also I hang two bells on the Venture on the floorboard mounts so they hang just lower than the floorboard when leaned over in the corners. Rose calls it the early warning system. You can hear the bells just before the bike starts dragging parts so it doesn't startle her. Rod
-
I just sent Rose out to our friends house with the important stuff. I have the bike loaded and ready to go. I am watching the area but will haul ass before the fire gets close. Rod

The fires are engulfing San Diego. A lot of the freeways are closed or clogged up with traffic due to the evacuations. I am safe here in Spring Valley for the moment. If any members here need help let me know. I am not working and I can help if needed. High Santa Anna winds and 90 deg temp will make this realy nasty. Rod

Has anyone here turned a first gen Venture into a Royal Star?
rod replied to a topic in General Tech Talk
Check out this idea for manifolds. Simple parts and not too hard to build. Adapt it for the V 4. http://viragotechforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7140 Rod -
I have lined a cardboard box with a trash bag and it worked good. I have an oil pan that fits under the bike and I just slide it under the bike and change the oil without the lift. Rod

Not to muddy the waters but here is what I noticed after I changed the clutch on my MM RSV. I had some whine at certain RPM's but not too bad. I just changed the clutch and it is noticeably less now. I thought it may have been the extra lube on reassembly but it has stayed the same for about 500 mi. Why the change, I have no idea. Another thing I have brought up before is disconnecting the headset made a big drop in the sound of the whine so I keep the intercom level as low as I can. My bike has an "I" basket and a friend had a 99 RSV that was louder than mine; after he had the basket changed on his; but it was less than before the change. I also got better gas milage than he did for no apperant reason. Rod

Like to ask Question on weight
rod replied to JOE MCDERMOTT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am 5'7" and 170 lbs Rose is 5'4" and ummm about the same weight. She wants the bike on the side stand when she gets on so our method: I mount up and turn handlebars to left. This makes the seat as low as it will go. I nod when I'm ready and she climbs on the back. When she gets settled she tells me "I'm ready". I turn the bars all the way to the right. When I start to pull the bike up she leans to the right to help counter balance. Up with the kickstand and we are off and riding. On slopes working together we can get the bike off the stand no problem. Rod -
When I used a Boostaroo on my GPS/MP3 player I got engine noise intermittently thru the speakers. It did the job when it was working right. Never got around to looking at it to see if it was the ground on the amp or cable but it should not be too hard to fix it when I split the faring next time. Rod
-
Just a reminder that the horn button works by grounding the horn circuit. Sounds to me like a bad ground but I have been wrong before. RF from the compressor is also possible. Good luck Rod

My 2 older brothers and I rode behind my Dad all our lives. We all got our permits when we turned 15 1/2. Some people should not ride at any age, it is more a matter of restraint and maturity than age. I have done stupid stuff on bikes but try to learn from them. Rod

It is BIG and comfortable. Some whine about the whine from the straight cut gears (some are loud some not). Some have problems with the ignition switch, rear shock, or other minor problems. EVERY bike has its quirks I like my RSV but I also like my Virago and Chopper so try it; if you like it buy it if not keep shopping. Rod
-
It depends on the rider. There are few riders that can take a bike to it's max output. While the 1st gen may be faster on paper I have not lost to one on my RSV. Dallas said He estimated 130 on his RSV before it just ran out of steam and I think that is pretty close if you have not modified any thing. It takes a lot of straight road to max out th RSV. I know 2 up and loaded with luggage 65 mph to 110 comes pretty fast, and Rose does not notice the speed. The RSV was made for comfort not speed but is still not too bad for a big bike. Rod
