1991 Mk2 VR front rotor
Squidley replied to Mike Mercury's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jack, You would have an idea of the years would you? I just swapped to the R1 on this '86 I have and the original rotors are in rough shape, I wouldn't mind finding a set of the R's on ebay if it's plug and play -
R1 and delink the brakes
Squidley posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just wanted to toss up a quick note to all the 1st genners that are thinking of delinking their front brakes and going with the R1/R6 front calipers. I just finished this mod on the '86 I currently own, and I used several different lines. The main line from the front brake master cylinder was off a 2nd gen. I sent this down to what I think was a Vmax splitter and then the R1 calipers I bought had the lines with it and I used them to the calipers. The reason I am writing about this is I ran into a problem when I 1st put it together. I want to save you fellas some headaches should you want to try this. Let me start out saying that all banjo bolts are not the same. Also all brake line connectors are also not the same. The original equipment lines on the 1st gens have a groove inside the fitting and the banjo bolt has a full sized shank. The 2nd gen line does not have this groove in the line, nor does the R1 lines, so there has been an engineering change with this and the bolts are not interchangeable. What I ended up doing, was grinding a groove in my old bolt at the splitter, and also on the master cylinder bolt as I wanted to use the original ones to make sure they worked properly. I used the banjo bolts that came with the R1 calipers on them. The pics below are of the differences in the bolts, and the mod plate I did to mount the splitter. I bled the brakes out tonight and have a good feel to it with newer lines. -

Rear Caliper Swap for RSV ??
Squidley replied to Mickey's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is not an uncommon problem, the rear caliper is too much for the back on the RSV. I have locked up several rear tires on various bikes without really even trying. Rick Butler here makes a valve that you can install in the line to adjust how much fluid gets to the caliper. Freebird has one on his '99 and seems content with it, might want to check into that or change out pads if your running a sintered or high performance pad. The sintered will grab hard but I have found that an organic ie original equipment pad works a bit better at not locking the rear wheel up.... -
Thank you for the update Don, we are pulling for JT and you folks. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

Ponch's Progress
Squidley replied to Squidley's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
From Pktexas on 11-10 Stopped in to visit with Ponch and Kathy this evening at TIRR. They are doing well, David told me that he will be transferring to another facility probably this coming Monday. Its in Conroe, closer to their house. Kathy thinks 1-2 months maybe. He's still is having some vision problems, and experiences vertigo sometimes. Told me the doctor was moving his head around trying check his movement and he almost threw-up on the Dr. David said he wished he did. He still has that great sense of humor, cracked me up several times. Stayed while he ate his dinner, he's eating good bye himself. Walked Kathy to the bus stop, she is staying close to the rehab facility. Will be good for her to be back at home soon too. Still praying for continued recovery. -
Prayers needed
Squidley replied to Kregerdoodle's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Good news Hal, all the best for her and your family, never easy watching a loved one go through difficulties. -
John is a good guy as well as his brothers, we were able to meet up with them when we were down here in Texas at Christmas in 07. It's sad to hear of his decline and we will definitely keep the family in our thoughts....all the best.

Steve, Thanks to you and Irene for keeping us updated, it's great news hearing that he is progressing. We are all looking forward to seeing him back home where he belongs -
I just deleted my profile last month, I hate that the "Kid" that runs it decides he can change it whenever his panties are in a bunch. I will never belong to another one of the "Social Networking" sites

Prayer request

All the best to both of them.... -
The thing about keeping warm is your core temp. If your torso area begins to get cold , heated gloves will not do anything for you besides keep your hands warm. If you keep the blood in your core a constant warm temp, your extremities will stay warm also within reason. If it were me buying I would go a heated liner and get a decent pair of insulated gloves
