I have to apologise to all our members here as I have been so busy with life that I haven't reported the findings of what caused our crash on Jan 2 2008. With out further delay here what we know.... After the tire was professionally inspected, it was found out that I did in fact hit something in the road. It appears to have been about the size of my pinkey finger and completely punctured the casing and zippered part of the sidewall. I have my theories after learning that some of the reflectors down south are spiked into the asphault. Perhaps one of the reflectors was missing or broke and allowed the retaining spike to puncture the tire. I apologise for not posting this up sooner, but I want you folks to be able to make intelligent desicions on purchasing tires. The Michelin Commanders that I had on my bike are not the cause of the accident. If your thinking of buying them I would say to be confident in them. I was pleased with the performance of them, but ultimately I love the Avons and thats what I will buy in the future. Again I apologise for the delay, I hope this helps out anybody that was wanting to hear about the findings before they bought tires.

I'm not going to get into this discussion either, as quite frankly I dont care. That being said, the Michelin Commander that was on the back of my '99 did not fail due to design. It was professionally inspected and it turned out that I hit something about the size of my pinkey finger that punctured the tire and zippered it. Let me say that loud and clear The Michelin Commander failed due to road debris Good luck with your tires and check them often

HA!!! Peg you are such a pot stirrer That was a great joke, had me going too. Now we really are going catch you and drag you around That was right up there with Calimari, and your right we do need to stir up things a bit around here. I thought for sure me buying another 1st gen would have done that but I was mistaken

Rooster, I'll work on getting it in the classifieds after I get home from work today

I don't know what year you RSTD is, but I know that on the RSV's they did have some problems with the rearends. I would definitely check into that with your dealer as it is known by Yamaha and the rearends are the same as far as I know.

Were just glad to see that you and George were able to still have a great time and another story to tell at the M&E's. I learned some new things too as I mentioned to George that I didn't think it was the ignition switch This is a very cool family that we all got to pick for ourselves

Tap the carb bowls as it's probably a stuck needle like the others have mentioned, my '99 did the same thing before we left for Christmas with it.
-
Lots of us use the RK mufflers on the RSV, I had a set on my '99's and both were completely drilled out. I like the sound of them as it wasn't obnoxiuos, but barked nice when I got on it.

Peg, Good for you and Ron, if it fits you both well and you feel you got a good deal thats all that matters. I said it to Buddy a few days ago, if you try to leave we will hunt you down and drag you back kicking and screaming. You most certainly better make it to maintenance day, it's not all about working on bikes. Dont you go anywhere woman! I say that in the nicest way though

That is a sick feeling my friend I hate to see those pics, I know how much work you have put into your bike.

You folks crack me up It just wouldn't seem right if we didn't have a bike for the season. Our true love will always be the G2, it just fits us better, but we will do some serious miles on this '86. I really want to thank RandyA again for stepping up and doing all the leg work. I couldn't have done it without him, and for those who haven't met him yet, you'll be glad when you finally do. He is one of the best members we have here, and were lucky to have him. I'd like to thank Mike Anderson also, I got a really good deal on the bike and Mike was a pleasure to deal with. I'll get Maxxine cleaned up and all ready to go for the summer...there's a lot of riding to be done this year
-
Mark, Sorry to hear that your going to give it up, I wish you the best and hope that your life settles down a bit. Try not to be a stranger, you know that your part of this family and we'll take you however we can get you.

We look forward to coming back down to Texas Tom and definitely appreciate the hospitality offer...the door is always open up here in Michigan too
-
Buddy As long as you and Momma are happy thats all that matters. That is a beautiful bike and you know better, we dont care what you ride as long as you stay here with us. If not we'll hunt you down like a dog and drag you back kicking and screaming! Enjoy your new toy

I know that the silence had been driving Randy insane!!! So I'll let him off the hook...Randy speaks of me, but I wont go as far as saying I have seen the light Many of you know of our accident on January 1st in Baton Rouge, the bike being totalled and my poor wife's collarbone being totalled Well, we settled with the insurance co. and I recieved the payoff. I paid my credit card off, payed some odd bills and spend some money on the pics below. Yes it is a 1st gen, an '86 Urishi Black one that was bought off Mike Anderson who is one of our members here. He needed to get rid of the bike and I was able to help him out with that. Randy was good enough to go check it out for me and give me his opinion. He also went with his trailer and picked it up for me and kept it at his house. Last weekend we decided to meet up in Portsmouth Ohio and I trailered it back here to Michigan. Now I know that some G2 folks here are yelling at the screen say what are you doing! Much the same as the 1st genners did when I went to my 1st '99. This was bought so that I have something to ride this year, I'm not going to say that I have gone back to the 1st gen. I'm being honest when I say that the G2 is the most comfortable bike for Lonna and I. I just dont want to spend 12K to purchase another one right now...so this '86 is the 2nd best choice for us. I stand here now ready for the inspiration posts to come around....bring it on:rasberry:

Yeah...That old Snarly Bill is a good fella, he's a pretty good wrench too. Glad you all got to get some quality time in on the bikes....and you went for a ride too, I'm so jealous
-
It definitely was a good time, Lonna and I had a blast...we always do. Lumberjack and Joe Mac rode in and if I would have had a bike...I might have too. Always good seeing all our friends and new ones to boot. We'll have to do this more often up north, I dont mind heading up for a M&E Thanks for setting it up Dray, you did real good for the 1st one in Bay City, looking forward for #2 hopefully on the bikes:banana:

I know that Mother had an Iway 350 and seemed to like it. But a few weeks later he had a different one so something must have happened I thought about buying one, but after reading customer reviews and the fact that Mother got rid of his, I dont think I would buy one. Brad T has a Zumo 450 and seems to like it fine, I haven't heard many bad experiences with the Zumo's
