Bite Me!!!
-
Well it's time.... Lonna and I are going to be headed back south to home as I have a job interview of sorts in Blanco. My Dad is getting along well, but I really need to pursue this opportunity as they are only taking apps until mid next week. So early Monday morning we are heading out of Michigan and down south. I hate to leave my Dad here by himself, but he's on my arse to apply for this job and hopefully get our lives back on track....wish us luck

Jim, We have chatted on occasion and like all have said here, dont go. Were full swing in PMS and I know MANY have cabin fever right now. The post you refer to is just a misunderstanding and is really not a big deal. One of the things I try to do here myself, to actually be a better moderator, is to meet folks face to face. This is why I'll travel the continent to go to events and to actually meet as many members as I can. This stupid little box we type into is a poor excuse for some converations. I have met folks and get a feel for them so I can better judge how they post. I have been known to come into a thread and read a post from one of the members that I know and jokingly tell them to shut up. Some folks are mortified that I do that, but I know a bit of their personalities and can get away with it to lighten up a situation. No need to go and I really encourage you to meet up with folks, I will never beg anyone to stay here. It is free will and I dont force my opinions down people, but your short changing yourself if you decide to fade away. It's all water under the bridge and some days we just have our shorts in a wad....it happens to me too

Hey Kiddo, Good to see your still alive! hopefully you will have some time to spend with us this year. If your ever down in Texas look us up....be safe
-
Vic & Tom, Not much more that can be said than what is here. Your Casey was a sweetie of a dog and I remember him from the time we were able to spend with you folks. Never easy to loose anyone in the family and my heart goes out to both of you. The good memories will far outweigh the loss, but that still doesn't help the loss...all the best my friends.

Back to Oil again...
Squidley replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Either one of them will work, I have used it for years in the dead dinosaur form. Just keep in mind that if your bike has a lot of miles on it and you have only run conventional oil in it that synthetic will sometimes cause gaskets to leak when it is used in an older engine with more than say 40K miles. -
'99 RSV Tire Size Discrepancy
Squidley replied to Bobby G's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm with Steve 100%, as others mentioned LOTS of problems with Metzlers, you may want to go with a different tire. As far as your tire guys, I have used the 130 size front tire on my '99 RSV and had zero issues with it. It steers quicker and gives the bike a more neutral steering feeling. It also has a tendency to drift on the Exway at higher speeds, but no real issues. I use the stock size and have leveling links like Bummer -
Good on ya!

If it works out we could come down I 75 and perhaps bring it to Texas when we head back down around the 1st of Febuary -
I never knew Potato Head was Indy driver!
-
Bid on that one Jonas, it looks to be all there from the pics that you have posted
-
We could use a pic of your bike Dan, but all the parts sprawled around might not fit on the surface area we have available to use.....Gotcha Bub! Bummer....Love the Potato Head! The quarter is good too and if folks like the idea of the quarter we will do that

I agree with David 100% if you have the bike with you in Texas I would post a thread for some assistance. Knowing many of the Texas brothers as I do, I'd be willing to bet that a couple of them would either have you at the house or come to you to help install it. I would be glad to....but I'm still in a frozen land called Michigan, but Texas is calling me back as soon as Dad's hip is good enough for him to be left alone

It's hard to say what the damage might be, maybe nothing as all the materials are somewhat soft. Worst case is it will score the cylider wall if hard particles are present. I'm no expert by any means, but my gearhead approach would tell me to do a few things. 1st is obviously DONT turn the motor over anymore than it has been. I would remove the carbs completely and see how much debris is in the intake manifolds. I would also remove the plugs from the cylinders and see if you could shove a pen light down in there to illuminate the cylinders to see if there is material in there. If you have a shop vacI would modify the hose by adding a smaller vacuume line and tape it for a leak proof seal. Use this to suck out and material thats present. You might also want to take some compressed air set on a light pressure and blow some of it out in conjunction with the vacuume. This is what I would if it were mine, there might be a better way that I'm not privvy to, others will chime in I'm sure.

OK Folks..... It's 2010 now officially for the last 11 days and now it's time to set you creative types to put your thinking cap on and show us what you got with a design that we will pick for the T-shirts for the International rally. We'll use this as the idea thread where you can post up your designs and we will have a 2nd thread with a poll where we will vote on the design the majority like. Keep in mind that this years rally is the 5th anniversary of the original rally held at Potato Creek State Park In Indiana. We'll run this till the end of January and on Febuary 1st we'll put the poll up with the entries we have and pick a winner....so show us what you got!
