  1. These do help. Blue dots from a 2001 R1. Front end from a n 86 Venture, no anti dives. Gary
  2. 93 and newer Vmax starter or an RSV starter. Both are 4 brush units. Thread below has helped 2 brush units a lot. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46890 Gary
  3. Glass bead is similar to sand blasting but with a different abrasive used. The glass beads don't cut into the surface like sand does. They will cut the glaze off but not damage the steel rotors. Very fine sandpaper might be an option, like 800 or higher grit. Gary.
  4. Attached are a few pictures of hoses on an 83 with 88 hose & thermostat sensor junction. The small hose out of the thermostat sensor junction block runs down to the cover between the cylinders on the right side. Radiator can go on prior to hoses to heads. You will want to put thermostat and lower hoses on prior to putting radiator in. After radiator is in, then install junction block on right side which connects head hoses. Gary
  5. Comtamination on the pads (oil mainly) Glazed surface on rotors. - Glass Beading will clean this up. Either one of these will reduce the friction between pads & rotor. 'HH' EBC pads are fairly popular here, I think they will cause premature rotor wear, I prefer a Kevlar pad. Pads are cheap, rotors aren't. Does the lever 'creep' as you are pulling hard, or does it seem steady? Gary
  6. Yes, I know there are more modern and effective methods available today, but you said "old school" and this was the old school practice in automotive garages in the day when one fixed the old parts instead of just bolting on new assemblies. Don't fret, most of us 1st genners work on our own bikes, thats one reason they are known as faster. You know its done your way instead of a 19 year old that knows little except shop manual pictures at the Yamaha dealer, You know, he's the one replacing your shock, checking valves, adjusting your carbs. He likes those shiny RSV's. Not to mention near $75 shop hour rates, he is worth it. Gary
  7. Jiri is sort of the lead engineer there. In past I have had problems with language differences and from their sometimes partial answers to multiple questions in a single email. It seemed like they only read part of email. Gary
  8. It ain't a lump of coal your gettin Dan !!! http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/santabad.jpg
  9. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/CHRISTMAS.jpg
  10. Have a 40 year vetern coworker that gave following info. Purpose of the 'Knife Edge' was when straight edge is placed against a flat machined surface, 1) easier to see light coming through low spots, 2) more accurate if sliding shim gauge under as no dirt build up. Gary
  11. Ebay had a promotion last week 12/6-12/8, 5000 listings with no listing fee. You could list the birdcage liner for free. You pay selling fees if it sold. So that is probably why there are low value items showing up. They could be listed for up to 30 days with the buy it now option. Gary
  12. You can pull it with motor in frame. Rear swing arm needs to come off to do it. There are 3 bolts holding housing in. Wouldn't recomend cganging gear out as that will affect the shimming & backlash of gear. This gear & tranny bevel geared are shimmed between housing that you need to remove & block. There will probably be 1 to 3 shims in between housing & block. These are two piece shims of varying thickness to adjust backlash. If there is 2 or more, you need to make sure they are installed so right & left sides are same thickness, don't want 2 thick shims on one side & 2 thin ones on other side. Couldn't find a good picture I took of that area. 1 picture shows block still split with mating gear. Gary
  13. You should have that on there. There is at most an 1/8" movement in & out. Gary
  14. I almost posted something but I better keep my squeeky clean image !! Gary
  15. The suggestion of the penny or dime may work well for an RSV, but I beleive it is too thick for a 1st gen. Due to the cast side cover plates and screw position, a cover plate can be snapped with too thick a shim. Don't ask me how I know this. Gary
  16. Here are a couple of more pictures, one shows internal side. Couple of my most often posted pictures. Gary
  17. It can be used. Reason it is not is that it is a 12v powered device and there was concern if sensor failed and passed 12 v into TCI that was set up for 5v, it might cause a failure of TCI. Output of stock sensor is in safe range of 1-4V, approximate. Gary
  18. The sensors were ordered from China, to just get one would be very costly due to shipping. I will give you any programs or technical stuff I have. Gary
  19. Ebay made a change about 6 months ago and started charging seller fees on shipping. It was a way for sellers to circumvent paying fees on the selling price of an item, they would sell it cheap, but charge excessive shipping to make a profit. It has seemed to help out. On the wrenches I sell on ebay, I list them as free shipping, when actually I have included shipping in the listed cost. It's a marketing ploy, somewhat like $9.99 sounds way better than $10.00. Gary
  20. I used it on every paper type gasket in the motor. Both sides of gasket. Gary
  21. Auto Zone has a gasket softener. WD-40 helps some too. It takes a while, I have also used a wire brush on cover, don't use on case side so as to not get stuff in block. Also been using vasoline on gaskets when I install them, haven't had any leaks. Took motor apart after a year together for some further enhancements last winter, and gaskets came off easier. Gary
  22. I do not have any of the TCIP4 units left, I have an extra Racer 3 that I am going to experiment with on my bike at some point. It is a higher end TCI. After Christmas I will see if there is enough interest to do this again, I have had several inquires in the last few weeks. Gary
  23. Is she knocking on the garage door? Let me in, Let me in !!! Gary
  24. If the cap is not turning, the radiator grille has a tab on it that will interfere with cap twisting fully. Lossen the screws holding grille to clear it. No question is a waste, it cheers us up when we think we are being useful. Gary
