Slave Cyl Remove & Replace Question
dingy replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have more lever pressure on my clutch than I do on the front brakes. I'm not sure if the pivot points on the lever are the same from right to left though. I am running two diaphragm springs in clutch though. And the clutch line pressure is held at the maximum level for a longer period than the brakes, thus causing more stress induced in the hydraulic hose. The brakes are rarely applied to full pressure unless in a 'panic' type stop. When setting at light for instance, I would think most only apply enough lever pressure to hold the bike at stop. The clutch, on the other hand,, is either full on or full off most of its life. Gary -

Try Skydoc_17, member here. I found my set on ebay, along with the rear brake line, but it was a one time item, I think. Sellers I.D. was 'garyhl2004' Gary -
I have had some members express interest in getting an Ignitech TCI. I did the first one in August 2011 and 13 members participated in it here. I have not had any issues with them reported to me. If any of the guys that got them would like to post their experience with the TCI, it may help others decide if this is for them. I have ran this TCI for 2 years now and is works perfectly. This TCI is only available for the 83-93 1st gen Ventures. The RSV's have some dash indication features in it that this module is not set up to handle. I am planning on ordering TCI's the last week of January. That is to give anyone interested in doing this time to get funds together after the holiday season. Cost is $250 including USPS Priority shipping to US addresses. I will send anywhere, but shipping will be more. Due to Paypal fees of 2.9% there will be an added $7.25 for Paypal payments. Checks or money orders would be fine. Last time I took Paypal payments as 'Personal' transactions, but Paypal is shutting some peoples accounts down for this practice. Payment will be need in advance, same as last time. Attached below is a PDF of install instructions I provided & a couple of pictures of TCI. The MAP sensor will be connected to TCI with one connector on it at the MAP sensor itself. You will get following: Pre programmed new, version 80 Ignitech module (warranty by Ignitech) A revised program that is much better than what Ignitech is supplying. Adapter harness for either a 1983-1989 Venture or a 1990-1993 Venture, plug & play & matching program in TCI. Spare terminals for the TCI end connector. Also furnished are replacement ends for the Venture harness connectors & terminals. These are only needed if your harness end connectors are corroded. A new 1 bar GM MAP sensor and wiring connector properly connected to Ignitech harness. Wires will be 24" long and heat shrink covered. The stock vacuum sensor on the bike is not desirable for use on this TCI due to it being 12v based and it is prone to failure due to its age. All documentation and original files from Ignitech along with any useful info I have collected on a CD. Also on CD will be wiring schematics & service manuals for the 1st gens. Marine grade Velcro to attach TCI & MAP sensor. Alcohol wipes to clean surfaces. Small tube of dielectric grease. 24" of 3/16" vacuum hose to connect to MAP sensor. 15 wire zip ties in 3 different sizes. All TCI's for the 1983-1989 will be tested for operation on my bike. I cannot start the 1990-1993 TCI's due to coil differences, but I can program module. An optional item is a 6' long USB to COM cable to allow the TCI to be hooked up to a laptop that does not have a Com port. This is $15.00 additional. Not needed if you are not interested in tweaking the programming of TCI. Ignitech main thread (extensive) is linked below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=40414 Previous group buy thread is at link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62620 If interested, post here or PM me. Dan, When I used the term 'Clarify' in regards to post you made, I was trying to point out that the RSV valve cover gaskets where similar to the 1st gens, but had a different feature. In your 1st reply here you stated "If you buy gaskets get 2nd Gen gaskets. They are same and a lot easier to put on" They are similar, not the same. If they are the same, one might be led to believe there is no difference, so why get the 2nd gen's. Not trying to goose you Dan, just trying to be helpful. Gary -

Attached are some pictures of a fall over sensor from a 1st gen. fall over switch. When bike rolls over the ring slides up on the curved bar and makes contact with brass plate & shuts down TCI. Gary- 43 replies

Slave Cyl Remove & Replace Question
dingy replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
#3 - I am fairly sure it is a 12mm 10, 12, 14 , 17 , 19 are for the most part the sizes you will find on the bike. Don't have to drain oil, there is a seal the clutch push rod goes through into the case. #4, You can use Allen Wrenches as long as they are metric. This particular screw is pretty deep in a hard to get at spot, so a socket drive allen on a short extension is a good choice. I have a set of 'T' handle metric wrenches I use a lot. Harbor freight has them. When you get slave off, pay close attention to the condition of the bore where the seals ride. I have seen a couple of these that have been past repairing. It is not uncommon for the clutch fluid to be neglected. Water goes to the lowest point and degrades this area. A set of speed bleeders is very helpful. You need 4 of them including the brakes. Some pictures attached that may help you get an idea what you will be looking at. Gary -
I have a local 'small' locksmith shop that duplicates key for me. I don't think blank is that unusual. Not like a modern microchip key. It isn't the molded head like the original key, but it fits and is a good spare. Gary

Clarifying what Dan said. The RSV gaskets will fit the 1st gens. The reason they are easier to install is they have tabs, or maybe a lip that sticks out beyond sealing surfaces that makes it easier to get them lined up correctly. As stated above, trying to tighten the valve cover bolts to stop leaking is futile. These are a shoulder bolt & once the shoulder contacts the cam retainer inside, there is no further squeezing possible. It is a small thread on the end of these bolts, 6mm, which will snap with not much over torque. Gary -

The fall over sensor is basically a metal ring on a curved bar. When bike is past its normal riding position this ring closes a circuit that shuts down the TCI. It is wired together with the side stand switch to the same input on the TCI on a 1st gen, not sure about RSV's. This switch has a very low rate of failures due to internal design. If it were going to fail, I would think it would not shut bike down when needed rather than a false trigger. Gary- 43 replies

Battery Warning Bypass
dingy replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If it is a gel cell, it probably wouldn't work even if you did drill it. Chemical properties would be different from sulfuric acid. The new Lithium batteries are over $200 for a Venture, almost got one when I was installing VMax air box due to size. Ended up mounting gel cell on its side in where coils were. They are about 1/3 the size and weight is way less. http://www.shoraipower.com/s-149434-XVZ13-VentureRoyale.aspx Gary -

Bigger is better, try the 2.2k and the 1k in series first, then drop back to only 2.2k, then try the 1K alone, last resort is the two in parallel, this would be the least resistance. Stop at the first one to work. Just hook up with clip leads or wires twisted together to try. Gary -

If it is getting too painful for you to tolerate, go to the user CP - Settings & Options - Ignored Threads. But since you are reading this, it reminds me of a moth drawn to a flame. When side stand is retracted, the circuit should read 0 ohms. When side stand starts its downward travel, it will read open. The RSV circuit diagrams are located at link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42357 Gary- 43 replies

See 2 attached pictures for a visual here. I bought this lighted chili pepper set for a friend tonight at wally world. They have a lot of pepper themed decorations in home. 2nd picture is what I am struggling with. 'Indoor' & 'Yard Sculpture' is confusing. Also, is it 'Clear' or 'Brown' wire. Noticed this while I was in check out lane. Gary

I ran a 600cc suzuki this fall with mine. 10 mph rolling start. I don't think he knew what I was riding other than a big slow looking bike, or he wanted to take it easy on me. I was at 85mph, mid way in third when he caught & passed me finally. Gary

dingy replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On wiring diagram, this circuit is powered from the signal fuse, which is controlled from the main key switch. No other components involved with powering this plug. Signal fuse is a 20 amp circuit. Gary -
Rear Brake not releasing after using it
dingy replied to bikenut's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Attached are a few of pictures of the proportioning valve as it came out of my 83. The rear brakes worked fine before disassembly. I am not sure if valve was ever apart before I obtained bike, but due to its relativity low milage I would find it unlkely. Valve was disassembled for pictures, as I no longer use it on bike with delinked brakes. In first picture the rubber grommet on lower right was in the cap on the lower left. Gary- 6 replies

One of the mounting ears (front as it is mounted) needs to be removed from the stock TCI if it is being mounted on air cleaner. This allows it to slide closer to battery box and the lid will then clear it. Gary
