  1. Somebody shoot me a close up pic of the alignment between the rear cylinder exhaust flange and the down tube?? Is it possible that, as much fun as they are to get into the collector, the downtube shifted during operation and caused the gasket to not seal anymore????
  2. You gotta admit, this is pretty good!
  3. To clarify, you have been trying to get in touch with "thecycleking" or "Harbers cycle". If the first I should think it is past time to contact Harbers' directly, follow the suggestions from others and contact the BBB (for whatever that's worth). Good luck, you've been more patient then I would have.
  4. I'd like to come this year. Can you schedule it in a drought? Mid/late August should be good for that. but seriously, my workload is lighter in mid summer; for wha ti's worth Heck, with a little luck I'll let you all ride my bike so you can comment on my hot air (open mouth, insert foot)
  5. Rick, I would say: "No", I can hear the fan kick in when I am stopped or in slow moving traffic, but do not (necessarily) feel the rush of hot air because it gets expelled in front of the lowers. The airflow I am referring to is definitely coming through the opening in the sidepanels. I also find it doubtfull that the fan would come on doing a steady 80mph on the interstate and the temp guage rock solid at just above horizontal and a 'mere' 85 degrees outside. Randy, you would've been about half an hour from the house, but we were in Rome at that time. Maybe another time! Given the temps I am feeling, I am convinced it has to be exhaust, but to verify that or determine where it is coming from would save me a lot of aggrevation when I pull these #%&* pipes back off.
  6. Let me try this again; I have hot, as in extreme, air coming of the engine. I pulled the exhaust and found a crack in the downtube and collector as well as broken welds on the collectors mounting bracket. I fixed those, reassembled, thought I had it fixed and suddenly there was that wisp of hot air again. Took it apart again found a pinhole in the downtube they missed when welding and reinstalled with new crushwashers. The other gaskets are in good condition! Went to Rome GA, all was well for the first three hours!! during the last half hour both Brenda and I could feel the heat coming up, by the time we got to Fudruckers things were back to normal. On the way back we had no problem going down to Atlanta but halfway between Atlanta and Greenville, it got bad enough that I had to put my legs on the pegs to get some relief. I locked the throttle for a bit and rested my elbow on Brenda's knee and you could feel the wave of hot air rushing up and out between my thigh and her shin. So in short: -engine temp is consistently showing midway in the green. -weather /driving speed is not a factor, -I have a heat problem that comes and goes. I know RandyA says heat is no problem with shorts on, Randy come ride my bike and make that claim. Folks, I would love to hear some options, why would this not be consistent? If it is exhaust should it not be consitently hot? Where might this be coming from if not the exhaust? How do you trace something that is intermittent and burried under all kinds of plastic? I took the darn pipes of twice now for this and I'm gonna have to find the source of this dadburn bun burner, cause it ain't no fun. This is war!!! I know I could argue winter is coming and I currently have a build in forced air heater, so why complain, but that is hardly the point
  7. Haven't had to change the oil quite yet with the spin on, but does not look to be a problem. I'll let you know (:backinmyday:if I remember:confused24:)
  8. The metal chin cowl utilizes the top bolt from the crash bar with a 1'2 inch spacer for the top holes, this is the bolt that threads into the welded on nut; and the bottom holes hold a through bolt with a 1/2 inch spacer. This bolt goes through a welded in hole in the frame between the middle and upper crash bar bolts and has a nwasher/nut on the inside of the frame. you have to reach artound the exhaust to get to it. The tab you see at the upper bolt in pic 1 holds the bottom of the lower fairing. pic 3 shows (kind of) the spacer . All four spacers are the same size

    9/11

Today is September 11! Lets not forget the man and women who died 8 years ago in a atrocious and unprovoked attack on our nation.
  10. Since the unit will handle up to 50 Amps, may i assume that is the size fuse you would install??
  11. If you think it is, it is!
  12. Got mine Dano, Thanks for your (major) effort on this!!
  13. I ran it around for about a week without the lower fairings ands found it allows a lot of engine heat on your legs. I'll pass!
  14. Naw, been having to hold her down to prevent her from killing the other idiot.
  15. He's thirty yrs old Brad. Will he start wearing a helmet now? Not likely, unless they mandate helmets for all riders in state, something about rather being dead then a vegetable. It did scare the daylights out of him, but as far as drinking and riding I' think he'll think trice. And his brother can only marry a barwh*r* once (I hope)
  16. My oldest (stepson) went down Saturday and walked away with nary a scratch!! No gloves, no helmet, no armour, the foot brake lever and highway peg are bent, thee are minor scratches on the air filter cover and exhaust and he's got road rash on the front fork and rear fender. Oh and he needs a new tank on his HD. Sean says last he saw he was doing 50, I saw the "turn", I'm thinking more like 80; apparently his front wheel jumped the curb but the rear did not followhe left the bike and landed in a freshly mulched shrub bed. Still lucky he didn't hit one of the many river rocks or trees there. I'm gratefull he's OK, as far as the underlying cause: lets call it operator error; he was ticked, he had been drinking and he was going somewhere he did not want to go (lets leave it at that)
  17. I tried going there earlier today but I get a message saying its a "bad gateway"
  18. Had one of hese waiting for the sidecar and tried it on the bike, looks like it would fit and look good. and only $8 bucks a pop!! I'll have to find something else for the trunk guard and the bigger ones on the back of the bumper. http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/moc.htm I'll post a pic when I've got them mounted.
  19. You know that thing that looks like what someone else said was a compressor, and trusting soul that I am:innocent:, I figured they know more then I about un named objects that I've never seen before up close and so, since i could use a compressor for the sidecar, I figured, well, ....... It's realy Reiny's fault, if he would have labeled everything ......
  20. Lost one of the lenses on my rear lightbar, can these still be found new? or has anyone replaced the whole unit (with a LED one)? Also need a solution for the airdam lights, one has crumbled on the inside so I either need a nother one or find a replacement solution in which case i'll have one to "give" away.
  21. Anyone change their mind on the compressor i'll take it for my sidecar project
  22. Well, I calmed down; somewhat! Got everything back off, appears the sumb**** illegal did not quite get the weld on the downtube and since he boogered the dickens out of it I hope they can fix that. to complicate matters, I had some soot on the cylinder side of the exhaust flanges presumably from not seating it right the last time. Also the beveled edge on these are somewhat pitted and caused some blow by on the right side. The retaining rings have a similar problem and are not smooth on the bevel; so new copper rings is also up there and the gaskets in the collector are OK but not great so might as well replace that as well. Basically I'm looking at maybe replacing the whole rear cylinder exhaust assembly. Anyone have any used parts? http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-venture-royale-xvz12tdk-1983/o/m7869 shows no option for ordering the flanges. Anyone cheaper or anyone with other suggestions? Does anyone know if the gaskets from V-Max are the same as the VR so that I can pick them up from the stealer?
  23. Count to a hundred, my rear, that ain't gonna hack it!!! :soapbox: Apparantly the illegal sumb**** didn't weld my down tube on the rear cylinders right 'cause I still get some hot air coming up:headache: tried just removing the downtube and lost the allan wrench on top off the collector and I couldn't get it out :starz:Had to buy another set of allan wrenches to finish that bit, lost that one on top of the collector too, so had to go buy a magnetic pick up, then, guess what: ...can't get the down tubes out so i'm having to take the whole blasted exhaust loose One of the nuts holding the collector on appears to be stripped too far and it won't come loose ....... :bang head::bang head: and you can't reach it with vise grips!!! I'm gonna kill something.............. maybe i need a drink (is it 12 o'clock yet)......
  24. overdraft fees depend on how many you have in a month, if you have, say, more then two, the amount goes up. if your account stays overdrawn for a period, they'll hit you with a fee for that. if you check your computer you run a day behind, because what you see on your screen is not updated at the same time as the banks. If you look at your banks list of charges you'll have a heart attack, the one that got me was the fee for bringing rolled coin in!! The best course of action is to log your expenses religeously, don't float checks and build a cushion. Keep in mind that overdraft protection is a loan and even though it will prevent overdraft fees, it is something you need to pay back. Linking your savings to your checking is great untill someone steals your checking account number!! Quit using a debit card 'cause it's too easy to forget to enter the transaction. I did add a credit union account because they have better rates (and lower fees), but changing financial institutions will not solve an underlying problem. Good Luck!
  25. for what it's worth; when I bought mine the rear brake disk was shopt as a result of a missing washer. Teh shop didn't realize this untill after they replaced the disk and it had a grinding noise. If you're not missing one, could you have a wrong sized washer, or possibly the wrong size disk?
