  1. The heck with that, spend it on yourself, you've got bills most of us never hope to see!! Hope that's what you did with the excess I sent you!
  2. You're ignoring something; out of 7000, how many have moved on and never visit this site again for whatever reason? And from those 1200 supporting members only a fraction will post. So why are so many contributing (and unless I miss my guess more then the requisite $12.00)? I think you are missing the reasoning behind the annual fee. Maybe next time you participate in a poker run, or buy your Starbucks double Latte, you should remember the reason for this minimal annual fee.
  3. Don, some thoughts: It occurred to me you may need to re write the intro on the home page. Have "join here" buttons everywhere e.g at the end of each post/thread Maybe even a separation between supporting and non supporting members on the counter. Is the trial going to include the ability to post? Personally don't think it should. Btw; and certainly not the least important, how's your treatment coming?
  4. now why would you put the whole helmet in the dishwasher if you can just pull the liner:think:
  5. makes you make sure to bring the antihistamines and a cellphone. now what's the part about the white dot, never heard that before. now honeybee stings you rub with a copper penny, itch gone! (my grandparents kept bees)
  6. someone posted a U-tube clip fairly recently of a wing pulling wheelies. Looked like the guy hit the front brake to prior to hitting the throttle to give it some extra bounce. Looked like it was a newer wing too.
  7. Herb, I'm using "engine ice" in mine and for now i'd say it's running cooler then it used to. Pricey stuff though
  8. I must be missing something here! Wonder what that could be??? My stepson just came back from Afghanistan, his perspective is interesting in that from his viewpoint the locals don't give a sh*t, the kids spit at our men and in one instance they were even stoned. Our g'vment is paying farmers for damage done to their lands by our operations and in case you forgot they grow poppies and hash. He did state that they were the first ones there and hoped that things would get easier for subsequent units. I have a lot of respect for these guys, at that age I wasn't willing to stick my neck out for some foreign conflict (which in fairness was a volunteer UN mission - '79 Lebanon). Still think it might have been easier to just nuke the place and be done with it
  9. The shop seems to think it is oil leaking from the head gaskets and hitting the exhaust manifold. The heat then being generated from the oil burning off. They ordered the gaskets and we'll install them, hopefully that will solve that problem. I like smoked ham, just not attached to my body!
  10. I think the baffle in the collector is loose, as in rattling around like peas in a pot!. 1. Can i pull the mufflers and re-install them with the old seals or do i need to replace them (24K miles)? 2. Could i possibly pull the offending piece out without removing the collector and cutting it open? 3. How much damage can this piece of metal do inside the collector (over time) if it stays in? Thanks
  11. The Patriot Guard escorted some 30 wounded Marines from the Greenville/Pickens Speedway through Easley and Clemson (SC) to Keowee Key for a week long "rehabilitation vacation". Thanks to some fancy dilly-dallying around I managed to 'spend' some extra time on one of my properties to allow me an opportunity to have a front row seat at the beginning of the run. My guess is that there were probably some 100 bikes escorting these guys. I'm sorry to say that the coach they were in had dark tinted windows and you couldn't see them!!! And due to the miracle of technology I can't seem to attach pictures:soapbox:
  12. If I just need to plug the cables in, then how does it operate? Inline push to talk, voice activated, handlebar mounted PTT switch?
  13. Rather then starting another thread I figure I use this one to update and ask for advise/suggestions. Although the sidecar has not arrived here yet, I posted some pictures (pre-shipping/crating) in my albums. I'll be adding to this as things progress. Meanwhile the discussion on mounting continues and I am looking at wiring. Greg, your pictures confirmed my thoughts on mounting points, thanks! Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. I'll keep you posted. Out of curiosity, how many sidecarists are there on VR.org?
  14. My '83 Royale did not come with a CB and/or intercom but I would like to add one. I have a OEM working radio without headset jack. What would I need to install this on my bike? Does anyone have this and want to part with it? Thanks!
  15. 2200 mile week: my first reaction was that that equates to 300mi/day or two tanks. 'Course I didn't see whether this was a long haul out and back so maybe my assumption is incorrect. I would agree that multiple stops would ease LD rides. Brenda and I rode about 300 miles last weekend on a mix of interstate, curvy secondaries and 4-lane highway (about a third each), we were out for 9 hours, with breakfast, lunch and a coffee stop included and still home by 0300pm. It made us realize that a long distance run (e.g. to see friends) is quite doable within our personal limits. Having said that, when I bought my bike, I rode it home (650 miles) with the thought that I had to do it in one day, the self imposed pressure to accomplish that made for a hard ride, which could have been much more relaxed, even for a one day run!
  16. Which is why my wife doesn't get on or off without the sidestand down.. guess you'll start that too
  17. All of which basically says: if it's your time, it's your time. Don't matter where you are.
  18. Greg, (in London) Looks like you modified a passenger mounting plate to attch your rear fram to, correct? Is it bolted to the frame or did you fabricate a attachment bracket? The picture of the front is pretty bloody dark!! I'm guessing you attached it where the engine crash guard used to be? and the upper looks to be where the horn bracket was mounted? Again, bolted on, or a custom bracket for the upper arm. did you create a subframe for the lower front, or is it strictly one sided (left) did you weld this as well or use existing mounting bolts. If it can be made strong enough, I'd be tempted to create a subframe or mounting harness which bolts onto the frame on the same points where the engine crash guards and horn mounts are. Possible even include the radiator mounting points, but haven't had time to look into that yet. Won't have my car till later in the month though, the first shipper justcancelled the quote due to traffic violations !! In other words: just as well!! I'll keep y'all posted. btw, how many folks on here ride a combo?
  19. Thanks Eck, not interested though! That list of trailer manufacturers that was posted a couple of weeks ago had a dutch (?)company on there (think the word Holland was in the name), makes trailers with what are essentially sidecar bodies. Definitely different.
  20. Saw one of those the other week while zipping along, Blinked and it was gone:scratchchin:
  21. Well, bought me a sidecar, it'll get here towards the end of the month, so I'll post pics then, Meantime I can contemplate how to mount this thing; be interested in any pics you guys might share on the mounting points and brackets for a 1st Gen. I realize each sidecar is probably unique in its attachment but it'll give me a reference. Thanks!!
  22. temps were upper 70's with wind 5-10 mph, some of it was highway speeds other was secondary roads between trees. Tried Condors suggestion and let it idle. Fan kicks in close to red (1-2 needle widths) the air from this comes out in front of the lowers (front cylinder area) the heat I am experiencing comes from the rear cylinder area. Tried to see if it could be exhaust related; did tighten the hex nuts connecting the header pipe (rear) to the connector pipe to the collector a full turn. Can't budge any of the other exhaust clamps and can't see any evidence of a leak there either. Given the heat I am inclined that this would almost have to be the problem.
  23. OK, OK, I appologize!!! I was a bit of a **** head there. I spend five hours on a boat in the middle of the lake for compulsory race committee duty (sailing) with a guy who b*tched moaned, groaned, cursed, belched and generally complained about the wind direction, the wind speed and the wake of power boaters, none of which he could do anything about. As a result, I was a tad testy myself and took it out on the wrong group.
