Hey thanks for the great info guys, much appreciated.. I have several local shops willing to do the job, once I purchase the kit.. I just gotta find a good kit, at a great price kinda thing.. sigh..

Several people asked to see pics of the short windscreen I have my Midnight RSV so here they are..

Hmm in a bit of a pinch here.. A whilst back a local shop that did a front tire change managed to pooch my front axle.. The shop that did the most recent tire change discovered the damage and advised me that though they were able to clean up the threads, the threads in the fork end is not '100% correct' and should look at putting in a Heli Coil and if possible replace the front fork? The Heli coil is a 18mm x 1.5 pitch and no one in town here carries any so that means I have to purchase a kit which costs anywhere from $180 to $280 depending where it's purchased.. I've never seen this operation done before, are these kits expensive in the USA, readily available? Anyone have information as to how these are used, how it works etc? I'm heading down to the USA in a week or two to have my neck bearings done under warranty and hoping the same shop is going to be able to do this task at the same time.. But I can't seem to find out more about it online.. ?

Lemme know if you're stuck I think I still have my OLD one.. I did the Firestiks mod on my bike.. makes it look better.
-
Would it have not been easier to have installed the Firestiks setup instead (my apologies if I missed the main point of why you did it this way..) I did a manual firestiks CD antenna tuning which was darn close when it was later put onto an RSW meter.. Black Antennas like yours and the Firestiks always look nice on these bikes.. Good job!

When it stops raining I'll get ya some photos.. might have a cute lass on the bike as well.. why not eh?
-
Try the $25 "Hidden Antenna" so you can forget the rear antenna all together?? Its an option you should look at.. Hmmmmmm Currently riding with a 4 inch windscreen on the bike.. Saves on fuel mileage..

Beginner Maintenance
Seaking replied to uechi kid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah, $5 plugs once a year.. what a scam lol.. But you're right about the tank, it's but a 5 min job after you're familiar with it.. nothing scary about it.. I do my plugs once or twice a year depending how much riding I do (average 30K a year) and its no biggie.. They are not expensive so why not change them.. But that's just me.. I like taking things apart.. -
Whats in your tool bag?
Seaking replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The tool bag I carry is a typical military shaving kit size canvas bag. I carry two those: One is the First Aid Kit always in the right side bag on top, whilst the tool kit is in the left side, bottom of the bag where it would hopefully not be needed whilst on the road.. In the tool kit are all the tools I would need to perform just about any maintenance I would ever need to do on the road, even as far as getting things ready for a valve adjustment job minus the special tool. You'd be surprised how few tools those are. I do tend to carry a lot more than I need, sometimes duplicates but that's because I've been too lazy to clean out the tool bag this year.. I like Sling's 'shadow board' cutout idea, you might be able to do such a board for the bottom of the trunk, so that should anything go wrong, you would lift out the panel from the bottom of the trunk and have your tool kit ready and handy.. it would only take less than 1.5 inches of the floor space and not bounce around too heavily like a bag might.. Hmmm Something to look into as a winter work project.. Hmmmm -
I guess THAT would be it.. unfortunately currently unavailable at this source.. Hmm Interesting.. However found another source, bought two of them for me and a spare.. $25 each.. kewl Cheers

Tell us more of the hidden antenna? Though I "rarely" use the CB on mine, I'm not sure if I would part with it.. but if a hidden antenna gives great reception / range, I may consider it.. Tres cool

How quick of an on / off is the trunk on the conversion? Great looking project!

Let us know.. seen the product but no idea if its worth it or not..

HID Low Beam, but No High Beam ??
Seaking replied to Sleeperhawk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very decent to deal with as we also had that same problem on one of the installations we did here.. In our case, my buddy had a headlight MODULATOR installed on his headlight system which was disabled but it still caused problems to the HID system. Once we took that out of the system, everything worked perfectly.. Hopefully your fix is as quick and easy -
Thanks M8... I did advertise the fact that I was coming down in May, getting information for the trip.. Hooked up with Goose in Dallas.. Perhaps we can hook up next time I'm down there.. Cheers =)

PCW Clutch upgrade question
Seaking replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This IS typical.. I have that same issue with my PCW clutch but you will get used to it.. don't worry.. the friction zone is sooo narrow with this new clutch, but it grabs so well you will get used to it soon enough.. Cheers M8 -
This is why you should be wearing trousers when riding any bike I don't notice the heat while riding up here but when we were in TX last month, man.. wow I didn't realize until then how much heat this bike does put out.. wow

Honestly, Honda Moly60 *IS* overkill when greasing parts up but then again, why not go for the best when it's available.. No one is saying it's a bad choice, but to most its way more than enough, almost like saying why use gold when silver is good enough, but gold is better.. but not required.. Silver works and is cheaper, but gold does a better job but more expensive in most cases and applications.. silly analogy but meh, it works for me.. I have several tubes in the shop.. expensive up here but when I find it cheap in the US I bring some of the good stuff back home

I got mine from hellrisercustoms.com SKU DS244133 $65 You could probably find it in so many other places as well. Installation is simple, find a spot on your bars to mount it with the included bracket and clamp, green wire to the coil, ground to a suitable grounding point. The red and blue are power for the tach and lighting so you solder those together onto a longer lead wire and hook that to an existing power source etc.. and voila.. You'll have to take your tank off and side neck cover to make it a neater installation.. Cheers
-
I installed a new tach to the bike today and it works. Simple and easy installation. VERY simple.. Bike idles at 1,000 rpm and it's fun to watch it wind up into the 6,000 range when dropping the hammer.. I couldn't see where the rev limiter was kicking in as I was too busy watching the road BTW, where DOES the rev limiter kick in and what's red line on this engine? Being old air force, I'd be putting VnE and VnR markers on the gauge hehe.. All I need now is to make a bracket that brings it up and twists forward to align it properly, or I might just leave it as is since I would be using it for reference only anyway..

Carbon 1 crash bar braces with clamps
Seaking replied to Godlover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just installed mine the other and I didn't find anything too scary about it.. I did bother to take the extra time and removing the floorboards and disconnecting the levers on both sides.. just makes for an easier time drilling the holes required. Start to finish about an hour total. I love how I can push against my highway bars when I need to without feat of snapping something. Well done! -

First LONG ride on my Venture
Seaking replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like a nice short trip =) I just finished one a few weeks ago when buddy and I did 7500 miles from Canada to Key West and around to Dallas and meandering backup inside of two weeks.. slab riding the whole time and yes, geesus does it ever get hot. We left here in 50'F weather and soon hit the 95'F weather for most of the trip until we got back into Maine.. and I got on the verge of heat stroke all of a sudden on the highway, came on like gang busters but I recognized it for what it was and got off the road quickly and bailed from the bike into the shade.. took almost an hour to recover.. the high heat and desiccating winds were a killer in MAY, I can only imagine what they are like now. It wasn't until I got back and mentioned it to a fellow instructor that she showed me her "Hydration Vest" made by cough cough the people at HD.. Surprisingly enough, you soak this vest in water and it holds the water for several hours, evaporating as you go along, keeping you cooled off by a huge amount. Its not like you're gonna get soaked by it but she mentioned that where your pants sits against the vest in a sitting position will get wet.. however, a small tradeoff for a huge cooling benefit. Vest cost about $40 - $60 where ever you find HD stuff online.. more expensive in the shops I would guess. I'll try one soon to see how it works. But it's only good for 50 applications.. small investment for a few years of heat riding no? When the vest is dry, it's another layer under your clothes at any other time.. Just a thought. -

Silly person, why did you do that? (so says the person who went through the same thing you did last month while traveling from NS to TX lol.. Luckily for me, the friend I was visiting just happened to have THE tire I needed and even went thus far to install it for me.. Great learning experience for when I get my tires done up here.. =) Best of luck M8.. sounds like you're in one of the areas I was in a few weeks ago on our 12,000 km trip lol.. Port Dover in August..!! woohooo -
Speedometer 10% fast
Seaking replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Its one of those annoyances that you learn to live with but try explaining to someone that you're not actually speeding.. I sometimes lead a large group of bikers when we go on club ride and they all whine and complain that I'm doing 10 over the posted speed limit and that they are afraid of getting speeding tickets (not sure how that would work for the cop, trying to pull over 20 bikes at once.. who gets the ticket who doesn't.. lol.. ouch) However, they don't notice everyone else passing us on the highway at about 10 faster than we are traveling .. sigh..
