Larin used to make a lift with adjustable saddles on it. I think they still do. I just feel so much better with the Carbon One adapter though. I've been somewhat watching for a decent lift/table though. I ran across a nice Handy Lift on the Cleveland Craigslist a few weeks ago but he never responded to my email. I'm in no hurry but would try to find the funds to buy one if I were to run across a good deal.

There will be threads in the Rally and Meet and Each areas for each event at some point. They should also be placed in the calendar. I'll add links from the countdown page soon. Corrected. SURELY you didn't expect me to get anything right the first time. Thanks. I will get it added to the rally page.

I've heard a couple of people say that they are ready to forgive and forget and give the Oberlin, INN another chance. Since I'm not staying at a hotel, it makes no difference to me.

OK folks, June 2nd it is. I have added it to the calendar. It was mentioned that school is not yet out is some areas. I do understand that and know that it causes an inconvenience for some. I apologize for that but I just do not have another weekend free without pushing this back by at LEAST a month and even then there are some conflicts. So, I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible again.

I've started rebuilding the VRRallies page with the countdown timers. I'm removed a couple that I already knew would not repeat this year. There are some that I am not sure of yet. If I don't get responses and dates soon, I will remove them also. LOL...hey...I'm not knocking them in the least. I even said that there are some good instruments coming from China now. They just take a bit of a hit on the used market. I came close to buying a Fender Telecaster Squire a while back but then ran across a great deal on a Taylor Solidbody Standard. I've still got it and love it so far. Even at a great deal though, it was still much more than the Fender that I was looking at. I think I could easily make a few bucks on it if/when I decide to sell it though.

OK folks, it is time for me to start rebuilding our Rally Countdown page with the dates for our 2012 events. Please take a look at the events listed at: http://www.venturerider.org/rally/ Let me know if you hosted an event and will do it again in 2012 and what the dates are if you have set them. At this time, I have dates for the International Rally, Marcarl's meet and I've almost set the date for my Maintenance Day. I need your input on all the others and also any new ones.

OK folks, I'm trying to set a date for Maintenance Day. I always have to squeeze it in between company meetings, trade shows, etc. At this time, I'm looking at Saturday June 2nd. There will always be those who have conflicts on whatever date I pick but so far, this seems like the best date. I'm just putting it up for your comments.

It's probably been 5 or 6 years since I have been to an actual action. I used to go fairly often and enjoyed it. Never bought much though. There are a couple of online auction sites that I frequent from time to time but have only won one auction. I made a bit of money on it but probably not enough to make it worthwhile.

Well, like I said, I was sure that you had done your research and because of that, my response was not directly aimed at you. It was just a warning to anybody else that might be interested that the name brands that we used to could count on to mean something, don't always mean anything any longer. No way could I comment on what you bought without knowing what it is. To others looking though, Craigslist or Ebay can be decent ways to judge value. If you go to the Cleveland Craigslist for example and enter Squire in the musical instruments section, you will find Fender Squires for as low as $40.00 and others with guitar, case, amp, strap and stands for $100.00 and less. This is not just about Fender either. A LOT of manufacturers that used to have nothing but very well made models now also offer cheaper models that are made in China, Indonesia, Korea, etc. Some of them are pretty darn good too but just don't bring the price on the used market that their USA made equivalents do. Heck, even Martin has a line of guitars now that is made in Mexico. They aren't bad either. OH...and the SKB Freedom is not a bad case either. I have one for my Seagull Acoustic/Electric and it has done a good job and held up well. Pretty decent cases for the money.

You also have to be careful today with name brands. I'm sure that you more than did your research but you can't always count on something being valuable because of the name. Some Fenders are worth a lot of money and others are not even worth $100.00. The USA Fenders still bring good money and even some of the ones made in Mexico will command good prices but they also have a line of cheaper "made in China" guitars that you can pick up NEW for that price. Fender Squires are one example. I see them fairly often on Craigslist sold as complete packages including a cheap Chinese made amp, cables, etc. for sometimes less than $100.00. If you picked up a USA or even a Mexico built Fender for $100.00 though, you did very well.

I agree. I don't remember for sure but it seems that the wire going to that receptacle is only about a number 20AWG or something like that. -

Well, I am happy with the change for local and long distance riding. When we take a trip...which seems to not happen much lately...we always pull a fairly heavily loaded trailer and I think the bike just does much better with the VMAX rear. On the other hand, many hear say that they are perfectly happy with the stock rear even when towing a trailer. The biggest complaint I hear is from people who feel that the RPMs are too high after the change. It does take a little getting used to because by the sound, you will feel that you need to shift again and you are already in 5th. The fact is though, even with the VMAX rear, you are running about 500 RPM LESS in 5th than a first gen Venture does. In stock form, the RSV lopes along at about 1000 RPM less in 5th than a first gen Venture. After the change, That is cut to about 500 RPM. For me, it's a perfect compromise. It would be hard for me to advice which bike to do it on. For the local commuting, you will certainly feel the extra pep in the lower gears. If you are happy with the performance of your RSV on the road, then the RSTD would probably be the one to change. In most cases though,, I also prefer the lower rear when on the road also.- 8 replies

Well, in my case, I never ran the shock without air. I never used anything other than a progressive hand pump to check and adjust it. Also, I don't think that blowing the air seal has anything to do with it leaking. Most shocks that i have seen that were leaking oil would still hold air. -

I honestly don't think that you will find anything else that will give you as much bang for your buck as teh VMAX rear did. On my '99 RSV, I've installed the VMAX rear and also use K&N filters and the Dyna3000 ignition module. I've also experimented with several different mufflers over the years but I feel that they just made the bike louder and did little, if anything, for performance. I also feel that the K&N filters did very little for performance but I like them because I can just clean and reuse them. Now as for the Dyna30000. I really think that it does very little and I have seen Dyno charts that compare the stock ignition module to the Dyna3000 and those charts confirmed what I thought. The one thing that the Dyno does though is that it allows you to raise the RPM where the rev limiter kicks in. In stock configuration, I believe it kicks in at 6500 RPM. I have mine set on 7500 with the Dyna ignition. If I remember correctly, they recommend that you set it no higher than 7250 unless you change to the heavier VMAX valve springs. I have not installed the VMAX springs on my '99 and probably never will. Now the truth is that I very rarely rode in such a manner that I hit the rev limiter even at the stock 6500 RPM. There have been a few times when I was "playing" though and did hit it. It always surprised me because it just seemed that the engine was still pulling so well and that the rev limited came in way too soon. Now that I have it set at 7500, it seems must better suited for this engine. For the ability to raise the rev limiter, I recommend the Dyna3000 if you like to get on it pretty hard from time to time. For normal everyday riding though, I think it is a waste of money.- 8 replies

I just received a private message from Bisquit regarding John Nelson (Hipshot). This is all that I know at this time. Please keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers. Just wanted to let you guys know John is in the hospital in Victoria Tx. They're keeping him sedated. They have him on a breathing machine. His doctor has had him on oxygen for several weeks now. He has to fight for every breath. Saw him yesterday, he's resting comfortably. They are running every test known to man as well as taking samples and getting cultures. He's very sick down to 95 lbs a few weeks ago. Hopefully they'll figure out whats wrong and then they'll have a better idea what treatment he needs. He's in ICU so there's a nurse right there. He's being well cared for. Seems like since Jeannie died he's gone downhill fast. I'd appreciate you puttin the word out. All prayers greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure but I think that those special tools that you are thinking about are for those who might try changing the internals from one housing to another. I've pulled the rear end several times and have also swapped mine to a VMAX rear and never needed any special tools. I bought the until complete though and the gears were already installed in a RSV housing. -

I ran across that unit a couple of days ago when I was researching a new unit for the Chrysler Crossfire. I was looking at marine units because there aren't many silver colored units out there for cars. I need a single din size though. It looks great on the bike but don't want to give up the CB. Bluetooth would be fine for some things but when riding with a group, I want the CB for bike to bike communication. -
Yes, that is a very nice looking rig. I'm sure you will spend a LOT of time answering questions from admirers any time you stop for something.
