  1. I drove through there yesterday. Wasn't really worried but still scrunched down in the seat a bit.
  2. You are correct. That is how it works. Anytime you go to another post or another page it refreshes. It remains static as long as you stay on the same page.
  3. Most of you will probably notice it sooner or later but I just wanted to let you know that I have added a new banner to the upper right of our pages. You will see a banner for Ace High Leathers show up randomly with the very few others that I have running. Many of you have already dealt with Nanci at Ace High Leathers and therefore know about the fantastic works that she does. Now it is easy to get to her site by simply clicking the banner. Or, you can just go there now. http://www.acehighleathers.com
  4. I've never seen a remanufactured OEM shock for these bikes nor have I ever heard of anybody rebuilding one. If somebody has figured it out, it is news to me.
  5. As usual, I'm out of town. Just got off the phone with Eileen and found that we are without power at home. Lot of local flooding also. No estimation at this time as to when the power may be back on. They are saying that it could be an extended outage.
  6. I will also point out that you chrome ring does not need to be removed to install the visor. The original instructions that came with the ring showed to remove the front of the fairing and insert the visor between the light and the chrome ring.
  7. I'm surprised that nobody responded. I would have bet that somebody had put a centerstand on a California model before. My guess is that most just removed it. Good job. Looks like you came up with a good solution.
  8. Yes, i have them
  9. Well, I would certainly hope so. Very special dirt it was.
  10. HEY...what happened to all the souvenir Oberlin dirt that was on it when I delivered it? That was special dirt.
  11. Well, it's becoming apparent that I am going to have to respond to this. I hope it doesn't turn into a big deal because that may have been the intent of it even being mentioned. I have no problem at all with the ride reports by Twigg, Million Mile Rider or anybody else. They are not only welcomed but encouraged. I did ask that such reports be posted here. Even a normal blog page would be fine. The reports in question were being posted on a very political site that I would prefer not be linked to VentureRider in any way. That's the bottom line.
  12. I saw this morning that Sandy has been downgraded to a tropical storm. That's great news for all the folks along the east coast. Never mind. Just looked again and see that it has gained strength and is back to hurricane status again.
  13. I had a '95 Shadow Ace years ago. It was a great bike. Very reliable with no real know issues. The ONLY issue any of us had was a problem with the battery. Due to the space available, the battery was not rectangular but was narrower on one end. Apparently this caused the battery to overheat and leak acid. This leaking acid would run down and caused some corrosion problems. The only thing I would recommend is that you pull the battery cover and look for corrosion on the frame in that area. If I remember correctly, and Honda and Yuasa blaming each other for the problem, they finally came up with an updated battery that resolved the issue but Honda did a quite a few frame repairs due to that issue. Now I never personally had the problem on my '95. It was a great bike and fun to ride.
  14. There really weren't a lot of things to watch for on the '99 as opposed to later years. Check the bottom of the trunk to make sure it is not cracked. Yamaha released a "fix" for a problem where it wasn't well supported and some started cracking. There were some problems with the antenna's on the '99 models. They changed the design the following year. Otherwise, just the typical things for these bikes. Ride it to make sure that there is not a whine too loud for you to live with. That is not specific to the '99 though.
  15. hmmmm.....I don't see anything wrong with it.
  16. I think they are very cool bikes. Very old "WWII" BMW technology. We had a member here named "Thumper" at one time. He was a great guy, wish he was still around. Anyway, he bought something similar but I can't remember if his was a Ural or a Denpr. I THINK it was the Denpr though. He really liked it but I remember his report on it here. He said that basically you bought it and had to overhaul it right off the bat. Tolerances for bearings, rings, etc. were very bad from the factory. He said it was relatively inexpensive to do though and worth the effort. Now, If I've got the two brands straight, I think I also heard that the Ural was actually better built than the Denpr.
  17. Those are still pretty cool bikes. I ran across an RD350 a while back and gave it some serious thought.
  18. Picky Picky Picky......OK....I corrected it. I also realized that I left Orlin's MD off the list. I'll get it added tonight.
  19. I've got one but how soon do you need it? I'm out of town so can't possibly get it shipped until the weekend. Not sure it's worth the shipping cost but would be glad to do it if you need me to.
  20. LOL....it is SURE to. It started political I guess. I do think it's important that everybody vote but I doubt it will be long until it has to be deleted. Heck...maybe I should have deleted it immediately and certainly shouldn't have posted to it.
  21. Oh no...you don't get off that easy. You have stepped across the line. You do NOT get to decide if you are ready to turn in your "man card". WE will make THAT decision. Let's just say that you are now on double secret probation. We'll be getting back to you.
  22. NO....I can't take the background scrutiny. I voted two weeks ago though.
  23. Folks, I received an email from a new member. Username roger podoll has not posted here yet. Here is the message that he sent to me.
