  2. I would think that the last year 1st gen would be the most desirable by way of the improved ignition system. Then also the 83 the first year produced for nimbleness and quickness before Yamaha loaded it up. It is all for what you are happy with. I've had a 83 and now have a 86 but if I was buying another one I'd get the 93. Maybe another 83 just to rat it out.
  3. Check out this thread. It might help with the diagnosis. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25893&highlight=stuck+gear

    V-max?

OK, I have inherited my boys V-Max while he finished his drill Sargent's tour. I took it to coffee this morning. About halfway I stopped and laced into it 9 grand 1ST{red line} 8S after. It is quick I don't deny. But my 86 is allllllmost as quick in my book. Plus no WIND. God I love my venture! What is Yamaha doing. All this technology and not utilizing it to bring us a kick --- Venture. WAKE UP YAMAHA! I'll stop now and pop in another cassette. This post is in hopes that someone in charge in the Yamaha Corp. wakes up and realizes that number 2 in the full dress category just don't cut it and that there are more and more baby boomers now than at any time of history who have bucket lists. Which mean bigger retirement checks for those who appease us.

  8. I believe any that are compatible with aluminum will work. I use the green stuff. I know,I know green stuff. Not to technical.
  9. Read somewhere that you feed a dog and it looks at you like you are god. You feed a cat and it looks at you like it is god. Glad her cat came home.

    Boned again

Great, he quotes the wrong weight for a LONG TON and also is using a weight reference that is not used in North America. Yep, I've been boned by the best! Still going to call tomorrow to -----. If nothing else I hope it grits their guts alittle. I would think that running a business that deals with the public daily wouldn't like the bad talk that something like this can generate.

    Boned again

Cleaned up scrape steel at in-laws and throw more on I had myself to fill up dump truck. Called three local scrap yards about price of scrap today. Received three different prices. No brainer. Go to highest payer. BUUUUUT! Highest payer quotes $75.00 a ton. I haul in 4,080 lbs. Receive check for $136.61. I drive home before looking at check. I've been boned! Call scrape yard and ask "What gives you quote $75.00 a ton". He tells me he pays $75.00 for a "LONG TON". I ask what the --- is a "LONG TON"? He says "a LONG TON is 2,280 lbs". WHAT? Has anyone ever heard of this LONG TON term? It's the principle of the thing that gets my goat. I am doing this to help out my in-laws who could use every penny they can get. Only to be boned in the end. If there is such a thing as a LONG TON I won't feel quite so bad. Still though I feel he misrepresented his price by not explaining that there are {maybe} two meanings for the word TON. But if no one has ever heard of this term I'm ------ and it isn't over!
  13. Ahh, but his legend lives on!
  14. When life throws you a curve, roll into it. You'll have a ball. Just think how many scouts will go running when they see a big oilcloth thong wearing mountain man sporting a hot dog necklace. Seen another place to hide hot dogs but PG site.:rotfl:
  15. Logic is gone in the world. Bean counters keep it running smooth now. I receive a 9cent check occasionally for some Comcast stock dividends. Seems such a shame to even get it. I inherited some AT&T stock years ago from my grandmother. It was Blue-Chip stock when she bought umpteen years ago. Now it has been whittled down to almost nothing. Another lesson that when the Govt gets involved in splitting up monopolies get out quick or there are 9cent checks coming your way.
  16. Run or feed'em peanuts.
  17. Glad you like the new ride. They are a nice bike. Me and Barney are still flat-footing our old bike. But we are comfortable in our rides around the quarry.
  18. It is hard to believe. A car couldn't get 50,000 miles and the motor was about shot. But we put a man on the moon.......Or Did WE!!!!!:rotfl: Shakespere had to write those plays he lived a care free life riding his old horse "Venture"........Or Did HE!!!!:rotfl:
  19. That last guy hardly even flinches! I'll follow him after he clears the way.
  20. Just sold my other Venture last year. Now I miss having two 2nd Gen beaters {or eaters whichever the case may be}. So a chance on owning another 1st Gen for 10 bucks. I'm in if you do it.
  21. Very interesting. Thanks:D
  22. Mine is so big the town made a statue out of it.:rotfl:
  23. Being that the boss said "Thanks" I have to believe the answer to your question is "NOT ON THIS SITE"!
  24. Most for us is around 500 on a good day. Any more and my ears start to hear all kinds of negative things about my welfare and future sex life. The 100-10 rule is a good one for your health. The evil-ones ankles swelled up once from one day of pushing it. Since then we have added extra adjustable footrests for her. Vowed to never do that again. I'd miss her and I can't cook.
  25. The math conversions are a pain but what sends me over the top is the electrical wizards talking shop talk. Whew, to much information, overload, eminent brain shutdown!:rotfl:
