  1. i'm 56.....he's a kid to me !
  2. just finished reading his whole story....i'm speechless........that's the real definition of a biker.........that is one intelligent, self reliant, kid...america needs more like that i had a 76 550f...back in the 70's....and i have now a 75 550f, almost mint.......those honda's will run forever...with just a little care
  3. i get a whine in the corners....and it's coming from the tires.....however, the pitch changes with the speed....the tires are the stock 404's , and i'm over 12,000 miles with them......i'm sure it's your tires
  4. there's nothing in the manual that says you can't or shouldn't run radials on a venture..it does imply that you should only run the stock tire.......and very few people follow that...
  5. never heard of concrete leeching compounds from tires....i'd have to investigate that one.......it adds expense, but i'd coat the floor with an epoxy floor coating....best thing i did to my garage, course, mine's only a one car garage......
  6. sylvester naw...he just's wants to start ....anything that would appreciate in value is gonna cost too much now anyway...........for example...he picked up a russian rifle for $100 at a show...probably paid $99 too much...but it's a conversation piece.........
  7. thought i'd pass this along cabela's is selling a reproduction 1851 confederate navy colt .44 cal. pistol, black powder, new, for $129.99...pistol is made by Pietta...i am by no means a knowledgeable gun collector...and i'm sure this isn't gonna light fires under serious collectors..but my son wants to start a gun collection and it's a nice piece.......and maybe others might be interested......supposedly good through xmas........
  8. sounds right....i've never seen over 13.8
  9. the second gen rectifier is rated the same as the first gen.....from what i've learned on this site, the rectifier is not limited to allowing only 30 amps...it's limited to shunting 30 amps to ground.....if the bike is asking for 25 amps, and the stator can provide 55 amps...then 30 amps gets routed to ground......so increasing stator capacity is beneficial.....even though the rec. is rated at 30 amps... what i wanna know is...is there an aftermarket reg./rec. for the second gen because i'm tired of watching my voltage drop as i add my electric clothing.....and i have the buckeye stator.......
  10. i can't explain the flat threads on your fitting.....the fitting i used which i believe came from discount hydraulics.com screwed right into place.....and i removed it a few times when doing my gauge, and it showed no signs of any problem.........i also wrapped my threads with teflon tape...and i also think the fitting came with an 0-ring.....i've had no leak problem are you sure the leak is coming from the main plug and not from the oil line fitting.
  11. crash i just put one on my 08 silverado........i just piggy backed two wires into the stock horn wires and run those to the new stebel horn.........you do not need to know which wire is the feed.....if you hook up the new horn and it runs but doesn't honk...then you just reverse the wires...which is exactly what the instructions tell you do do.................................and then you get to stop people from trying to cut you off when merging....it did get their attention
  12. yeh...i found that out.....but when the metal washer on my fitting leaked and became distorted....i used an o-ring and that solved my problem.....just relaying what worked for me....and didn't see any comments about his fitting having an o-ring
  13. if it leaks again , use an 0-ring
  14. i also have the same observations as freebird.............i couldn't get enough of airplanes at the age of TWO ! ( confirmed by my mom and my memory).....subsequently, that included cars, bikes anything mechanical....by ten i wanted a mini bike in the worst possible way...and i do all my own wrenching well, i've got 4 sons....and none of 'em show interest like i did....and the two that are married don't want more than one or two kids........the boomer's have supplied the latest surge in bikes...and that 's probably the last great upswing
  15. i've plugged lots of car tires......haven't plugged a cycle tire yet.....but i will....and i'll probably run it till it's time to replace it but i wouldn't blame anybody if they throw away a good plugged motorcycle tire......a blowout on a car isn't the same as a blowout on a bike........
  16. i think dairy queen is.................FATTENING !!!
  17. yes...it was........but like most subjects like this.....it fades away......
  18. not news to me........i've known about msg for decades...........it's hard to avoid however............i do believe that it's no good
  19. i've always read and believe that oil additives are not needed in an engine that is healthy and using a name brand oil that meets the manufacturer's recommendations
  20. i just follow the manual recommended pressures and maintenance procedures......have over 12,000 on original 404's i'm at a loss too as to the great range of reported mileage.....if i only got 5,000, i'd have to quit riding........
  21. thanks.....i got it......so why don't i ( or should i ) see more than 13V at normal rpm with a good battery, 50 A stator, running 50w lamps, run/turn/brake lights ( incandescent ), silverstar ultra headlight, heated liner and gloves.............
  22. i've got a question/observation.....i decide i need more amps to run all my stuff., ..........so i go out and get the buckeye stator at 50 amps.......but now , i discover my voltage/regulator is 30 amps max ( service manual)....i'm still stuck with a 30 amp system...right ??...... and no aftermarket regulator......... just wanna see if i'm looking at this correctly......... and so any draw over 30 amps will come out of the ..battery ??
  23. maybe during testing or prooving ( proofing ?) runs yamaha encountered icing indications at one time ...so they added heaters thanks for the info.....i won't add a switch now..or remove the fuse
  24. page 7-22 07 venture manual\ the front and rear tires should (not must ) be of the same make and design, otherwise the handling characteristics of the vehicle cannot be guaranteed also, i found nothing in my manual that says you cannot run a radial tire.. i would not mix radial with a bias.......if enough people confirmed that they mixed different brands of the same type tire....i might consider that the manual also says that only dunlop 404 and bridgestone g705g /702g are the only approved tire for this model..........so much for that...
