o7 venture....installed mine in the right side cover

what does it take to install a vmax drive to an 07 venture....can i just buy a complete assembly...or just a couple of gears......and how much is the cost for parts would the final 5th gear ratio with a vmax rear be higher or lower than the 4th gear ratio on a stock second gen i discovered on my recent trip that running my stock venture in 4th gear , even at 65-70 indicated ( uncorrected) , that my gas mileage varied only 1-2 mpg......and whenever i encountered an incline , the bike just pulled better, felt smoother, in 5th gear it always appears to be lugging...even though i know it isn't....which brings up my next question what is the engine rpm at 70 mph indicated (uncorrected) in 5th gear and 4th gear...stock 2nd gen..

special thanks to freebird.also dealer..and a question
jlh3rd replied to jlh3rd's topic in Watering Hole
reading is from the voltmete gauge...but that power is coming from a relay which is receiving power from the lead which goes to the ignition switch NOT from the ignition switch........but i've checked voltage using a digital multimeter at idle and at rpm ...in neutral, parked.....13.2 and 13.8 respectively.....so that equates with the gauge........i just expect to see 13+ volts , even under max load....right?...i know some voltage drop is normal, and, according to the equation, if the amps increase, then voltage can drop......right........or resistance is increasing........ -
i want to thank freebird for what he offered and did for me...we were leaving on a blue ridge pkwy/ natchez trace may 2....of course, this had been planned for a year for vacation......4 days before leaving, the left rear coil failed ...and the dealer says may 12 backorder......my vacaton days are set a year in advance, there is no changing.....long story short...freebird sent me a spare coil, next day service.....no charge.....although , it turned out i didn't need it.....doesn't matter....it was there if i did....THANKS FREEBIRD>>> here's why i didn't need the coil....the service manager along with yamaha reps. ok'd a swap from another new bike from another dealership until my coil came in....so that coil actually made it and i picked the bike up may 1 and left may 2...on schedule......this service manager's name is ed and he works for yamaha of camp hill....this guy also warrantied my battery.......which failed in one year........so there are some good dealers out there........hope ed stays around........so thanks also to this service manager and camp hill of Pa. volts = amps . resistance.........ok..i'm showing 13.8 volts at cruising...... as i turn on accessories ( heated clothes ) etc. the voltage drops to the point where it appears i'm showing about 12.2....maybe even closer to 12....i noticed my gloves were not getting all that warm and i also wasn't using my heated pant liners, which would add more load............so is the system operating correctly.......this is a brand new battery and i have the buckeye stator......my guess is i have resistance somewhere???.......all connections have been checked.......my battery never ran down... i also run passing lamps and a run/turn/brake light system..........how can i test for proper amp output from the stator......

tall vs short windscreens
jlh3rd replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
i just finished 1900 mile trip with an xl clearview windshield on my 07....i was two up no trailer ,so we were fully loaded.....i got 41 - 43 mpg.....( 39 with ethanol )....and my carbs haven't been synched......freebird, you're right ...those headwinds/crosswinds out west can be relentless ...and i've seen an almost 10 mpg drop in mileage in those conditions- 21 replies

roadhand not trying to hijack this thread....you will find the blue ridge a great road as well as the trace....the trace is more level and easy gentle curves ...don't pass up the "tail of the dragon" since your gonna be in the area.......any questions ...just ask....- 21 replies

yep..warranty issue but doesn't matter if dealer doesn't have part and trip plan is for a sat. takeoff...........i have called 10-15 or more dealers across the nation and all say part must be ordered from japan...not in stock freebird, thanks....see PM

07 venture...left rear coil.....vacation planned for a year...supposed to leave this saturday....i need that coil...anyone here have one....need fed exed....... supposedly, a coil from a 1st gen will fit...but don't know if it will work...it is a different part number...so any guru's here that can answer that

congratulations.....america still has the finest fighting force in the world...as evidenced by the recent seal's takeout of those pirates...so your son is now a part of this, of which you will be proud of i had two sons who were in the Pa. guard ( airborne)...one served in bosnia,....... the other in ramadi.,and who received a silver star.......a third son is full time army,

it was the coil........luckily. the part should be here fri.......we leave may 1st for the blueridge and natchez trace.........that's what i was concerned about......
-
hey...that's not what i wanted to hear........now that i added gauges and a buckeye stator....let's see what kind of warranty arguments they can come up with.......actually, the service manager has been good so far....he just gave me a new battery....but, he ain't santa clause...
-
thanks for the diagram, that helps......the two wires at the bottom are connected......can the coil wire come loose from the coil?......i replaced the battery...is there something i knocked loose
-
07 venture...6900 miles. purchased new.........i'm getting no spark at the left rear cylinder...plug checks good....other three are firing.........new battery........i really can't make heads or tails of the wiring diagram......is there any fuse anywhere that would affect just one plug?
-
thanks and are you saying that the battery is reversing itself and losing amps through the solar charger at night....
-
thanks the stator is the buckeye...which i didn't mentioned to the dealer.....my solar puts out 20v. @ 66 milliamps......so i figured that should be ok....and i ride occasionally during the winter....i don't think i killed the battery...i think it developed a defective cell.....
-
condor i've never charged the battery with the standard charger...i was just curious about it......only the battery tender and my solar charger were used on it..... so, even my standard charger if set for 2 amp charge , would be ok to use..since it shuts off automatically...
-
07 venture, stock battery......battery failed 3 load tests; mine, Battery Plus, and the dealer......shows 12+ volts, drops to 6V under test......dealer has already been given the go ahead to replace it free....but he must try to " bring it back up " first ( 24 hr charge)..... here's my questions.....he says that my battery tender, which is a Battery Tender jr., will not properly charge this type battery...nor will a regular charger, and that they will damage this battery......that i need to get the charger that yamaha has...........i might buy the story about a regular charger, but not about my battery tender not working on an agm as Battery Tender says it will....so......who's right? and...what should the minimum voltage reading be under a load test.....( just for my clarification) and...my regular charger does shut off when battery shows charged, so why shouldn't it work also

Car engine oil for the RSV ?
jlh3rd replied to FL-Venture-Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
venture rider an analysis of oil done by a lab can tell what specific weight and type of oil was used....so, if the oil did not meet the requirements mentioned in the owner's manual, then the dealership doesn't have to honor the warranty......BUT.. you do not have to use their oil, that is blowing smoke...... there is a law that covers this subject... i just can't think of it...starts with an "M"..........
