  1. That's 'cause you Aussies are already from a different planet, you dont need no stinkin' radar!!
  2. Right on Mel! If they are selling them at $35 cheaper, they are STILL making a profit, so it is poor customer relations to GOUGE a previous customer. Getting the word out is the way to do it, hurt them in the wallet and let them know you are doing it.
  3. The old guy who used to live behind me told me one day he had some real bad news, I had heard of the accident through town but did not realize it was his son and grandson. The kid was rocketting around with his cousin who was an OPP, so they figure he thought he was immune to tickets. He crested a hill at warp speed and a car was turning out of a golf course and they figure he was doing 100mph when he hit. The bike actually cartwheeled high enough to take out some telephone lines and the kid went into the ditch with arms extended, this ripped them both off. Now the truly bad part, his Dad was playing golf one hole away from the road, recognized the bike and ran over to see his kid like that. Dad was hospitalized for weeks, missed the funeral and everything. Sad, sad thing and look how it ripples the pain throughout your family and friends.
  4. Got this in my email today, but it was erroneously reported that the guy lived. Did a snopes test, and unfortunately it really did happen, but he obviously did not survive. Be warned you may find this offensive. But if you read the story you can see why his parents released the photos. http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/tulsacrash.asp
  5. Ouch loosening screws!!! That had to hurt, good luck to her, Tom. You gotta stop having her hold up the rear end so you can clean the rim, time to get a jack or a steve anyone but a tater ....
  6. I PRESUME I'm not the only one having a hard time getting this map to load up? I had an idea, perhaps if we created a map in Google maps called venturerider and give it a password like freebird and then we could drop in and pinpoint our place to the inch on the map. And it would be the site's members map, password protected. Just an idea.
  7. Aaah I see you have the 05 Silver model, yours must also be equipped with ACR. The ACR will activate and turn blue whenever you are in range. If you switch your CB to channel 51 at this time the Alien Communicator Radar will activate and you can talk to the little blue men.
  8. We always run across something we didn't expect to see while out riding. I live near the Welland Canal which is a series of locks allowing ships and boats to by pass the Niagara River and the Falls while continuing on their Great Lakes route. There are always tons of cargo ships floating by and one of my favourite lunches is to go to Port Colborne on West St. (beside the canal) grab an order of Lake Erie perch ($8.50!!) caught fresh yesterday from Minor Fish & Chips and watch the ships and boats float on by. Last September when I arrived at the canal, there was a yacht moored there that was truly jaw-dropping. This beauty was called the Sycara IV and said it was out of Bikini (Islands?) It was a mass of chrome and highly polished wood. Shone like crazy, and with all that chrome it was a naturally biker magnet. I didn't have a camera but got the following picture from Google. Doing a little Internet research I also found out the following: Burger Boat Company has announced the delivery of Sycara IV, a 46m Fantail Motor Yacht, to her owners. Imagine going back to a time when people actually knew how to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of yachting. Owners of Sycara IV, Ray and Elsie Catena, were committed to exactly that – recapturing the splendor, grace and charm of an era gone by – when Sycara IV was designed. This was their inspiration for Sycara IV, a beautiful traditionally styled, early 1920's era, Fantail Cruiser. An impressive collaboration of high profile experts were involved in the design and execution of this yacht, including: first and foremost, Mr. and Mrs. Catena with their extensive yachting experience and yacht building knowledge; Steve Narkawicz, their highly experienced and talented project manager; Bruce King with his classic schooner bow and fantail hull; Ken Freivokh, chosen to define her interior and exterior styling true to the early 1920's and Burger's team of designers, engineers and craftspeople. While the Catenas have cruised distant ports of the world with their previous vessels, the vision for this family yacht is to see America and its surrounding waters such as the Great Lakes, the Erie Barge Canal system, its mighty rivers and the Intracoastal Waterways. Sycara IV will make her world debut at the 2009 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. So, it would seem they were on their maiden voyage, breakin' the ole tug in .... so to speak! Like me, you are no doubt wondering, what does Mr. Catena do for a living? http://www.raycatena.com/ This is the website for his Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus dealerships in NY and Manhattan. Aaaaah, how the other side lives.... I can only dream. Another interesting little adventure on the bike. And yours?
  9. ALL RIGHTY ... so when is the Cougar's Open House Clean & Shine?? Forget that maintenance stuff I'm all about the sparkle!! My daughter said to me once,"It hurts your eyes to look at the chrome in the sun." "Aaaaah almost there .... ", I replied.
  10. FOR SURE !!! Now that you've said you were okay, try calling back and saying you have some aches and pains and see the reception you get. Said from experience!! Insurance Shylocks!!
  11. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47225&highlight=clean Hey guys, please see the above thread. When I contacted P&G about the lack of soap and sponge refills I was told that they are DISCONTINUING the product. I know bummer huh?
  12. My wife had always poopoo'ed the idea of getting a bike, then a co-workers husband died at only 47, she got a picture of Rick riding a Harley on his tombstone 'cause that is what he always wanted. I had always said if we won any money I'm buying a bike, you can spend the rest. Then her coworker tells her if there is something your husband really wants you should let him get it, she feels bad Rick didnt get his bike. This coincides with the mortgage being paid off. I get told if I want to get a bike, AND I take all the safety courses, go get one. Ran to the local store for the Bike Trader before she changed her mind! Checked out the insurance, and since I never bothered with insurance or license when I was young, I now had to go through the Graduating License System. Figured I better get something smaller to start so I had a 04 VStar Classic for 3 years. After a year and a half wife finally climbed on the back. Then she agreed we needed something bigger. When I went for my M2 Exit test one of the fellow testers husband had an 05 Venture in liquid silver, I was in love with the bike!! Got the Bike Trader and started searching. I was all set to go to Windsor (5 hour drive) but the guy was funny about riding it, and he wanted $16,500. Then I found one online at Barrie Harley, we wife and I drove up on the Monday, they dropped $1000 down to $14500 eventually!! Had passing lamps, rear light bar, new floorboards, chrome etc etc. Sold the VStar on the Wednesday. Planning to go up on the Saturday to pick up the Venture but Friday was July 13th so Dunnville was full of "iron" passing on through to Port Dover .... drove me nuts. So I called up and asked if it would be ready and they said ok. Next called Greyhound and figured if it could be done, and so off I went on 5 hours of connecting buses to pick up the new baby. All the way up I'm passing bikes going south to Dover .... then the last bus I get on is a city bus and people are ringing the dinger to get off .... OMG... last minute into Barrie bus depot, flying off the bus for a cab shouting "Harley Dealership Fast!!" a la Amazing Race!! Got there in the nick of time, had a very brief this-is-your-bike-tour and few circles in the court in front of the HD dealership, and then onto Hwy 400, through Toronto all the way home. Everything was great until I got home and then backing it up in order to park under my back awning I proceeded to lay it down!! Had a heart attack! Thank God for highway pegs, floorboards and saddlebag rails!!! No damage (except for 5 years off my heart) And thats how she came to be ....
  13. I have the same backrest, previous owner purchased it. I did lose a bolt out of it and had to replace it. Either vibrated out or who knows? Works fine for me, sometimes the wife will rest her hands on it too, for a change in position. Fits me nice, I have my bike lowered in the rear and the pad hits in the back of the ribs. And as you can see makes a dam nice helmet holder! (Sorry no pics of rest )
  14. I also have a Scorpion half helmet with the pop down windshield. I do like the idea of the helmet, but when it is in the raised position there is a little rattling noise. But it has a nice fit, interior is removable for cleaning and of course the most important thing .... it matches the colour of my bike but it does have that "Mister Gazoo" look to it. Although when you have a melon the size of a pumpkin, trying out helmets can be like trying on bathing suits .... yeech! Good luck. http://www.helmetcity.com/page/HC/PROD/scorpionhelmets/exo100solid
  15. Just for you Annie .... here he is...
  16. For sure, I can just hear the guys at Barrett's now, "one of a kind, rare as hens teeth" it would be worth a fortune. My neighbour has a 59 vette with side scoops done in red and black cherry, mint condition, saw one on Barretts go for over $100K ..... amazing what people will pay, but they live in different world.
  17. I was riding into work (5:30 am) still dark and it was my first adventure with fog. Before I chopped the windshield it was over my head (runt!) so I had pulled over to the side of the road and was commencing to get off to wipe down the windshield, it was in "N" .... and as I went to dismount it went on a slow roll down the road. Somehow (freakin' miracle!) I manged to half slide back into the seat and reach across quick for the front brake. Heart was hammering!! I had stopped on a slanted shoulder in the dark and had not realized it!
  18. I had a '80 Dodge Horizon, the closest I've ever seen to something actually being possessed by the devil. Thing cost me $2000 and I spent $1800 on a tranny 2 months later, and then things went downhill ..... left me stranded hundreds of miles from home .... we still talk about that car. Told a guy at work I was dumping it and he offered $300 sight unseen!! I sold it, transferred ownership (THANK GOD) and 2 days later the battery died so he charged it and his neighbour came knocking .... burned his freaking garage down. I told him it was possessed! Satan's Sedan!!
  19. thanks guys.... Reason I asked is it "sounds" different when started in first versus neutral. Paranoid Pete here .....
  20. Actually one leads to the other ..... Does it do any harm to pull the clutch and start in first gear and subsequently, does it do any harm to leave it parked in gear so it doesn't roll on a hill???
  21. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OCoS81G2CY]YouTube- The Cutting Edge[/ame] Here are the cadillac of knives ....... need a mortgage though ......
  22. Strange, I read this beetches comments and I can't seem to get that AC/DC song out of my head .....Dirty deeds done dirt cheap ..... got an address?
  23. Not sure how many golfers there are in here, but this is one of the best golf deals going, so I figured even if just one of you is into it, its worth it. I just finished my yearly order. For $30 you get $2500 in savings, 2 for 1, 4 for 3, half price at a bunch of courses, with weekends at some places too. Two thumbs up! You can see the courses available and specials at the following site. Southern Ontario based. http://www.thegolfpak.com/
  24. This guy is located on highway 20 east of Smithville. Just came back from purchasing a jacket, quite happy with a textile Himilaya with two liners for $135 including taxes. He has really grown and I recommend the guy wholeheartedly. He is a rider and has opened a building on his farm, so low overhead and low prices. If you're riding in the Niagara direction, make a point to drop off and see Ed, you'll be glad you did. (Closed Mondays and Friday opens at noon) http://tonsofbikegear.com/
  25. Hey Count: I don't know if your familiar with cross border shopping (ie Ebay) but watch the delivery method. USPS is good! Whereas UPS and others charge a brokerage fee for cross border stuff. Can be brutal (ie: Ping driver cost $29, duty $4, UPS ripoff fee $21) Also, fair warning, to get them to hang right (ie level with the bottom of the bags) you will see other peoples threads about drilling your own holes about 3/4" below Yammies improper holes .... this from experience. FYI .... just trying to help.
