1. It was a great time (despite my having to pull off so the g/f could take a work call, then catch up). Thanks to Randy for putting it together. We couldn't have asked for better weather and a great group of guys & gals. I don't recall who was asking me about the LED pods I have on either side of my license plate of my 06' Black Cherry, but here's the info: They are Hyper-Lites Universal Dual Function (two 8-LED pods, http://www.hyperlites.com/unikits.html#brake). The M&E was a great pre-shopping trip for me.... now I know I want (need?) some "safety chrome" visors for my turn signals and a set of "safety chrome" fork end covers, too!
2. Once audio is playing on the Zumo you can switch to any of the other screens: current map, address book, compass, trip info, photos, etc. and the music keeps on playing. When the GPS is ready to give directions it mutes the XM, makes the nav announcement, then unmutes the XM. If you're listening to MP3s, it pauses the MP3, makes the nav announcement, then resumes the MP3. I don't use iTunes (just MP3s I've ripped from my CD collection) so I can't answer this one. Hopefully, someone with some knowledge here will chime in with some info.
3. Since you already have the satellite radio & GPS units, it's a little late for this solution: Garmin Zumo. Satellite radio, MP3 player and GPS guidance from one unit (plus bluetooth connection to your cell phone). Works nicely and sounds great.
4. I ran into a little trouble emailing the link to the Google Map of the ride due to the length of the URL, so I got a tiny URL... just thought I'd share it here in case anyone else could possibly benefit from it: http://tinyurl.com/VentureRidersME
5. Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday. I sent a PM about the Service Manual, if it's still available.
6. You might try the Interphone Bluetooth Helmet Kit from BlueAnt: http://www.myblueant.com/interphone-motorbike-helmet-kit.htm It's a fully-funtcional helmet-mounted BT headset. You can directly pair two Interphone headsets to serve as bike-to-bike intercom. I used this setup for quite some time before getting my RSV. The BT range is advertised at 490 feet, though my experience is that it's actually closer to 300 feet at best. You can pair the Interphone to your BT-enabled phone or to a BT GPS device (like Garmin's Zumo 550). I used it on the RSV with the Zumo for a while before reading about & purchasing the mic cable from BuddyRich. I have my plug-in headset on one helmet & the interphone on another. It all depends on who I'll be riding with (if they have CB, I use the wired connection; if it's one of my friends with an Interphone I use that for intercom purposes). For best results, two other guys that I frequently ride with have the Interphone headsets. We each pair them to our own cell phone, then we start a 3-way phone call and start riding. Since we're all on the same carrier, the call is free -- and sometimes it's for 60 to 90 minutes! We don't have any range problems when we ride like this.
7. I installed the J&M Windshield bag on my '06 RSV. There are no screw holes that line up with the cycle's windshield screws; it's held on by tension -- the lower portion is clamped by the windshield mount. I've had it on board for about 6,000 miles without any problems. It's a well-made product. Here's the link from the J&M website: http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?PF=6&ProductID=HDCH-990
8. Don't ask why, but it's under the "Windshields" section under accessories. Part Number STR-4NK58-10-00, $19.95: http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/accessories/acsubcontaineritems/5/4/83/408/all/1.aspx BTW, I have the headlight visor & passing lamp visors. Both are good quality and add, in my opinion, a nice finishing touch to the front end.
9. While out riding my Black Cherry RSV I came across another Black Cherry RSV today. Saw it a few times in the "neighborhood" of winding roads. Specifically, at the intersection of PA-10 & US-322 at 3:30 p.m., riding two-up, rider w/a yellow shirt. ..anybody from here??
10. This thread should help with the installation: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=177871 I have it among my subscriptions for future reference, but it also comes up first when searching using the Google search (as per Freebird's post) and the search term "iso grip install"
11. The OEM Yamaha Passing Lamps provide adequate light for me: http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/4/83/408/all/1/241/0/detail.aspx and the visors provide a nice finishing touch (more chrome is never a bad thing): http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/4/83/408/all/1/117/0/detail.aspx Do a search on this forum and you'll see various other lights used on RSVs by members here -- very creative on varying budgets. As for backrests... I have (and love) the Utpoia backrest: http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html The other popular option seems to be the Diamond R backrest: http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV%20Custom%20Drivers%20Backrest Good luck with your new cycle!
12. I don't like the music (or anything, for that matter) directly in my ears, so I run with the audio system set to speakers, while having my headset plugged in. Plus, it is illegal in PA to have audio other than communications coming through the headsets on a motorcycle - not that I'm concerned about getting a ticket for that. Anyway, the mic still works for intercom, CB & cell phone with the audio coming through the external speakers -- except for the intercom audio which always comes through the headsets.
13. OK... Maybe I should READ the post before I chime in... RSTD is not the same as RSV. sorry
14. You can add Baron's 1.5" Riser Extensions: http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/777/index.html Many here have them. They did the trick for me: no more sharp pain between the shoulder blades after long rides. The risers will come into contact with the black plastic piece around the ignition key hole, but no damage (if you have the chrome cover, I understand that the chrome will crack). It's an easy install, but is nice to have a friend there to tighten the bolts while you hold the bars in position. Of course, a pad or a few towels on the tank to prevent unsightly accidental dings should the bars slip when loosened. There is plenty of slack in the stock cables to install the Baron's extensions.
15. Jim: I purchased the SM-3SV, but that was for Suzuki Volusia. It was a splice-in model. They probably don't list one for the RSV or RSTD because these bikes have turn signal cancellation already. I would look at the SM-4 (if the plug matches) or possible the SM-3SV (splice-in), but it would take some fiddling, I'm sure. My initial thoughts would be that you could set the ts cancellation on the signalMinder to the longest setting so it would not interfere with the built-in ts cancellation already on the bike -- the bike would cancel them before the SM module's time ticked away. Then you'd only be using the SM module for running lights (if you hooked that up) and flashers. I'm not sure that it would work as I have not done it on the Yamaha myself, but I don't see why not. This is all just my
16. Take a look at the Kisan signalMinder. I added it to my Suzuki Volusia, mainly for turn signal cancellation & running lights, but it has the added benefits of 4-way flashers and escort mode flashers (alternating left-right turn signals). It utilizes the stock turn signal switch for the flasher features: four consecutive on/off lefts for 4-ways, rights for alternating.
17. You might want to take a look at this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=82295 I had my fairing split (for other reasons) when I swapped out my bulb, so it wasn't an issure for me.
18. Seeing photos of the "hockey puck" method is a big help.... click HERE for an article, w/pics. Go to the Tech Library, then 2nd Gen, then Miscellaneous, then "How to Use a Sears or similar lift with an RSV."
19. If your passenger has a headset, you'll pick up anything she says in your ears (& she'll hear everything you say) -- the mics are always open. Now just like you hold the "talk" button to transmit over the CB, she can hold her "talk" button to transmit over CB. Otherwise, you can talk to each other over the headsets, no need to press/hold any button(s).
20. And it's 38.58 MPG (US Gallon) 233 / 14.2 = 16.4 km per liter... then use this site, pick the conversion you need (km/l to MPG), then type in the numbers & it does the math for you: http://www.easysurf.cc/cnver4.htm

23. I just purchased a passing lamp spacer from Tony. Just send him an email: dathan@shaw.ca This thread has the install instructions, along with photos. Paid $27.50 US via PayPal and the spacer arrived about 10 days later in the mail.
24. Looks good for summer riding.
25. It looks good! I have my stock windshield in a box in my garage and am contemplating cutting it down. What shield is that on yours? Did you cut it down or buy a shorty?
