  1. Thanks for the pics! Unfortunately, that positioning doesn't let me stretch out comfortably. I just mounted my dually pegs with the clevis that hooks directly to the 1" bar clamp. I only took it out for a spin around the neighborhood; it'll have to wait til the weekend for a long highway ride to see if this positioning works for me.
  2. Moakster: The instructions inside the packaging say that the Kury will fit over "some stock shifters." And goes on to say if it doesn't push over, then you must remove the OEM rubber, apply some black electrical tape to the shifter to build it up a bit, then slide on the Kury cover. Trust me, on the RSV, the Kury will not fit over the shifter peg with the OEM rubber still on.
  3. It looks like a little prying and a lot of patience will do the trick. I'll be in the garage after dinner tonight! Thanks for all the replies. I'll post my results this evening.
  4. Just received the Kuryakyn Shift Peg covers and am having a bear of a time trying to remove the OEM rubber covers from the shifter. On my other bikes I was able to muscle it off over the end of the shift peg without cutting (or otherwise damaging) the OEM rubber. Anybody have the Kury shift peg covers installed? How did you get the OEM rubber off? Did you have to cut them off? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here; I'm sure somebody out there knows the trick and will share it here. Thanks!
  5. Do you have any pics? I turned & twisted & tweaked and couldn't find a good way to mount the Kury Dually with Longhorn Offsets that didn't have them in the swing path of the lower wind deflectors. I'm curious to see how yours are mounted.
  6. I had a set of Kuryakyn Dually pegs with the Longhorn Offset mounts... just couldn't get a good mounting position because they would be in the way of the deflectors. I've ordered just the 1" clamps with the clevis mount for the pegs (basically, getting rid of the Longhorn's "arm"). They should arrive by the end of the week. If I can get them mounted in a comfortable position, without interfering with the path of the deflectors, I'll post some pics.
  7. Pics, as promised. I keep mine at about a 45° angle to direct fresh air into my lower legs. I'm sure I'll be closing them in right alongside the cowl once the temperature drops (haven't had the RSV in cold weather yet).
  8. I'm at the office now, but will post pics tonight (unless someone else posts before I get home).
  9. You could try a Boostaroo portable amplifier & audio splitter. It uses two AA batteries and plugs directly into the MP3 player's 3.5mm audio jack. The Boostaroo then has 3 outputs that you could plug headsets or a patch cable to the built-in AUX jack on the bike. I use one of these on my MP3 player in-line with speakers in my helmet and my passenger's helmet when riding my Volusia (no stereo on that cruiser) and have had good results. The best thing is the cost: $29.95 at Target. You might save a few bucks buying on-line, but don't forget to factor in shipping costs and, of course, the wait.
  10. I used squidley's instructions for splitting the fairing and wiring in a splitter for the AUX jack last night. Worked out with no problems at all. It's posted here (w/pictures): http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3905 I also replaced the stock H4 headlight bulb with a Sylvania SilverStar 9300 bulb -- much brighter! And I took Freebird's advice and popped open the large wiring harness connectors and applied diaelectric grease to keep them clean & moisture-free (a little preventative maintenance here).
  11. When you installed the Flanders bars, did you replace clutch & brake lines or just the throttle cables? How difficult was the installation. I've been kicking the idea around myself....
  12. Repeating a mod from previous bikes (and as posted a couple of times here), I wired in and mounted my garage door opener today. I put it on the plastic flange/cover just above the gas cap. Just wanted to share this mounting location in case people are looking for options other than mounting the button on the dash. There was plenty of room to stick the opener under there, the push button is pretty unobtrusive and I can get to it easily with either hand. Drilled a small hole in the opener case for wires which I soldered to the switch contacts of the opener. Drilled a 1/2" hole in the flange/cover to mount the push button switch from Radio Shack ($4). Popped everything back together, tightened up the two bolts and it's time to hit the road again. Pics below....
  13. Thanks! I was in the shop -- having ridden there with the antenna magnet-mounted to the gas tank, still trying to think up a mounting plan -- when I saw the inspection plate. They let me take it out to the parking lot to check for size and there it was!!! Unfortunately, the plate is not magnetic so the antenna wouldn't hold on which is why I mounted the antenna's steel plate. Once you're settled in from your move and I get that mic cable you make, my Zumo will be the "do-all accessory" on my RSV. I wanted to share the idea; I know I've picked up several useful tips from here in the short time I've been logged on.
  14. Mounted the XM antenna (GXM-30) for the Garmin Zumo 500 today. Used a Kuryakyn inspection sticker plate (part #9168) mounted to the right side mirror post. Drilled two 5/32" holes in the Kury plate, using the Garmin antenna's steel baseplate as a template. Screwed the baseplate to the antenna from below (screws & baseplate provided with the GXM-30 antenna). Used two screws and nylon locking nuts to secure the baseplate to the Kury plate. Screwed the right side mirror post through the Kury plate's mounting hole. Easy installation, works great, looks good and is pretty secure. Pics below. Now it's time to go out riding & enjoy the XM radio.............
  15. Though I can't answer your question specifically as I haven't tried mounting to that plastic piece, I can suggest another RAM mount solution: The RAM-B-252-U. The mount fits nicely on the left mirror post and provides the base for your RAM system. I have a RAM-B-201-A next, then the mounting plate for my GPS unit. It puts the GPS right above the radio/CB controller and looks (at least to me) like it belongs there. The best selection & pricing I've found for RAM components is http://www.expressmounts.com. They have excellent customer service & fast shipping.
  16. It looks like CustomDynamics will be getting 45 of my dollars for the LED Storbe module. That's what I like about these forums - helps keep the $$ from burning holes in my pockets!!
  17. It looks like a great piece of equipment... especially with the adjustable flash speed. Can the flasher be set to flash in the beginning and then remain solid? The strobe flasher website wasn't completely clear. I think I would prefer brake lighting that flashes for a bit and then stays steady. I have a Kisan TailBlazer on my Volusia and I really like the descending flash rate that ends up solid. My RSV has the Radiantz LED Retro kit which is much brighter so I'm not going to replace that with a TailBlazer. I have the LED lights in the trunk spoiler, but am looking for a way to wire it to flash upon braking.
  18. RAM Mounts have a wide selection of mounting hardware. It's all good quality and the price isn't astronomical. I've used RAM mounts (on motorcycles & boats) for years with GPS units, MP3 players, cell phones & cameras and have nothing but positive experiences. Among the best prices & selection can be found at http://www.expressmounts.com All those other ideas sound great, too... and cheaper!
  19. Well, I just sealed the deal this morning. I'll be picking it up my "new to me" '06 RSV next week. The guy I'm buying it from is the 2nd owner (depsite that, she only has 2,800 miles on her). He doesn't think he has the bones but is going to give me the "box of stuff" that he got from the 1st owner. If everything is in there then I'm all set. If not, it looks like I'll be posting here to see if anyone will sell me their stock bones. Thanks for the info.
  20. If all goes well, I'll be picking up "my" '06 at the end of the week. It is already lowered. If it doesn't suit me (6' tall, mostly legs) can you provide info on returning it to stock? Without the lowering kit instructions I don't know what to undo. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
