I now have to agree with Scott. This old bike does need any help finding spots to corrode. But in my younger days I rode all winter in Wisconsin. I had winter tires and summer tires. The winter tires were the narrowest ones I could get on the rim. Up to about 6 inches of snow was no problem. Now I am old and have realized that I MAY be mortal.

My Venture just decided to be out up for the winter.

Thanks Squeeze, Option 2 sounds like a much better option. Now we need Dano to chime in with the rest of the info for cost, turn around time, and where to send it. I have applications that I use the type of clutch that you are referring to that have to "slip" at 20,000rpm yet lock up rite now with no slip allowed. Second question, I have seen many posts on the starter clutch refer to the 72th gear, the parts breakdown refers to it as a 76T gear (Item 6 on the parts breakdown in the tech library). Which is it, or are we talking two different parts? -

I was just going to order the same stock parts. I know nothing at all about this mod. So please start from the beginning. -

Dano Did you ever make that post about the Starter clutch upgrade? I couldn't find it. We are having a heatwave here, the temp is actually supposed to get above freezing for a whole weekend. I may actually go out and start working on this starter clutch, this weekend so that I can get my shopping list in order. -
Just ignore winter. Here is a pic from the radio control New Years Day fly in that we had today. After all of the snow storms that have been rolling thru, we finally got some nice warn weather, it got all of the way up to 15°F for today. Yes that is snow and ice in Wisconsin on New Years Day.

I'm game. I have a couple of projects for the bike before I can ride. Loud clunk in the starter and a slipping clutch. I will be ordering the parts as soon as (if?) I get my tax return. I may have to trailer it to the MD.

Dumb (rum) Balls 1 bottle Stroh 80 Rum 1 8oz pack of pecans or walnuts (I prefer pecans) 1 box of regular Nabisco Nilla Wafers (don't substitute) 1.5 Tbs molasses 1.5 Tbs clear Karo Corn syrup Sifted powdered sugar Finely chop the nuts and grind the Nilla wafers in a food processer. In a cup mix the molasses, corn syrup, and 8oz of rum. Add rum mix to nuts and Nilla crumbs in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly , add more rum till a ball will just squeeze through your fingers when you squeeze some in your fist. Roll into balls of about 3/4 inch diameter, (they should be a little soggy and hard to roll) immediately roll in powered sugar and place in a bowl that has a lid that seals. I always sift some powdered sugar into the container to keep the balls from sticking to the bottom. Once all of the balls are rolled, go back and give each of them a second coat of powered sugar. You can not get to much powered sugar on them. Keep them sealed in the container or all of the good stuff will evaporate. They do not need to be refrigerated but keeping them cool will preserve flavor and potency. Avoid eating cookies and driving. This recipe is world famous in the radio control Helicopter world.

Are you sure that you really want to feed the pond monsters? They could start to multiply.

The city just changed thousands of traffic signals to nice energy efficient LEDs. Now that we have had our first real snow of the season, it was determined that the nice efficient LEDs run so very nice and cool that they can not melt the snow and ice off of the lens. So now there are nice "efficient" diesel trucks and crews running around with ice scrapers attached to long poles to scrape all of the snow and ice off of the thousands of traffic lights. There have been several accidents already because the traffic lights can NOT be seen. I wonder if they are saving enough on electricity and longer bulb life to pay for the trucks and crews to be running around cleaning the lights?????

I can only hope. I love lake effect snow where we can get 10 inches of partly cloudy with no warning. I just had to rub it in a little, here I am right in the middle of this "major" snow storm an nuttin to show for it.

Another big blew-it by the forecasters. I went to bed last night expecting to have all kinds of fun playing in the 8-14 inches of snow that was being predicted for the last week. All I heard on the news was about this monster storm coming, the Great White Death, gloom and doom, dogs and cats living together, ........... Live reporters scattered all over the area, a reporter at the salt piles, reporters by all of the plow trucks standing by, reporters at major intersections, ......... Well I woke up this mourning nice and early to have time to deal with the pinheads on the road for my 20+ mile commute, and when I opened the door to leave there was nothing, not a single bit of snow on any paved surface and Maybe a half inch on the grass, and I did not find any snow anywhere on the drive in to work! I realize that there were some people that got hammered like Madison WI with 17 inches down and another 6 expected with 40 mph winds just to keep it interesting. I feel cheated. I like snow. Its fun to drive in. Yes I am a little demented. OK rant over, I'll let everyone else get back to digging out.

I would not call it special so much as lucky to have an impenetrable immune system. Good luck with your interview.

WHY... do we do this to ourselves? Such pretty snow falling down now.........

And it was 5 miles, uphill both ways with no cell phone. But then it was perfectly acceptable to bring the .22 rifle to school to get dinner on the way home. They are screaming bloody murder here for a lousy foot of snow. I think there nuts. I have a 20+ mile commute each way to work and have yet tot miss a day of work for any reason. Whats a snow day?

Back in my younger days I used to deliver pizza. The driver is typically paid very near minimum wage and relies on tips for his real income. That $3.50 goes to the pizza shop owner to cover his expenses of gas, insurance, vehicle costs, wages, etc. Even $2 is usually cheap. Think of it it terms of going to a restaurant, Most people tip 20% to someone that only has to take the order and then carry the food from the kitchen to your table. A waitress will spend maybe 5-6 minutes working for that tip where the driver has to drive from the store to your house and back to the store, seldom able to serve more than one or two customers at a time. Because I know how it works from the inside I usually tip a food delivery person 20-30%, but never less than $5, unless the driver was really late or drove up on the lawn or something. OK good Samaritan rant over.

I no longer what all works with what, but one other thing to look out for is that in an engine swap the state may get involved, In WI it is illegal to change to an engine other than what the vehicle came from the factory with. As far as a 305 vs a 350. I have a GMC K1500, 4x4, ext cab, 8' box with a 350, my buddy has the identical year make model and options except that he has the short box and the 305. I get better gas mileage than him, and can still blow him away in a race even with the extra weight that I am hauling. If you have the 350 now, stick with it, if you have the 305 now, you will need to do all of the research mentioned in the posts above to see if it is worth the extra effort and cost to upgrade.

Last night we got a light dusting of snow, 2-4 inches. Tomorrow all they will say is at LEAST 8 inches or MORE with 30+ wind for that nice snow sculpting called drifts, and then temps drop down into the single digits F, just to make sure that it aint goin anywhere fast. Gotta love winter in the north
-
MMMmmmmmmm....... I like blizzards. We have a nice blizzard coming tomorrow, 8-14 inches with 30+ wind. Oh you mean the DQ Blizzard......... I like those too, while watching the other kind.

I wish I had a garage. My scoot has to live in an 8 X 10 steel garden shed with all of the garden tools. That is also where I get to work on it. Back when I was into stock car racing and rented a garage, I heated it with a 250,000btu kero torpedo heater, the heater did not have to run very long to heat the 24 x 24 garage up. I had it rigged with a thermostat and kept the overhead door propped open with a chunk of 2x4 for ventilation. You are right though that it gets really nasty when solvents go thru the burner. I now have a tiny 30,000btu propane heater that I use to keep me warm outdoors. It did a good job of warming up my buddies garage when we had to thaw out some deer before we could butcher them.

MegaMax Gel Battery
Flyinfool replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The site has a separate listing for the 1200 and the 1300 but if you click on the link to the recommended battery they both recommend the same battery. So both you and the site are correct
