HH brake pads on First Gen
Flyinfool replied to Prairiehammer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have had the HH pads on my 88 for a while now. Most of my riding is in city traffic commuting to work, so the brakes get a workout. I have about 12K miles on them and there is no appreciable visible wear of the rotors. The stopping power over the OEM pads is night and day and worth the cost down the road. I have had to make several panic stops over the years, and don't think I would have made the stops in time with the OEM pads. EBC does make new rotors to fit the 1st gens. I've been thinking of picking up a set one by one and put them up on the shelf, just to have for someday. -
Mercury
Flyinfool replied to stuckonstupid's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For what it is gonna cost you to replace the mercury you could just buy a new Morgan carb tune and never have to worry about spills or a liquid getting sucked into the engine ever again. -
If the ran like that I bet they would sell better.

OR since she was born raised and always lived in the USA but is of Mexican decent, maybe he spoke to her in Spanish and she didn't understand him. It will be interesting to know the rest of the facts as they come out. I like to think I know how I would react with my cage in a similar circumstance.

They are simply hacking anything they can get into. As their skill grows they will get into more and more secure systems, till they finally make it into something that can do some real damage.

Congrats Good to hear all are doing well

That ain't it at all. Seal it up in a bag of uncooked rice for a month.

The springs do not die from mileage alone, they also die of old age. Those springs have been holding the weight of the bike up for 25 years now. Whether it was ridden or not the springs are still working to hold up the weight.

Yes I think you are right. The solid form of H2O is not usually the issue by its self, it is the crystallized form that can then turn into the solid form that is the real issue. There have been reports of crystallized oxidane coatings in Wisconsin already this fall. If this trend continues I think the leak may stop soon. A liberal application of crystallized dihydrogen monoxide may also stop the leak.

Two different animals here. Some of the trailers do not have a swivel on the single wheel. Those are the ones that require a U-joint in the hitch so that they can move up and down and turn. If you have a swivel wheel, a U-joint would be a bad thing, it would allow the trailer to swing all over the place and try to pass you up when you hit the brakes or even just swing out till it hits some part of the bike to stop it. With a trailer that has a swivel wheel you still do need the ability to move up and down only to allow for uneven surfaces like entering the DQ driveway. OK that is the mechanics part of what you need to even try it. I am not sure how the swivel wheel will handle behind a bike that will be leaning in the corners. Because as the swivel lets the wheel turn it is also moving it off center which will cause a weight imbalance toward the outside of the turn that will be trying to stand the bike back up. I'm just not sure how that part will work out.

I just can't figure this one out. My bike is going thru gas like crazy. There are no puddles or even spots on the ground. There is no gas in the oil. There are no wet spots on anything. I live 20.2 miles from where I work. I had to stop for gas twice on the way home yesterday. Temps were in the 60s with the sun shining. I get off work at 4:30pm. It was almost 11:00pm when I finally made it home. The leaves are sure getting pretty this time of year. I just can't figure out where all the gas went.......

head light goes out and comes back on
Flyinfool replied to rogerhessler's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
That is one of the differences between an HID and the OEM bulb. With a bad connnection the voltage to the bulb will drop, the OEM bulb will just get dim but the electronics of the HID will see it as a command to shut off. I would agree with those above, you have a bad connection somewhere. It could be a ground, the headlight connector (or any connector in the headlight system), or even a dirty Hi-Lo beam switch. I would start with the easy stuff first, like the Hi-Lo switch. Spray it good with contact cleaner and see if that helps. If not then we will have to talk you through the whole process of checking each wire one by one. -
New noise to diagnose
Flyinfool replied to rstacy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had all of the sounds you described, a new set of E3 tires made them all go away. But then I knew my tires needed replacing. front was showing weather cracking and was worn to almost the wear bars and the rear was 8 years old. So I did tires first and checked all of the bearings while it was apart. Bearings were all good. -
This thread should get you all the info you need. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72663 I sure wish I could make it this year (prior obligations), but it is on my list for next year.

It is a surface grinder. It is used for grinding metal to a very smooth, flat surface, with great accuracy for the final thickness dimension. I guess I should have said that in the beginning. Not everyone knows their way around a machine shop. That is why I am a lousy teacher, I always ass-u-me stuff.

Its getting there. I have it all disassembled and loaded on carts and dollies ready for the move. Now I just need to finish getting the house ready to accept it. My best guesses are the base is 450 lbs, the post on the hand truck is 300 lbs. the engine hoist is 298lbs per the catalog. Should all slide down into the basement with no problems. Weather permitting the plan is to rent a trailer, and make the move this coming weekend. For anyone that shows up to help, the Ice cream and Pizza are on me. Once I get it in the basement, then I get to clean everything (it is SERIOUSLY grungy on the inside and the mechanics), paint what needs protection, grease or oil everything that needs it, and put it back together, then run some 3ph 220 power to it and hope the motor runs. If all goes well there should be sparks flying in about a month.
