Congrats on the new bike. Having just switched to a wing I can't down you for going to a Vision. To each his own!

I took it for a short ride Sunday so this is a short term report. Pros: ABS, Navigation, Airbag, Heated seats and grips, lots of lights, power to spare, unreal torque, great handling. The seating position was ok for me. If you look closely at the pic you will see the bike already has the rider floorboards, heel and toe shifter and highway pegs. Instant throttle response. The bike is so quiet and smooth it almost feels like an electric motor. This could be a con for some folks since you don't get a lot of internal combustion feedback. I still have my 97 RSTC with the 4x4 Jardine Rumblers for when I want to bop around and make some noise. Cons: Haven't found any yet but if I find any in the long term, I'll let yall know.

I've replaced the 07 RSV I wrecked a month ago. ABS was a must this time around since wrecking in the rain which meant another RSV was out of the question. Maybe in the future Yammie will finally update the Venture and I will be back on one but for now this bike will have to do. It's a 2006. I do still have my '97 RSTC so I'm not completely out of Royal Stars. Here is a pic I stole from the previous owner.-Jack http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/bigjack1/wing/wing.jpg

In 1978 my friend was killed on his motorcycle after a day of drinking. It was his 21st birthday.

D404's are not enough tire for the RSV. Don't worry, they won't last long. Then you can put on some Avons and you'll have a whole new bike! -
Ever had the cars in front of you wreck on a wet interstate? I have. My bike was totaled but I walked away. Maybe your skills are better than mine. Good luck to you if it ever happens.

After I wrecked my RSV on a rain slick hwy 3 weeks ago, my next bike will have ABS. IMO Yamaha has been negligent in not updating the RSV. Every other large touring bike has available ABS. It can be added without a major redesign as HD has done.

Just re read the post and saw that it wasn't you but your friend. Still glad it wasn't worse!

As one who is still sore from a wreck over 2 weeks ago, I feel for ya! Glad it wasn't worse.

Yamaha is really in a no win situation. They will not take much market share away from HD if the go the cuiser style route. HD has a lot of brand loyalty regardless of what you think of their bikes. If they go the Goldwing style route, again GW riders are fanatically loyal. They failed with the first Gen against the GW with an arguably better bike. I wouldn't be surprised given the market conditions to see Yammie completely abandon the Luxury Touring segment.

I was shocked to find out my wife wanted to learn how to ride. I never imagined she would. We got her a Honda Rebel to learn on. She's doing pretty good but coming along slowly. Her goal is to move up to our 97 RSTC. Right now she can't even get it off the sidestand. It's a heavy bike.

Welome Midnight! I saw your post on the STAR forum. I was a VP of a chapter and my wife and I left a few months ago over some issues we had locally. I will let my membership expire next month. Most people don't realize, STAR is a for profit orginization. A few people are living very well from the yearly dues and sales of patches and other items. It's also my understanding that the free 1 yr membership that goes along with the purchase of a new STAR motorcycle is paid by Yamaha to Star Touring and Riding. What a racket! Try finding out where the money goes. Good luck! Ask questions about the money on the forum and find youself locked out in a heartbeat! There are great people in VentureRiders plus there are no membership requirements,no officers, no mandatory meetings, no dress codes and for the most part NO EGOS that need to be stroked. What we do is RIDE and EAT!

My wife wanted me to take her up to the Dragon yesterday but she didn't mention it till about 2 o'clock and it's a 2hr ride up there. I wasn't really in the mood to ride home in the dark on mt roads. Maybe we can meet up there sometime.

There may be an FJR in my future.

I was running Avon Venoms. The RSV is well known for locking up the rear brake. On dry pavement you can get away with it to a point. In the rain at hiway speed not so much! ABS is available on many bikes nowadays. To me that is one of the great shortcomings of not updating these bikes over the years.

Some of you are aware I had a little accident on the RSV last friday afternoon. The shop called and the repair bill came to $20,522.61 before even checking the frame. Needless to say it's totaled. I really loved that bike and my wife and I had a lot of great times in the 2yrs and 34K miles we got to put on her. On the other hand, It is only plastic and metal and I walked away. Kind of have mixed feelings right now. I'll be looking for a new bike in the near future but I doubt it will be an RSV. The next bike I buy will have ABS since I'm pretty sure the wreck I had could have been avoided if I'd had it.
