Saving my pennies. Even though KIC offered to help me tune my carbs....I sure would like one of these anyway. Want to meet KIC...so maybe a carb tune day in Tucson is coming up as the weather warms....

My 89 has a noticeable whine, 39K miles, and I'm using 20-50wt Yamalube cause I live and ride in the desert. Before I replaced the pinion gear which was broken, I could only hear that whine! I believe it has something to do with gear shape. Are these trannies using straight cut gears?

So...after reading all the posts I could find regarding issues with installing speedbleeders, I was wondering if I added a teeny bit of pressure to the brake pedal and handle when I go to remove the OEM bleeders and install speedbleeders...if that would keep air out of the system??? It's a thought.....valid? david

Windshield

I asked Clearview for a quote on a 1st gen shield...they never got back to me. I like their shields and have had one on my last two scoots. Wondering what their problem is??? -
Where are you downloading Avast from? Some third party companies add advertising to the download. Avast Free does have some pop-ups, but they are minimal. If you go with the paid versions, they aren't there...Avast uses the pop-ups to promote their products, never a third party product. I'm unclear what kind of pop-ups you are having. They could also be from your browser as Cowpuc mentions.... Regardless, I'll launch into an explanation anyway.... Third party ads...are in your system due to a download that you allowed at some point. It's a form of a benign virus....ie...non-destructive. Can also include a keylogger and a small backdoor program that doesn't get removed by some virus protection programs. The keylogger sends info about your on-line habits and they tailor the ads to your tastes (they think). The backdoor calls home to mama when you delete or uninstall it's main program and when you sign back on the internet, it then downloads the same little bad program again into your system. Back where you started from... Multiple ways to get rid of them if they are third party and not Avast. You should only download Avast from their website. Malwarebytes is very good for most malware, CCleaner (crap cleaner is a great free cleaner for getting rid of crap. Download it only from CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download. Search around the site for the free version or google search and only click on the link from the Avast web site... +++++++++++ The concept here is to run the Malware program in safe mode. Reboot in safe mode. Run avast in safe mode. Then reboot in normal mode and see if everything is gone. If not, write down the ads and Google them. If they are virus/malware ads...they will be listed as such with the way to remove them. Follow that advice...but do NOT buy any product to do so!!! That is more of the same...you will get re-infected. In some cases, you may want to tell Avast to run prior to next bootup...ie...next time you turn computer on. This will scan the drives BEFORE any rootkit or malware can run....hopefully finding the baddie and getting rid of it. In almost every case, I've been able to find and remove various root kit virus's and malware using Google search and then doing the manual way of deleting the programs and the registry links. Do save a backup of your registry. and do a restore of operating system as well. Yes, it's a pain...but can be done with limited experience and computer knowledge. If you don't feel comfortable, take your machine to a small local store with a young kid working there...he can run a thorough test using his programs to root out the issues. I did that as well...cost me $75 and worked great when I couldn't handle it. Young geeks love this sort of challenge! Hope this helps....OH...send a note to Avast letting them know your problem as well. They will take a while to respond in some cases as you are using the "free" version. But they "may" give you some help. david

46 years ago this past October, I entered the hallowed halls of Lackland AFB for basic training! I was a few months ahead of you... Front tire on 1st gen E3 or...?
videoarizona replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I went with the Shinko 230 Tourmasters...front and rear. I know the rear will wear out faster than a Dunlop...but I like the handling and ride. Add the price differential and knowing when the rear tire goes, I can lube and check out the rear end and brakes...I'm OK with Shinko! -

Lenny, Short answer: The separate antennas are because each antenna is optimize for the particular frequencies they are meant to use. AM/FM radio freq's are way different than CB frequencies. The Venture Royale gets away with one antenna by using a match box that matches the different frequency signals to their respective transmiters/receivers and combines them to one antenna. It's a compromise that works fairly well if the antenna, wire and coil is in good shape.

Rear End Questions:
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Test Ride results for today: Bike ran great. Smooth with little buffeting. Loose muffler must have been the culprit....which I find hard to believe...but ran good for over 50 miles. Rear disc got hot to touch.....but that was it. After long 75mph run, I pulled into a friend's house, we threw bike up on center stand...and I could still spin rear wheel with fingers. So...yea I still have brake dragging but I'm not going to worry about it. Will clean up the rear brake system at some point soon. MPG's are down...probably brake drag. two bars left on gauge with 100 miles on clock. Usually got more. Put some more miles on new tires and brakes and see where the mpg's are at that point. Good run today...sorry no pictures. No one to take pics of me zooming by! -
Oil leak and smoking???
videoarizona replied to Wesley G's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've been running 20/50 on my VStar 950T since day 1. When I got the 89 VR, I changed oil to that as well. Here in Arizona we do have heat...so I felt a little extra viscosity insurance wouldn't hurt. I like the way both bikes shift and run. I run dino oil...Yamalube 20w50 in both scoots. -
Rear End Questions:
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Update: Research on old posts found note about the packing on the exhaust comes loose on right side and get's lost during R&R. Sure enough...nothing there on right side muffler so clamp doesn't have enough "material" to clamp the muffler tight to exhaust pipe. Bought some silver repair tape, cut and wrapped. Muffler back on a tight. So now everything is tight. "Sashaying" could have been muffler moving around during buffeting. Maybe....Doesn't matter, found muffler issue and fixed it. Still concerned about possible brake drag on rear...(after new pads)...but will test ride again today. If still getting rear rotor hot, I'll go ahead and drain & clean the rear system as pinhole relief might be plugged. Need to do anyway at some point, as it's about the one system left I haven't gone over since I bought bike. Can't hurt. I'm enjoying working on "The Scoot". Fun to get greased again...! -
Ordered my two....thanks, Don

I never have since I got the bike last Spring. I am concerned that the warning light didn't come on until the cells were exposed. guess that's Yamaha's way....And me being an idiot trusting the warning light! david
