RSTD Flanders How To w/new stock end weight idea
TheKid replied to usnmustang's topic in Suspension, Tires, Handlebars, Etc.
Sylvester did you have to change the hoses and cables? -
Do any of your that have replaced your rstd bars with the flanders bars still have the stock ones. I would be interested in them. According to the meausrements of the rstd and the rsv, they are 2" taller and have about 2.5" more pullback from the rsv. Please reach out to me. Robert "theKid"

I don't know about the taller shield but i do know they are working on the wider shield. If they did do a taller shield then the bottom half would be taller and the top so that when in shorter position they fit together well. You could reach out to them about that option.

I hear ya tx2sturgis. I do know I really like mine and Joe "Moose" likes his too. I have in the past done the winter and summer shield. Like someone mentioned when in the summer my short shield is great in the city and on back roads but when riding the highway the wind beats me. With this one i can switch it from short to tall, if raining or on slab vs if nice weather n on back roads. There is now flex when in the tall position. I know that was a concern of mine when first looking at the shield but after riding with it there isnt any.

I am the guilty party that recommended that Spencer gets a hold of your FreeBird. I meet these guys down in Myrtle Beach during the rally. I was looking at their shield and really liked it. They just had one shield with them for the venture because it was just finished. Another member here Joe spoke up faster than I did and got the “PROTOTYPE”. He rode all weekend with it and really like it. I went back at the end of the rally and spoke with them more and made some suggestions. I went ahead and purchased a shield and have been riding with it for like 1500 miles. It is really great to be able to raise and lower the shield. Specially when it is raining the taller shield is nice and pushes the rain over. It is also nice at highway speeds to give a litter more protection. It is real nice to lower the shield when on back roads and in twisties to let the wind hit your face. The shield is really sturdy and does not flex like the stock or show chrome. I made the comment and suggestion to them that they make a wider shield more like the show chrome and they agreed. They are working on the shield now I believe. The shield looks real nice on the bike. I will take some pictures tonight and post for viewing. If you are wanting to find the shield on the site go to the star tab and it is there. My buddies bike is also pictured on the site from the MB rally. It is up to everyone else but I have spoke with many different venture riders around here and they def like the concept. The short shield is tented and you look over it completely. The taller half if clear and I still look over it but can look through it if I slouch down. The shield is about one inch shorter than the show chorme shield. The shield is made out of the same stuff air craft shields are made out of and is thicker than the stock one. You can use polish on the shield without worrying about the shield turning yellow or building a film on it. I have to say I REALLY like the shield and will not switch again. It is much nicer knowing that I don’t have to change shields in the summer and winter anymore. I have been in contact with them since purchase about the wider shield and they said they are going to be working on that and I can trade with them once they finish the new product. Spence is a great guy to work with.

I agree I have the risers and a little extra play. I have been riding with them for many miles. I also dont like the bars making contact with the plastic ignation cover either. I have been looking at doing a bar swap as well. I am wondering if any RSTD owners have changed their bars out and still have the stock bars and would like to get rid of them. I have a feeling I will need to change the cables and hoses but that will come after I find the right bars. I am thinking RSTD over Flanders for the extra height and the pull back. Thanks Robert "TheKid" 'BlkLbl' Venture

I dont have the RSTD but I do have some upgrade ideas for ya. Rear Light going with Custom Dynamics LED board for the main light WAY brighter and you could also go with RUN?TURN?Brake for the turn signals also. As for the seat I have met and talked with the owner of ultimate seats and he is a really nice guy. My father has one of his seats on his wing and loves it. Of course they dont make one for the venture so i have a corbin and love it. Everyone I know that has an ultimate loves them. Good luck and yes watch out on the dragon. I was there this past saturday in the ran and guys still wanted to take it like a race track. Ride Safe Robert "TheKid"

I am also in charlotte and heading up to Johnson City tomorrow of the SCRC TN Ridge runner. If you find a part located here I can also run it up to you. I agree I dont know if it is the battery. Have you checked to make sure your ground is good on the bike frame? also make sure the terminals are good n tight. Good luck keep us all posted. Robert "TheKid" 07 blklbl jack venture

Looks like a great road to ride and I will have to make it up there in a day ride from charlotte. I agree with you, I am not a fan of the name either. Ride Safe and enjoy the great roads we have across the country. TheKid

Well Alan is in for a treat at Jack Daniels. I am a Tennesse Squire and I still enjoy it every time I go. The roads there are good too. Check out 129 going into Petersburg TN, head south out of town on 50 and turn right onto 129 and just follow. Good twisties and curvers. Y'all enjoy your visit.

Don't know what part of TN you all are going to but if you make it to the south middle below Nashville, Jack Daniels is in Lynchburg. Nice little town and true fact a dry county. Visit Miss Mary Bobo for lunch a great place to eat. You both have a great time visiting the US and seeing many things that most of us americans have not even seen, LOL. Robert 'TheKid'

ok everyone that may want one. I just read on a HD forum and found this. Coupon Code for the lift: $279.99 18888719 good till 4/28/11 It does work online I have tried it. The guy also mentioned that if you go online and go all the way to the page where you enter the code and print that out and carry it into the store that they should honor the coupon code. Has anyone figured out if this lift will work for the GEN 2 RSV?

I purchased a HID kit (Plug-n-play) other than power wire to control the HI_beam HID. I have not had an issue of the light not coming back on after starting the bike. I also installed the same kit other than it is the low HID only kit and he has not had any issues either with this. The good thing is the company we purchased from has a LIFE TIME WARRANTY. We got ours down at the IMS in Greenville. The company is http://euroeffects.net/ They are down in Daytona right now on beach street in that park area across the road from the harley dealer.

I am really sorry to read about this so called "winter". I don’t care for the cold but then I don’t care for the extreme hot either. I am suppose to leave out Thursday morning from Charlotte and meet up with DaMoose outside of Columbia SC. Right now it looks like I might be wearing rain gear with warm layers underneath. If and when you do decide to leave be safe and ride cautiously. I have heard of lots of bikes on the road going down and also the fact of cops know about this event and always post more patrol officers. Ride safe and enjoy.

IF ONLY .... Of course I have the Yama buckets that have a sealed beam lamp no bulb, boo. That is why I was thinking of replacing them with harley buckets bc I think they use the bulb style either h3 or h7. But still I am looking at price as well. the headlight was not cheap by no means.
-
I talked to the ppl i got the HID from and they said they could get sealed beam HID for the passing lights but they were going to crazy high price. I looked at and read about the LED but so far not anything real good out there and the ones that I would feel comfortable with are super pricey. I thought about getting some used harley buckets the ones that use the bulbs and switch to them and try to find a WHITE bulb. Oh well I will sit back and wait the HID is PLENTY of like i think for now.

I was reading it all over the web. It was posted on FaceBook by USRiderNews. http://usridernews.com/2011/03/03/gsp-outlines-motorcycle-only-checkpoint-strategy/

Ok I had a filling it was going to be something about mass ordering. It is hard to get custome one off stuff done without it costing an arm and a leg. I will keep my eyes open just in case the interest spikes oneday. Thanks Freebird.

While down at the International Motorcycle Show with y'all .... DaMoose (Joe) bought an HID kit for his headlight. We went back to his place only a few min away from the center and I installed it WOW BRIGHT. He really liked it and I did also. The only thing is now the passing lights look YELLOW/AMBER. I like the contrast but they totally do not add anything to the lighting now. We went back to the show and I also bought an HID kit but I got the Bi-HID which has both hi-low HID, his only had low HID regular HIGH. There is much more wiring involved with the Bi kit I will say though. I really like the extra bright white light. Now the question..is there a sealed beam lamp that can replace the OEM to make them look WHITE. Either change them to HID or LED or even maybe change the housing so that it is a BULB type so I can put super white bulbs in them. Thanks for the helps y'all. Oh n I HIGHLY recommend the HID for visibility at night and day.
