  1. Rode my bike to the stealer today for some repairs and as I pulled up to the service entrance another man was going to his truck with his parts we exchanged a nod and I parked my bike and got off. Just as I was removing my "safety gear" a young man came out of the back of the shop on a Silver Wing ( it was a customers skoot he worked for the dealer ) anyway about the time the gentleman with the parts started backing out the young man gassed on the little skooter about 30' from where the little pickup was backing up hidden from view (almost certain his feet were dangling) the pickup appeared and the little show boat panicked grab the front brake on wet concrete and he went rolling right beside my bike. Found out the little Wing had just finished being repaired from a previous accident and this was the fourth incident with this young dude this week. General Mgr. came out to access the new damage so I explained to him what happened and that guy better not be on my bike. Don't think he will be there when I go back
  2. THANK YOU! ... for all your efforts to keep the peace on this site ... you're doing a GREAT job! I say this as, since getting my Wing, I have been spending a fair amount of time on a "wing forum" (not mentioning which one) ... and I just can't believe all the flaming and bikkering going on there ... it's crazy ... there's at least 3 guys who are constantly at each other's throats ... kinda hilarious to read their posts as they "battle it out" LOL but it sure is nice to not see that here!
  3. Cruise Pump I have a car cruise on my VTX and I'm looking for a vacuum pump. Is the Yamaha cruise pump an actual pump. In other words can I hot wire it and use it as a pump? I bought a Gold Wing thingy I thought was a pump and it was just a vacuum check valve. Thanks for any help. Jeff
  4. Hi all I rode a 1800 wing to Big Toms rally last weekend. What a nice ride. I see there is a 1990 1500 wing localy with about 30000 miles on it. Just woundering anything I should look for and is the power from a 1800 to a 1500 a lot? Also is the ride about the same as far as leg room and comfort? Thanks Bull463
  5. Any one from Anaheim, Fullerton, Brea, Yorba Linda, or Placentia, California area remember Fairway Yamaha? Bought my '84 Venture Royale there, then they went out of business around '86 or '87. If I remember correctly, I paid $6,800 for it. Rode it until 2004. I still have the license plate bracket, but it doesn't look right on my Wing. Just went through a bunch of stuff looking for a souvenier shirt from the Barstow to Vegas run Thanksgiving weekend 1985. Could not find it, guess it must have shrunk to the point it's too small. I do have the patch and pin from the ride. Had a buddy from Ohio come out on a '85 Gold Wing and we did that run together. Of course he was upset that I could out-quick, out-speed, out-handle him, and get about 2 miles per gallon better mileage. Yes, those were the days, my friends. My buddy died last summer, had not seen him or communicated for years. Lost opportunities. Only motorcycling can invoke this kind of memory and now cause one to reflect and vow to try to make the most out of the days we have yet remaining. Mel
  6. Last year was my 1st ride in 27 years and it has taken a full year for my wife to get on board so its 28 years for her. Our previous bike was an 80 Goldwing. She said that on the Wing she recalls sitting a bit higher and could somewhat look over my helmet to see up ahead. On the 89 VR she has no forward vision at all. Right smack in the back of my helmet. She does not like the driver back rest on the VR, that I really like. She feels the Wing shifted and the engine is smoother. She probably wouldn't be interested in a long days ride. I can remove the driver back rest. Can't do anything about the shifting and smoothness. Her biggest gripe is that she can't see forward causing her some slight motion dizzyness always seeing things from the side and then her necks gets tired looking sideways Left and right also. Any serious suggestions as to raising the rear seat height?
  7. when I had my wing I could listen to the radio on speakers and cb on headsets. It looks like this can't be done on the venture. it's either speakers all the way or headsets. I like my radio on speakers and cb thru headsets. am I missing something or is this just the way it is. thanks
  8. A friend took these pics and posted them on FB. He took them at our local Wally World. I wish I had actually been there to see it. Don't yet know where the guy is from.
  9. I have a set of wing deflectors that came with this bike and have never seen before and was wondering if anybody has seen them on a 84 Venture Royale and where do they mount. Any help would be appreciated on this. Thanks in advance. Al
  10. Just came home with a 2011 Blue RSV. Still trying to get used to everything. It is not as friendly as my wing was but will be a great ride. I am just having the riding lights added for now. What do most people do to light up that back end of the bike? My wing was loaded with lights on the back.
  11. Changed the oil on my new to me 08 Wing @ just over 2000 on the OD. What a PIA, having to remove the lower front fairing just to change the oil and is it tight down there. I'll still take the Wing over the RSV though, just for the more balanced feel. I'll be sending my seat to Rick to get the Butt Butler over this next winter I feel like I'm sliding forward or my pants are sliding backward, needs a little bit of a bucket carved out of it. There have been a couple of good reviews here and on one of the GW sites. I was pleased with the work he did on my RSV seat, just wish I was closer to TX. Just a little info and opinion. Jim
  12. Can't think of a caption for these two pics.... who is that guy on the back of the Gold Wing?
  13. Not sure if this is the place to post this but what the hell! My brothers friend is ready to put his wing on the market and has said he will sell it to me for $8000 It is a GL1500 1998 with 10,000 miles. It has been garage kept and is immaculate. Not a lot of upgrades but it has a backrest and chrome brake covers etc. Is this a decent price in anyones opinion. I have been looking for a while, just not real hard. It is fuel injected and has new tires. I can try and post some pictures.
  14. this year they are having wing ding in knowville,tn july 6-9 . wondering how many of you are going to check it out,i'm trying to go fri and sat but for sure sat. http://www.wing-ding.org/vendors.html
  15. So we've all (well, many of us) have been whining about Yamaha not upgrading the RSV since 1999. Question that comes to my mind is .... has the Wing really changed much since it's current design came out in 2001? .... not really. So if Honda isn't changing, why should Yamaha? Having said that, now that the 2012 Wing is out, I bet there's something really good in store for us in a new, redesigned Venture, probably to be introduced next year.
  16. OK yesterday AM I get up at 0330 and head to Houston for a 3-4 hour supposedly job doing some Modifications on the Wing/\..It turned out to last all day and didnt leave Houston for Home till nearly 8PM last night arriving home around midnight. Here Is a list of what I did. 1. Progressive front springs 2. "All Balls" Head Bearings.(Didnt need YET but most Gold Wings will need to upgrade due to a front end wobble 3. Centramatic wheel balancers, front 2 and rear 4. CHROME WHEELS (Eye Candy) 5. Handlebar risers OK,here is the report: The front end and feel is AWESOME. I was skeptical about doing the Centramatics but figured since I rode one with them and it seemed to make the older Wing ride better than mine Why Not? My result..They are a FANTASTIC product and you cannot see them when installed unless you are really looking hard for them. It almost feels like it makes the bike even more stable and yes the balancing is great to. I keep wondering if it makes more of a "GYRO" effect"? Im telling you it almost feels as if the bike would stay up by itself when you stop .(I dont know how else to explain it.) The handlebar risers are fantastic, they cost me $25.00 but it raised the bars at the end about 1 1/2 inches and seems to have pulled back about 1/2 ,3/4 of an inch. I can honestly say that I now have the most comfortable bike Ive ever ridden because of this Mod. The "Chrome Wheels"..whast else can I say..when I turn on the "Ring Of Fire"and it shines against the chrome wheels man is it a showstopper. I had people in every town pulling up beside me giving me a "Thumbs Up". All in al other than the Chrome wheels it was $500.00 .For those interested the Chrome Wheels was $700.00 installed with new bearings seals everything ready to bolt on and yes he will ship them this way so all you have to do is order wheels, put them on and send your old wheels back..IF you dont wanna go to Houston to have it done for free!
  17. Since Eck asked, I thought I would post my initial observations on my new Goldwing compared to the RSV. With the crappy weather we've had this week I've only been able to put about 180 miles on it. First, these bikes are different with good and bad attributes for each. The Wing is an easier bike to ride. With the greater engine torque starts are effortless and you don't have to shift as frequently. I rarely let the RSV get below 2500 RPMs and the Wing rarely gets over 2500. The Wing has incredible acceleration and I've been good during the break-in period. The Wing feels lighter, more nimble, and is easier to get off the side stand. Slow speed handling is better. The RSV has a better ride. It is smoother going over bridge transitions and road defects. The wing translates a lot of these bumps and vibrations through the handlebars. The RSV has better wind protection. I get significant head buffeting on the wing and that is a dissapointment. I've got to work on that. The brakes on the Wing are better. They are linked so you get some rear brake with the front and some front with the rear. The riding position is more relaxed on the RSV, of course we all knew that. I do prefer the floor boards and heel/toe shifter. For height challenged individuals like myself, the Wing sits a little lower and I can get my feet planted better for parking lot manuevers. The dash layout and instrumentation on the Wing is better and the audio controls are more intuitive. The Wing is quieter with less mechanical noise between your legs. I think the RSV is easier to work on. Everything is covered on the Wing. I'm sure I'll learn how to get under the covers. Probably this weekend when I install my GPS and a 12V outlet (which should have been standard on the bike). As I stated earlier, these bikes are different. I wish I could combine the features of both and create the perfect bike. The choice of one over the other is a series of compromises. On the Wing I compromised leg comfort. Your mileage may vary. Dennis
  18. Hi, I don't get here much since my 84 venture got hit by a deer last May, But I am looking a an 86 venture and an 87 venture Royale and a 86 Goldwing GL1200. It seams everyone wants a goldwing but what are the downsides between the venture and wing? I liked the way I sat lower on the venture but how does the wing sit, I was told higher and I am only 5'8" so the lower the better. The prices are the same. equipment is the same. Is it hard to find venture parts? Wings have the timing belt issue and the stator. Ventures have the 2nd gear problem. Any opinions to sway me one way or another? Eddy
  19. OK, I did it, I jumped ship to the Honda camp. Yesterday I picked up a new 2010 GL1800 and I did so with reservations. I still feel the Venture provides a more comfortable riding position. While I am not as comfortable on the Wing I've ridden about 50 miles on a friends bike and with a few modifications I think I can make it work. Now, why did I make the switch now? First, we've got a 6000 mile trip planned for this summer and my wife suggested that we take a new bike. Don't you just love a wife like that. The only bikes I considered were a new Venture, a Victory Vision, and the Wing. As good as the Venture is I just couldn't bring myself to buy another Venture with the dated design. I found the Vision very comfortable and gave it serious consideration but my wife wasn't comfortable on it. So that wouldn't do. And that left me with the Wing. If anyone cares to know, I got the Wing with CB, rear spoiler with brake light, and fog lights out the door and on the road for $20,560. If someone would have given me any real hope that there would be an updated 2012 Venture I would have probably waited. However, no one could. So I found a nice deal on a new 2010 base GL1800 so I took the leap. If I can't make it work and/or a new Venture arrives in 2012 you may find a slightly used Wing on the market next year. My wife asked me last night how I was going to get along without the cassette deck. Hope you guys will still let me hang around. Dennis
  20. Here some new video of the 2012 wing. http://hondanews.com/videos/1534214a-7211-4870-b33e-34e85de55375
  21. Well, Honda's announced the '12 Wing. Looks like same powertrain with some mod's to the bodywork, specifically the side cases. I like the older model better, but that's just my 2cents.... Glad I bought my '10. The 12 doesn't appear to be any quantum leap forward.....
  22. I want to install a wing on my trunk. Does any one know where I can get one. I'm looking for one that has the brake light in it. I need it for a 2nd gen. Thanks, Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  23. Hey, I got a question I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. My 1998 Gold Wing 1500 has an annoying electrical tendency. The last two time I went for a ride it all was right with the world then suddenly it acted like the battery was dead. The motor lost all power and I coasted to the shoulder and stopped. There wasn't enough juice in the battery to crank the engine. Karl, ic23b, came by with his van and jumper cables. We had to jump it 3 times to make it 6 miles home. All my gauges were wacko, with either no readouts or ridiculous readouts. I cleaned the battery terminals and cables and put the battery on the charger BUT the charger said it was ALREADY fully charged !!?? A couple days later it happened again and I ended up walking home to get the car and trailer. When I got back to the bike it cranked over just like 'downtown' and fired right up. Is there a relay or solenoid in the main circuit that could fail and interrupt the current flow? Any ideas?? Quirk
  24. First, please forgive my PRIMITIVE art. I am still thinking on the fairing broken tab fix thing... Would this type of set up be possible. A strong brace with three holes, one attached to the bottom speaker bolt, the top one attached to the fairing METAL STRIP and then a second brace that a has a wing (T shaped) that fits FLAT against the fairing and held in place with JB Weld (the wing would give more surface area for the glue to hold). Once the glue has cured, this brace would then be attached to the first brace. This setup might provide a LOT of stability for the METAL STRIP and windshield. The braces would have to cut precisely (so as to not pull to much against the fairing), and also would involve some bending. Here is a VERY bad drawing and the 2nd brace does not show the WING I think would be best for securing it to the fairing. I see no reason to have it replaced if it just gonna break again. I would rather fix it for good. Comments, suggestions and SOME LAUGHTER is appreciated. Wally
  25. http://rwc10.tripod.com/100_silver_r.gif could we add this to the smileys PLEASE??? we do need a titanium wing don't we? thanks dray
